Colorado changes welfare rule, increasing benefits and costing taxpayers

Colorado changes welfare rule, increasing benefits and costing taxpayers « Watchdog.org
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families is six month less temporary in Colorado — and likely more expensive to taxpayers — after a state Department of Human Services rule change last year, a Watchdog.org investigation found.
The change has counties certifying a welfare recipients’ eligibility to receive benefits twice a year, records show.
Previously, the full recertification was annual but recipients would submit monthly status reports to ensure they qualified for benefits and received the correct amount.
The new rule dropped the monthly status checks and required modifications to benefits in the six month period only if the recipient was due more — not less — money, records show.
After the change went into effect July 2013, counties have seen an increase in the number of people collecting welfare, and the state set a 24-month expenditure record in June for Colorado Works, which is what the state calls its TANF program, state records show.

“My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb,” Miami-based Cedella Marley said in a company statement.
She’s the eldest daughter of the music legend who died of cancer in 1981 and is Jamaica’s most iconic figure.

Glenn Beck Has an Immigration Question for President Obama | Video | TheBlaze.com:

“If you have the action on the streets from Ferguson and it is spreading, why would the president throw another log on the fire the same week?” Beck asked. “Why, Mr. President? Please just explain this to the American people. Why does this have to happen now? Why would you choose this now? I want to believe the best in you. I want to believe that we don’t want to tear the republic apart. Domestic tranquility.”

“This is not the time to come out with an executive order, one that you said you couldn’t defend,” Beck added. “Why would you do it on the same week as Ferguson?”

....In a fact sheet, the White House said the commitments bring the U.S. one step closer to achieving President Barack Obama's goal, announced in March 2012, of becoming the first nation to produce plug-in electric vehicles as affordable for the average American family as gasoline-powered vehicles.

Rejected for Being Asian: Students Sue Harvard, UNC Over Race-Based Admissions

Rejected for Being Asian: Students Sue Harvard, UNC Over Race-Based Admissions - Hit & Run : Reason.com:
"Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are facing lawsuits over their race-based admissions schemes, which hold Asian and white students to higher standards because of their skin color.
The lawsuits were filed Monday by a group of interested parties, including two unnamed college students who were rejected from Harvard and UNC.
According to Inside Higher Ed, the Harvard applicant is of Asian ethnicity:
He had a perfect ACT score, two 800s on SAT II subject exams, and was valedictorian of his high school.
He didn't get in.
Remarkably, Harvard has managed to keep its Asian student population constant over the years, while universities that don't consider race as an admission factor have seen more and more Asians gain admittance.
....One professor even had the gall to suggest that discriminating against Asians is good for Asians. According to Fox News:
“Asian-American students benefit greatly from attending the racially and socio-economically diverse campuses that affirmative action helps create,” Julie Park, assistant professor of education at the University of Maryland and author of the book “When Diversity Drops,” told FoxNews.com."

The unkindest cut of all: The Russian Solution for dealing with terrorism

The unkindest cut of all: The Russian Solution for dealing with terrorism | The Wilmington Examiner:
"Despite being then, as now, the former USSR/current Russian Federation being a major player in the region, not a single Soviet was ever taken hostage.
Not one.
There was a story floating around back then that very well could be an urban myth.
But true or not, it correctly painted quite a picture of that particular Russian trait of killing flies with sledgehammers.

As the story goes, Soviet intel uncovered a plot to nab some very minor Russian staffer in Lebanon by whatever group of terrorists who sought to make a name for themselves.
Supposedly, the leader of this particular group woke up one morning and noticed a small drinking glass on a table next to his bed.
Possibly somewhat disconcerting for the would-be abductor, there was no drinking glass on the table when he sacked out the night before.
In the water filled glass was some unrecognizable fleshy-looking material.
As the cautionary tale goes, next to the glass was a small note which said:
“These are your brother’s testicles.
Abandon your plan to harm any Soviet citizen.”
True story?
Who knows … who cares.
The fact of the matter is that no Russians were ever taken hostage back then.
Not one."

“I’ll never forget how on February 14, 2013, I logged onto Google hangout to … find out if our president would address the issue without Congress,” Steward quipped on last night’s “Daily Show.”

War against the poor------Where Federal Health Exchange Rates Will Rise

Where Federal Health Exchange Rates Will Rise - NYTimes.com:

From Cong. Huizenga:
Michigan Health Care Costs Set To Skyrocket In 2015, Detroit & Lansing Regions To Be Hit With Double Digit Increases

On Friday, the Obama Administration released its health care cost projections for 2015 and the news isn't good for Michigan families.  Despite numerous promises of lower costs from the Administration and its supporters on Capitol Hill, the majority of Michiganders will be hit with significant cost increases in the year ahead.  Making matters worse, residents in the most populous areas of the state, including Detroit and Lansing, are facing double digit increases.

“Throughout the debate on reforming our nation’s health care system, I have continually expressed my reservations about ObamaCare and its ability to provide better access to care at lower costs,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga.  “This latest report again demonstrates that ObamaCare is not and will not be the answer to controlling costs.  Moving forward, we need the President to be a constructive voice in the discussion surrounding patient-centered solutions that empower consumers, drive down costs, and improve care.”

It’s also worth noting that about this time last year, 225,000 Michigan residents found out their insurance was going to be cancelled because of ObamaCare. This year, Michiganders are now finding out they have the opportunity to keep their insurance, it’s just going to cost them.

Below are examples of the looming increases in counties across Michigan under the “Affordable” Care Act.

VIDEO: College Students Attempt to Explain Global Warming:
"According to Weather Channel founder John Coleman, man-made climate change is a myth.
College students at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) strongly disagree.

