Michigan’s roads rank as worst despite 5th-highest vehicle fees

Michigan’s roads rank as worst despite 5th-highest vehicle fees
Michigan vehicle fees are among the nation’s highest and its roads rank as the nation’s worst. Will making gas taxes the nation’s highest really fix anything?
"...Whitmer during the summer floated a plan to nearly quadruple the state’s gas tax from 18.7 cents to more than 71 cents per gallon for road repairs. She did not get the increase, but she hasn’t given up.
Image result for whitmer fix the damn roads memeMichiganders already have among the highest vehicle registration fees in the country, raising questions about the need for a big gas tax hike...
Currently, Michigan’s gas tax is eighth highest in the nation, but a 45-cent gas tax would make Michigan the highest.
Michigan, by nearly 25%, would top the current No. 1, Pennsylvania, and its gasoline tax of 57.6 cents.
...A recent study found Michigan’s roads are the nation’s worst.
It also found no correlation between higher gas taxes or higher construction spending and the quality of a state’s roads..."

Uranium-contaminated site collapses into Detroit RIver

Uranium-contaminated site collapses into Detroit RIver:
"...The site has faced scrutiny regarding safety hazards and who would be held responsible for its cleanup.
According to a 2011 evaluation study by the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the property, at that time there was a “potential ... for significant residual radiation.”
The news is especially concerning because the Detroit drinking water intake lines are nearby downriver.
Due to the timing of the collapse, the spill went unnoticed to many responsible state and federal environmental regulatory agencies. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials were not aware of the collapse until contacted by the Windsor Star on Wednesday..."

Antarctic Sea Ice Reaches New Record Maximum - NASA - Ice Age Now
"On September 20 of this year, sea ice surrounding Antarctica covered 7.78 million sq miles (20.14 million sq km), according to NASA. That’s more than twice as big as the continental United States (3.11 million sq miles).
Sea ice surrounding Antarctica reached a new record high extent this year, covering more of the southern oceans than it has since scientists began a long-term satellite record to map sea ice extent in the late 1970s.

On Sept. 19, 2014, the five-day average of Antarctic sea ice extent exceeded 20 million square kilometers for the first time since 1979, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center. Antarctic sea ice extent exceeded 7.72 million square miles (20 million square kilometers), according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.
The ice extent stayed above this benchmark extent for several days.

Overflow Crowd Turns Out in Blue County to Support Second Amendment

Overflow Crowd Turns Out in Blue County to Support Second Amendment:
"An overflow crowd of gun-rights supporters turned out on Tuesday evening to the Democratic-controlled Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting to push the locality to declare it would not help enforce unconstitutional gun laws.
The crowd exceeded the auditorium's 350-person seating capacity, and a few dozen people wearing "Guns Save Lives" stickers were left lining the walls.
The vast majority came to support residents who requested that the northern Virginia county become a Second Amendment sanctuary, meaning it will refuse to enforce gun laws they consider unconstitutional.
After sitting quietly through two hours of discussion about baseball-field lighting, the crowd erupted at the end of each pro-gun speech during the public-comment period..."

Mike Pence: Mocking Barron Trump is 'New Low' for Impeachment

Mike Pence: Mocking Barron Trump is 'New Low' for Impeachment:

Image result for flickr commons images Mike PenceVice President Mike Pence said the ongoing impeachment hearings sunk to a “new low” after Stanford law professor Pamela Karlan took a potshot at President Donald Trump’s youngest son, 13-year-old Barron Trump, while testifying before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
“The impeachment hearings today reached a new low,” Pence told reporters in Holland, Michigan, shortly after the incident. “I just heard at the hearing today, one of the Democrats’ witnesses actually used the President and first lady’s 13-year-old son to justify their partisan impeachment. Democrats should be ashamed.”
