The battle over unions collecting money from non-members moved from the Supreme Court to the court of public employees' opinion.
On the same day the court announced its ruling in the Janus case barring public-sector unions from automatically collecting fees from government workers who choose not to join the union, libertarian groups were outside government buildings passing out literature.

Nima Abdirahman learns to ride a bike while developing her social consciousness!
In Minnesota (of course, where else!), a non-profit organization is teaching refugees to ride bicycles.
Sounds like a nice thing to do, until you read the description of ‘Cycles for Change’ on their website. (Emphasis is mine)
cycles for change logo
Cycles for Change is a non-profit organization working at the intersection of social justice and the bicycle movement.
We are grounded in the values of equity, justice, inclusion and self-empowerment.
We believe it is essential to establish gender equity and safe(r) spaces for underrepresented and marginalized people on bikes. Cycles for Change centers femme, trans, women, and gender non-conforming peoples; and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color; and youth within our work.
Our goal is to create platforms that authentically cultivate leadership development and social consciousness through bicycles and community involvement. Cycles for Change implements a variety of programs to accomplish our goal. Face-to-face connection and creating a welcoming environment are central to all of our programs.
Your money!
And, before I give you a few snips from a story at the MinnPost, I checked a recent ‘Cycles for Change’ Form 990 and found that they received $168,383 in 2016 from government grants..."

Shock: Wages and Jobs Soar at American Businesses 'Hit' by Metals Tariffs | Breitbart

"When President Trump on the first day of March said that the U.S. would impose a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and a ten percent tariff on imported aluminum, many economists predicted that this spelled trouble for the industries that rely on steel and aluminum for their products.
...Yet there are few signs that the tariffs are having a negative effect on America’s metal using industries.
In fact, American businesses that make the most use of metals are adding jobs at a rate that is four times as fast as the broader economy, according to data from the Department of Labor.

  • The fabricated metals sector–where workers transform metal into intermediate or end products other than machinery, computers and electronics, and metal furniture–added jobs in March, April, May and June.
  • ...In June alone, fabricated metals added 7,000 jobs.
  • Machinery manufacturing added jobs...
  • Transportation manufacturing, the sector that includes automakers and aerospace, added jobs...

"A SEPTA bus crashed into two cars and a home on Frankford Avenue, killing one man and injuring multiple others.
...James Robert Derbyshire of East Torresdale was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:30 p.m. Derbyshire was sharing an inflatable wading pool with his son and a woman, neighbors said, in front of his son’s home on Frankford Avenue when he was killed.
A bus carrying about 15 passengers ran a red light at the intersection of Morell Avenue and Frankford shortly before 6 p.m. and hit a Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ that were traveling on Frankford.
The bus then jumped the curb, plowing through fence posts and shrubbery toward the three people before striking the home on the 9800 block of Frankford Avenue and coming to a stop, police said.
Derbyshire was visiting for his daughter’s wedding, neighbors said..."
Comments
  • Busta Nutter---The first time Septa ever picked anyone up at their door, and it leads to a death. Sad.
  • Randolphnurina---We need to outlaw Buses, ban them from big cities. No one has a "Right" to drive a bus that kills people.
  • Curmudgeon---If I didn't have to work, I would love to station myself on a corner on E. Market St. and compile a spreadsheet with the date, time, bus number and the number of times buses run red lights -- just on Market St. They sound their horns to let pedestrians know not to step off as they will be barreling through the light. Courteous, no? I have lived in Center City for over 20 years and am appalled by the number of times I see public vehicles running red lights. I am surprised more accidents like this haven't happened.
  • Scenewriter---...We need common-sense Bus Control before another dies.
  • Bunsonhoneydew2013---As a professional bus driver, I must ask... What happened Man?! This article reads like a zombie bus went wild. My boss would hold the driver more personally responsible. This is a major operator malfunction. Is the driver Muslim?
  • Randolphnurina---Reply to @bunsonhoneydew2013: More likely the Driver was watching Maxine Waters on his iPad and didn't see the red light...."

USCIS officers have always had powers, but in the past had usually referred cases to other parts of Homeland Security for decisions on deportation.
