But when politics enters the fray and fears are stoked to scare people into accepting costly and harmful policies, it is important to push back.

We are so nauseated by the effusive praise of former Democratic Senate majority leader Harry Reid of Nevada, who died on Wed. (even Mitch McConnell said nice things about him), that we feel compelled to remind our readers of the truth.

- First, Reid claimed up until his last days that one of his “proudest accomplishments” was to block President George W. Bush’s attempt to create personal accounts for Social Security. “Accomplishment?” If we had privatized Social Security back in the early 1990s when even Bill Clinton endorsed this reform and the Dow Jones was at 8,000 (it is 36,000 today), tens of millions of Americans would be retiring with one million dollars or more in their private IRA accounts and would be receiving retirement income two to three TIMES more than Social Security will pay them. And younger Americans would have accounts overflowing with money. Great going Harry, you putz!
- Perhaps even worse, was Harry’s despicable and deliberate lie told during the 2012 presidential election. Reid claimed that he had seen Mitt Romney’s tax returns and that Romney “paid zero taxes for 10 years.” Even the Washington Post admitted it was all a bold-faced lie. What made the lie even more disgusting was that Reid NEVER apologized for his duplicity. Instead he BOASTED about it. When he was asked about it after the election, Reid replied, “ I don’t regret that at all. Romney didn’t win, did he?”

- Johnson, the former executive director, allegedly stole a total of at least $338,000 from the school by using school debit cards, checks, wire transfers, and cash withdrawals, the state officials said. The money was used towards Las Vegas trips, NBA tickets, a hot tub for his home, and a variety of personal items and services.
- Jones, who served as the Nutritional Services Director allegedly stole at least $25,000 from the school. This included $21,000 for unauthorized food purchases for himself including shrimp, crab legs, ribeye steaks, salmon, catfish, and lobsters. He also used school funds to pay $3,500 for auto repairs on his and another school employee’s vehicles.
- Williams served as the finance director and received a little over $35,000 in duplicate salary payments and excessive stipends.
- In addition to the funds the group is accused of stealing, the comptroller’s office found Williams made more than $360,000 in “annual compensation, stipends, and performance bonus payments” without any records to justify the payments. Johnson also was found to have made $40,000 in payments from a school bank account to or on behalf of 100 Black Men, a civic organization in which Johnson is a member. There was no documentation to justify the payments.

Without naming de Blasio, Adams nonetheless acknowledged the frustration felt by many New Yorkers regarding de Blasio's tenure, lamenting that New York City had endured "continual crises" during the last two years. Adams, who has repeatedly stated his insistence on keeping New York City's businesses and schools open during the Omicron wave, promised that "this will be our New Year's resolution: We will not be controlled by crises."

This policy must be reversed immediately, and if it isn’t, lawsuits filed. Denying treatment to some patients but allowing it for others based on their race/ethnicity is unquestionably unconstitutional, and hence this state action is unconstitutional. Moreover, such discriminatory policies will bitterly divide the country along racial lines and increase the growing distrust in our public-health institutions.

...The criminal probably thought he was stealing a $500 or $1000 item from some big conglomerate.

...For one thing, the trucking company had to put up this driver in a hotel, and cover his meals, for an additional week in New Mexico. This cost wasn’t built into the quoted price for this load, but it isn’t high enough to meet the deductible on the company‘s insurance. The trucking company is taking a financial loss on this move, for sure.
But more importantly, this criminal stole a week of time, precious time, from this driver.
And during the holidays, too.
...The cities and counties of America now have dozens of district attorneys (many elected with massive funding from George Soros) who maintain that theft in this price range isn’t worth caring about, isn’t worth following up, isn’t worth reporting, much less prosecuting.
But crime costs more than a simple price tag.
