“I want them to have this kind of freedom and joy, and hopefully one day we can go shopping hand in hand,” she said. For now, she fears for their safety because of her escape, and asked not to be named in this story. Her comments, provided through an interpreter, have been lightly edited for clarity.

"The rabble can’t be trusted with self-driving cars, and only companies operating fleets of them should be able to use them in dense urban areas.
So say Uber and Lyft, as signatories to a new list of transportation goals developed by a group of international non-governmental organizations and titled “Shared Mobility Principles for Livable Cities.”
...According to Principle No. 10, the signatories — which also include other companies involved in transportation as a service — agree that autonomous vehicles in “dense urban areas” should only be operated in fleets..."

The 18-year-old student on Friday admitted in 3rd District Juvenile Court to criminal mischief, a third-degree felony, as well as two counts of assault and one count of disrupting a meeting, all class B misdemeanors.
Judge Elizabeth Knight dismissed the remaining 14 charges.
The Park Record is not naming the student because he was a minor at the time of the incident.
...The teen admitted during the hearing that he released the spray in the lecture hall “with the intention to disrupt a meeting.”
“I didn’t feel as though it was a very safe thing for a lot of our students to really have in our school, so I decided I wanted to disrupt it,” he said during the hearing..."

"It’s worth noting that even in the Jetson’s future world of flying cars a driver was still required.

That’s because the Jetsons lived in a world where technology may have advanced but the fundamental elements of human nature remained the same.
Which is to say most humans like to be in control.
Driving gives us that sense, we can’t control the other idiots on the road but we can control how we maneuver around their stupidity.
And that may be why we may actually be closer to the flying car than the driverless car.
...I cannot in a thousand years imagine why you’d turn your car controls over to a computer whose guts were built in China and will be, like your laptop, prone to failure at the most inopportune moment…leaving you completely vulnerable.
...But then, I’ve written about this before: Driverless Cars: The Pinnacle of Soul-Sucking Anti-American Wussification.
Could there be anything less American than driverless cars?
I suppose sexbots might quality but certainly driverless cars are right up there..."

"Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel isn’t just trying to replace a winning basketball coach.
He’s trying to find a coach who will keep the program’s established culture intact.
Winning, obviously, is important.
But sleeping is more important.

Why Bill de Blasio is running for president | Spectator USA

Why Bill de Blasio is running for president | Spectator USA
"...the grounds on which de Blasio is operating becomes clearer.
It all stems from the corruption cloud that has long engulfed his mayoral administration.
Image result for political corruptionPeople might not even remember (if they ever knew in the first place) that he ended up embroiled in serious legal jeopardy for much of his tenure in office.
...There were two simultaneous investigations happening at the time; both federal and state.
...Really, all of this just scratches the surface – more corruption-related leaks are destined to surface in short order.
...All of this gets to the fundamental corruption at the heart of the American presidential election system: it’s become a racket, effectively a jobs program for useless consultants.
What with the hyper-politicization observed during the Trump era, even the most hopeless candidate at least has a shot to raise significant sums and blow it on sleazy operatives promising that they alone possess the tools to successfully bolster the candidate’s image on TV and the web.
...In de Blasio’s case, his city-based fundraising operation has already been basically shuttered by the cops, so why not take that same approach to the national stage and see who bites.
It’s too tempting to pass up, especially if you’re operating with boundless hubris to begin with.
Reach for the stars, Bill!"
