Pot the right medicine for potholes?

RUMBLINGS: Pot the right medicine for potholes? | Crain's Detroit Business:
"The prospect of state lawmakers pushing forward on a plan to raise taxes by $1.2 billion to fix Michigan roads appears to have gone up in smoke, but a proposal to tax medical marijuana might be just what the doctor ordered.

"Pot for potholes" is a plan Rep. Mike Callton, R-Nashville, Mich., has discussed, and he estimates it could generate $5 million to $10 million per year in state revenue that could be dedicated to road funding.
But he knows it's not nearly enough.
"That why I say it's 'pot for potholes,' not "pot for bridge reconstruction,' " Callton said. "

One Weird Trick to Expose the Truth About ObamaCare

Articles: One Weird Trick to Expose the Truth About ObamaCare:
"At that point my suggestion (which I titled "one weird trick" because advertisers claim it gets readers' attention and I want yours) is to insist that

(a) all exemptions from the coverage of the act, including House and Senate members and staff, favored donors, and other cronies be scrapped. We are all covered or none are;

and(b) given the huge amounts of fraud already rampant within the Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamp entitlement programs, no subsidies will be given out absent proof of identity and income verification.
(The government will be relying on the "honor system" for income representations and about 2 weeks from launch cannot still put in place a computer system to correctly calculate subsidies.)

If the Democrats refuse to agree to these provisos, it seems to me the public debate -- if the Republicans can muster any sort of decent response -- is not evil Republicans shutting down the government but rather, the Democrats are so committed to increase fraud and favoritism to their supporters and donors that THEY'D shut down the government to keep that graft and privilege alive."

Who betrayed Navy SEAL Team 6?

KUHNER: Who betrayed Navy SEAL Team 6? - Washington Times:
"Navy SEAL Team 6 has attained international prominence for one reason:
They were responsible for killing Osama bin Laden. They are American heroes.
Yet, their own government betrayed them. Several days after the bin Laden operation, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. — in a pathetic attempt to spike the football and gloat — publicly revealed their central role in the raid. His revelations put a giant target on the backs of every Navy SEAL Team 6 member. U.S. pilot scares off Iranians with 'Top Gun'-worthy stunt: 'You really ought to go home'

U.S. pilot scares off Iranians with 'Top Gun'-worthy stunt: 'You really ought to go home' - Washington Times:
"The Aviationist reports that in March a U.S. MQ-1 drone came close to being intercepted by an Iranian F-4 Phantom combat plane, but the Iranian aircraft stopped short after a warning by an American pilot.

“He [the Raptor pilot] flew under their aircraft [the F-4s] to check out their weapons load without them knowing that he was there, and then pulled up on their left wing and then called them and said ‘you really ought to go home,’” Gen. Welsh said."

'Lost generation' struggles

'Lost generation' struggles | The Detroit News:
"No voting bloc has been more responsible for Barack Obama’s two terms in office than the youth vote. And, ironically, no demographic has suffered more from his policies.

With presidential initiatives from Obamacare to higher taxes suppressing job creation, young workers are hurting in the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression.
The recovery has left them behind, creating a “lost generation,” reports the Wall Street Journal, which mirrors the White House’s model of heavily-regulated European economies where youth unemployment is a staggering 23 percent.
The U.S. jobless rate for those under 25 is 15.6 percent — more than double the rest of the working population — with their median weekly wage falling more than 5 percent since 2007."

"The left is having a temper tantrum.
Reading a couple of liberal scribes over the past 24 hours, we can almost hear the huffing and puffing, the indignant stamping of feet; reading their tweets, we can nearly hear the feverish pitch of their whines.
Oh, the outrage.

On and on.
The cause?
These hysterically creepy ads Generation Opportunity released urging young people to opt out of Obamacare on Oct. 1."

Michigan removes child from medical marijuana home; who's right?

