Ex-CBS Journalist Active in Covering Benghazi, Fast & Furious Describes ‘Chilling Effect’ Obama Admin. Has on Reporting | Video | TheBlaze.com:

“It never runs,” she continued. “Or it dies the death of a thousand cuts, as some of us say. If it’s something they don’t want it will be changed and revised and shortened and altered so much that it’s a shadow of its former self if it does air.”
Attkisson, who had been active in covering the aftermath of the Benghazi terror attacks and the Fast and Furious scandal, abruptly announced she had resigned from CBS News last month. According to Politico, sources said Attkisson had grown increasingly frustrated by what she perceived as a liberal bias at CBS News.
In her Fox News interview, Attkisson described what she says is a “chilling effect” the Obama administration has on reporters."

"New York's new budget contains amendments to a social services law intended to keep welfare recipients from spending government money on alcohol, gambling or strippers.
The measure, scheduled to take effect at the end of May, prohibits gaming facilities, liquor stores, adult entertainment venues and some other retail outlets from accepting electronic benefit transfers from public assistance recipients."

DailyDirt: Algorithms + Cameras = Awesome

Digital cameras are almost everywhere, and they're getting smaller and smarter.
Whole new categories of cameras are being developed that don't need lenses or don't need large sensors.
Instead, algorithms are being used to manipulate digitized light rays to create impressive images without traditional camera components.
Here are just a few examples.

Bullied Student Records Bullies, Gets Threatened With Felony Charges For Violating Wiretapping Law

Bullied Student Records Bullies, Gets Threatened With Felony Charges For Violating Wiretapping Law | Techdirt:
Here comes another story highlighting the danger of schools "outsourcing" their disciplinary problems to law enforcement. As we've stated before, this does nothing more than turn routine misconduct into criminal behavior, which is a great way to derail a student's future.

A Pennsylvania teen, who claimed to have been bullied constantly (and ignored by school administration), made an audio recording of his tormentors using a school-supplied iPad. He brought this to the school's attention, which duly responded by calling the cops… to have him arrested for violating Pennsylvania's wiretapping law. (h/t to Techdirt reader btr1701)
[The student's mother, Shea] Love says that upon fielding her complaint, Principal Scott Milburn called South Fayette Township police Lieutenant Robert Kurta to the school to interrogate her son in the presence of Associate Principal Aaron Skrbin and Dean of Students Joseph Silhanek. The defendant testified before Judge McGraw-Desmet that he was forced to play the audio for the group and then delete it. Love says by the time she arrived at the school, her son was surrounded by school officials and the police officer and was visibly distraught. She says Milburn defended the teacher's response to the classroom disturbance.
The administration, rather than consider targeting the recorded bullies, instead called the cops believing (on advice from district lawyers, no less) that they had a felon in their office.

Congressman Lamar Smith on Lawless Obama Administration: ‘I Can’t Wait to Hold it Responsible’:

"ON THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S LAWLESSNESS:
“I have never seen an administration who doesn’t respect the rule of law as much as this administration. They go out of their way to undermine laws, to ignore laws, to change laws, to try to make laws through executive order. We’ve never seen anything on this scale before.”

“We need to remind the president that he swore to uphold the Constitution. He swore to uphold the laws of the land, not undermine them, and not try to make them up.”

'Tax Freedom Day' falls three days later this year

'Tax Freedom Day' falls three days later this year | The Daily Caller:
"According to a report released Monday by the Tax Foundation, this year Tax Freedom Day falls 111 days into 2014, on April 21.
By April 21, to group says, Americans will have made enough to pay the $3 trillion in federal taxes and $1.5 trillion in state taxes — more than they will spend on food clothing and housing combined.
Tax Freedom Day is later than it was last year, due in large part to the slow economic recovery, the tax policy research group argues.
“Tax Freedom Day is three days later than last year due mainly to the country’s continued slow economic recovery, which is expected to boost tax revenue especially from the corporate, payroll, and individual income tax,” authors Kyle Pomerleau and Lyman Stone write.
If federal borrowing is included, the group calculated that Tax Freedom Day would fall 15 days later on May 6."

Anti-bullying law is bullying, court told

Anti-bullying law is bullying, court told:
"It alleges that enforcing draconian and fluid anti-bullying rules violates the rights of students under the First and Fourteenth Amendments.

“What school officials conveniently seem to keep forgetting is that students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate,” said John W. Whitehead, president of the Rutherford Institute and author of “A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State.” “While we all want our schools to be safe, nurturing environments for our children, anti-bullying statutes – well-meaning as they may start out – are Orwellian in nature and inevitably run afoul of the Constitution’s protections for free speech and expression.”"

Our Psychodramatic Campuses

Works and Days » Our Psychodramatic Campuses:
Dartmouth College students recently staged an overnight sit-in the office of their president Philip Hanlon. They had over seventy demands.
Apparently, they grew out of their alleged suffering at the hands of “racist, classist, sexist, heterosexist, trans-homophobic, xenophobic, and ablest structures.”
Translating into English, the students elaborated, "Our bodies are already on the line, in danger, and under attack”
— suggesting conditions similar to the teen-aged Marines who stormed Fallujah in November 2004, or perhaps the iron-workers who tip-toe on girders 1,000 feet above Manhattan, or an acquaintance of mine whose work clothes reveal that he pumps out quite messy rural cesspools.
As redress for their suffering, the oppressed students issued Orwellian calls to ban particularly hurtful vocabulary, to create new faculty positions based entirely on race, and to ensure gender-neutral student housing.
Most of the students represent the .01% of American society.

They can enjoy their four- to five-year hiatus from the American rat race, either due to wealthy parents or to charity in the forms of grants that allow them to pay the $60,000 per year plus in room, board, and tuition.
Again, most Americans either do not have such money or access to such money to afford the quarter-million-dollar “under attack” Dartmouth experience.
President Hanlon apparently felt the students’ pain of what they had called “micro-aggressions,” or the day-to-day psychodramatic angst that these young elites feel that are their own versions of the world of the Wal-Mart checker, the roofer in Delano who nails in 105 degree August heat, or the tractor driver who has disked half-mile long rows day in and day out on the farm.

Teacher quits, blames Common Core

Teacher quits, blames Common Core:
"Her letter says, in part, “I can no longer be a part of a system that continues to do the exact opposite of what I am supposed to do as a teacher – I am supposed to help them think for themselves, help them find solutions to problems, help them become productive members of society. Instead, the emphasis is on Common Core Standards and high stakes testing that is creating a teach-to-the-test mentality for our teachers, and stress and anxiety for our students.

“Students have increasingly become hesitant to think for themselves, because they have been programmed to believe that there is one right answer,” she said."

Hate—and Hitler—in the Heartland: The Arrest of Frazier Glenn Miller - The Daily Beast:
"In recent years, Miller ran unsuccessfully for elective offices, including the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S Senate, receiving 23 and seven votes, respectively.
His 2010 Senate campaign—for which his slogan was “It’s the Jews, Stupid”—landed him an interview on The Howard Stern Show."

The next ObamaCare disasters

Read 'em all and weep for our children and our country......
The next ObamaCare disasters | New York Post:
On Friday the president used the long-awaited resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to again claim victory for his namesake health law. “She got it fixed, got the job done,” Obama said. Right.
Sorry, there is plenty of more bad news ahead.
It’s not called SebeliusCare, and she wasn’t to blame for most of its problems. The horrors were mostly baked into the law, with some made worse by the president’s dishonest hard sell to get unsuspecting Americans to sign up.

Premium defaults

Obama claimed Friday that 7.5 million people have enrolled in exchange coverage. In fact, perhaps 20 percent haven’t paid their first premium and therefore aren’t covered, according to estimates by RAND Corp. and Goldman Sachs.
The bigger question is how many will keep paying premiums. That’s got the American Medical Association, a chief ObamaCare booster, so worried that it’s sending warnings to its members.
Why the concern? First-time insurance purchasers, especially those living paycheck to paycheck, will be shocked by ObamaCare’s high deductibles, about $3,000 for the silver plan (the most commonly selected) and $5,000 for the bronze plan (the most affordable).
Basically, you’ll have to pay thousands out of pocket for appointments, tests and prescriptions until you reach your deductible.

Feminists Go Bonkers Over Kirsten Dunst's One, Simple Comment

Feminists Go Bonkers Over Kirsten Dunst's One, Simple Comment:

"The left seems to count on Hollywood stars to toe the ideological line, reacting harshly whenever a celebrity shows any sign of independent thought. Actress Kirsten Dunst was among the latest targets following a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
By embracing a view that was almost universally shared among Americans just a few generations ago, she faced cruel ad hominem attacks from numerous media outlets and feminist leaders.
She said feminine qualities that were once celebrated have “been a little undervalued” in our current society."