Tim Skubick: Michigan removes child from medical marijuana home; who's right? | MLive.com:
"The recent case of Baby Bree underscores that parents can lose custody of their children even if they legally grow and consume marijuana in their home.
A referee recently ruled that Maria and Gordon Steven Green were subjecting their six-month-old baby to possible danger because of grass.
“They were worried about the possibility of break-ins, armed robbery that kind of thing,” mother Green explains. “He (the referee) put that out as a possibility and that warranted immediate danger for the child.”

"Reads like a whodunnit!
By Citizenfitz on December 21, 2010
Format: Paperback
I bought How to Avoid Huge Ships as a companion to Captain Trimmer's other excellent titles:
How to Avoid a Train, and How to Avoid the Empire State Building.
These books are fast paced, well written and the hard won knowledge found in them is as inspirational as it is informational.
After reading them I haven't been hit by anything bigger than a diesel bus.
Thanks captain!

Officials: Muskegon County bond sale shows Detroit bankruptcy didn't break Michigan's credit

Officials: Muskegon County bond sale shows Detroit bankruptcy didn't break Michigan's credit | MLive.com: "Muskegon County’s bonds are being sold with a yield of 4.75 percent."
$39 MILLION!
4.75% triple tax-free is essentially a "Detroit style" junk bond yield.
Plus the county likely must add the cost of bond insurance to the cost to taxpayers.
All to fund a new jail the chairman of the county board of commissioners promised, last fall, would cost no more than $23 million.
And they told us they already had $7 million saved so the bond need should have been $16 million.
But wait, there's more!
County administrator Bonnie Hammersley has publically stated numerous times, the efficiencies of the new buildings will guarantee so much in employee and energy savings that the bonds will pay for themselves!
Yeah right....
$3 million is due in a year.
What company (without bigtime financial "inducements") would ever consider moving to Muskegon county with bogus promises and fiscal insanity being the rule of the land?

The Slowest Generation: Younger Athletes Are Racing With Less Concern About Time

The Slowest Generation: Younger Athletes Are Racing With Less Concern About Time - WSJ.com:
"Old-timers are suggesting that performance-related apathy among young amateur athletes helps explain why America hasn't won an Olympic marathon medal since 2004.
Of the two Americans who won marathon medals that year, one—Deena Kastor, who is now 40—was the top finishing American woman at the marathon World Championships in Moscow last month.
The other—38-year-old Meb Keflezighi—was the top American male finisher at the London Olympics marathon last year.
Hunter Kemper, the 37-year-old winner of last month's Chicago Triathlon, remains arguably America's top triathlete as he aims for his fifth Olympics."

The Little Lies The Media Tell About ObamaCare

The Little Lies The Media Tell About ObamaCare - Investors.com:
Bias: Heard the one about how House Republicans have passed 40-plus bills to repeal or defund ObamaCare, all of which went nowhere?
It's not true.
Yet the mainstream press continues to peddle this blatant falsehood.
....Yet the media pretend these things never happened.
This is admittedly a little thing.
But as the Good Book says:

Chicago plagued by hundreds of multiple shootings

Chicago plagued by hundreds of multiple shootings - chicagotribune.com:
"The vast majority of shootings in Chicago involve just one or two victims, but data collected by the Tribune show an alarming number of shootings in which sprayed gunfire hits more than one person.
Of 2,853 people shot in the city since Jan. 1, 2012, there have been 89 shootings involving three victims, according to the Tribune data.
In the same period there were 31 incidents in which four people were shot, and nine incidents in which five people were shot.
The tally includes homicide victims.

Police and other experts were hard-pressed Friday to recall a shooting with so many victims, although shootings involving nine victims happened on the South Side in 2009 and 2010."

Too Big To Fail Is Now Bigger Than Ever Before |

Too Big To Fail Is Now Bigger Than Ever Before |:
" The six largest banks in the United States have gotten 37 percent larger over the past five years.
Meanwhile, 1,400 smaller banks have disappeared from the banking industry during that time.
What this means is that the health of JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley is more critical to the U.S. economy than ever before.
If they were “too big to fail” back in 2008, then now they must be “too colossal to collapse”.