Escape from Liberal Despair?

Articles: Escape from Liberal Despair?
If you want to understand why there are so many liberals in New York City, listen to the story of a couple I know all too well.
Donna and Frank, earning six-figures in salary, lived in relative squalor in Brooklyn, NY, as I related to AT readers in February.
They resided in a dark, dingy, rat-infested one room apartment.
Their neighborhood consisted of streets of dilapidated industrial buildings and sidewalks littered with trash and makeshift habitats for the homeless.
This was punctuated by the deafening traffic noise and exhaust fumes from the elevated expressway that ran overhead.
Like flies in the proverbial vinegar jar, they believed it was the sweetest place on Earth.
However, there was a subliminal anger dwelling deep within them, a vague feeling that some outside force was waging war on their existence.

.......I credit the “broken windows” theory.
A deleterious and toxic environment, such as the one Frank and Donna experienced in Brooklyn, is a cancer to the soul.
The result is a darkness that produces envy, frustration, and a hopelessness that is the foundation for a distorted leftist political philosophy.
As a growing, less-regulated and more free-market environment, sunny Orlando has been their repaired window.

If two such individuals can rehabilitate themselves, perhaps all is not lost for the rest of us.

How Being a Doctor Became the Most Miserable Profession

How Being a Doctor Became the Most Miserable Profession - The Daily Beast:
Nine of 10 doctors discourage others from joining the profession, and 300 physicians commit suicide every year.
When did it get this bad?
By the end of this year, it’s estimated that 300 physicians will commit suicide
While depression amongst physicians is not new—a few years back, it was named the second most suicidal occupation—the level of sheer unhappiness amongst physicians is on the rise
Simply put, being a doctor has become amiserable and humiliating undertaking. Indeed, many doctors feel that America has declared war on physicians—and both physicians and patients are the losers.

Hookers turning Airbnb apartments into temporary brothels

Hookers turning Airbnb apartments into temporary brothels | New York Post:
Hookers are using the controversial Airbnb home-sharing Web site to turn prime Manhattan apartments into temporary brothels, The Post has learned.
One escort service is even saving a bundle by renting Airbnb apartments instead of hotel rooms for clients’ quickies, says a 21-year-old call girl who works for the illicit business.
“It’s more discreet and much cheaper than The Waldorf,” said the sex worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“Hotels have doormen and cameras. They ask questions. Apartments are usually buzz-in.”
The prostitute, a buxom brunette who charges up to $500 an hour, said her escort service generally rents an Airbnb apartment in the Financial District or Midtown West for up to a week at time — then cycles numerous hookers through the place for trysts around-the-clock.

Obama On The Red Line And On The Rat Line

Obama On The Red Line And On The Rat Line | Zero Hedge:
"At the eleventh hour Obama backed down when General Dempsey said flat out no—and then lied that he had changed his mind after a walk around the White House with his clueless chief of staff.
The foolish incumbent in the White House and his clownish Secretary of State, the man with the big head of hair and self-evidently not much underneath, then had to suffer the indignity of being rescued from their disastrous schemes and misadventures by Vladimir Putin.
Does that not explain their subsequent insensible campaign to destabilize the Ukraine and then to provoke the current insane showdown with Russia that has resulted from the putsch against a legitimately elected government in Kiev?

Does not Obama’s incredible follies and abuses of power here described provide a palpable warning that it is time to dismantle the Warfare State?
That is, before still another election turns out to be a mere ratification of an American Imperium being conducted by a permanent rogue regime buried deep within the Warfare State that our national security no longer requires?
As I said, read Seymour Hersh’s devastating expose and think about it."

Virginia college 'free-speech zones' latest to fall | Fox News

Virginia college 'free-speech zones' latest to fall | Fox News:

"Coast to coast, these kinds of restrictions on student speech are a widespread problem," said Parks' attorney, David Hacker of the Christian legal advocacy organization Alliance Defending Freedom.
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education says about six in 10 colleges nationwide have policies that violate First Amendment rights -- and about one in six impose "free speech zones" like the policy at issue in the Virginia case -- even though such restrictions rarely survive constitutional challenges."