Coleman says: “The ocean is not rising significantly. The polar ice is increasing, not melting away. Polar bears are increasing in number.
Heat waves have diminished, not increased.”
However, the students at UCSB feel very differently.
Every student we interviewed believed in global warming.
When asked what concerned them the most about global warming the answers from the students varied; some were entertaining and some were simply sad."

Gruber Convinced Obama To Create Individual Mandate | The Daily Caller

Gruber Convinced Obama To Create Individual Mandate | The Daily Caller:

"Obama has tried to distance himself from Gruber, who infamously called the American people stupid and detailed the political deception that went into Obamacare’s design. “The fact that some adviser who never worked on our staff expressed an opinion that I completely disagree with in terms of the voters is no reflection on the actual process that was run,” Obama said.

But a video unearthed Monday by American Commitment’s Phil Kerpen showed that Obama admitted to having “stolen ideas liberally” from Gruber as early as 2006.

“The worse thing that could happen is letting a whole bunch of politicians come in and regulate every aspect of what you’re doing,” Cruz said.
The reason the Internet has had the dynamism, opportunity, freedom and diversity it’s had, he added, is because the government hasn’t “plagued” it with many regulations.

“The innovation is happening without having to go to government and say ‘Mother, may I?’ What happens when the government starts regulating a service as a public utility is it calcifies everything and freezes it in place,” the Texas Republican said."

Gruber: Obama personally asked me to help disguise unhelpful Obamacare facts « Hot Air:

"That 2012 profile also quotes Gruber cheerfully describing himself as a “card-carrying Democrat” who routinely holds election night “victory parties” with friends.  (How did this year’s celebration go, I wonder?)  Obama can try to pull a Pelosi with Gruber.  Good luck with that.  Alternatively, he can keep lying about not having lied, but only the hardest-core of partisans will believe him.  Even Obamacare supporters like Ron Fournier are throwing in the towel, conceding that the law was constructed on a “foundation of lies.”  Indeed."

Johns Hopkins Study Reveals Shocking Effects Of Michelle Obama’s Lunchroom Regulations:

"Even as many districts forego vital federal funding to shed the restrictions associated with the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, some continue to promote the utopian idea that forcing health food upon the nation’s students will result in its ultimate consumption. Organizers Train Newly Minted Protesters in St. Louis
Protesters anxiously awaiting the St. Louis grand jury decision relating to the shooting death of 18-year-old Mike Brown have been training activists all weekend in preparation for the day the grand jury makes an announcement about whether to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for Brown’s death.
In a small room located on South Jefferson Avenue in a building used by IUOE Local 148, organizers like Rev. Osagyefo Sekou are instructing groups of individuals about tactics relating to resisting police commands during demonstrations.  Sekou is a St. Louis native who grew up in the area but now lives in Massachusetts.

So one of the four parts of what we’re doing is we are not actually telling you  where to go or what to do or anything to do with most of your actions. We have some central things planned, but the power of this movement has been with really strong decentralized actions.”

U.N. Gun Control Coming Christmas Eve, Bringing Concern

U.N. Gun Control Coming Christmas Eve, Bringing Concern
A few days ago, we reported about Texas attempting to pass a bill that would void any law passed by the Federal Government in regards to gun control laws.
This is the reason that bill is so needed not only in Texas, but in every state.
Second Amendment advocates are concerned that the Obama administration will use a United Nations treaty as a basis for executive action on gun control.
The U.N. Arms Trade Treaty is set to take effect on Christmas Eve.
Though the United States delegation to the U.N. has supported the treaty, it has very little chance of being ratified by two-thirds of the Senate.
But there is still reason for concern, said Catherine Mortensen, spokeswoman for the National Rifle Association.
“We are worried about an end-run around Congress,” Mortensen told TheBlaze. “Barack Obama or a future anti-gun president could use ATT and international norms compliance to rationalize enacting gun control policies through executive actions, especially in the import and export realms.”
“Even now, with an existing appropriations rider prohibiting action to implement the treaty unless it is approved by Congress, administration officials are publicly professing support for international efforts to bring the treaty into effect. That’s outrageous,” she added.
The U.N. General Assembly adopted the treaty in April 2013 with a vote of 154 to 3.
The State Department points out that only Iran, Syria and North Korea opposed it.

Michigan Paid 'Stupidity of American Voter' Obamacare Architect $481,050

A consultant considered an architect to the federal health care law who said a “lack of transparency” and “stupidity of the American voter” were critical to getting it passed reportedly received $481,050 from the state of Michigan, and a recently elected state representative said he wants an investigation.
Jonathan Gruber, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor who created an econometric model intended to project health care spending and costs under different assumptions, along with his team, was granted a $481,050 contract by the state of Michigan, according to the Washington Post. He was paid that to help set up state health-insurance exchange under the federal Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. The Washington Post reported that Gruber received similar payments from three other states, but Michigan paid the consultant $81,050 more than any other state.
Gruber was paid the $481,050 even though the Michigan Legislature did not authorize creating a state-level exchange. In 2012, the Senate approved legislation authorizing one but the House declined, with the result that Michigan currently has an exchange run by the federal government.

California Tells Court It Can't Release Inmates Early Because It Would Lose Cheap Prison Labor

California Tells Court It Can't Release Inmates Early Because It Would Lose Cheap Prison Labor | ThinkProgress:
"....In recent filings, lawyers for the state have resisted court orders that they expand parole programs, reasoning not that releasing inmates early is logistically impossible or would threaten public safety, but instead that prisons won’t have enough minimum security inmates left to perform inmate jobs.
.....But California’s objections raise troubling questions about whether prison labor creates perverse incentives to keep inmates in prison even when they don’t need to be there.
The debate centers around an expansive state program to have inmates fight wildfires.
California is one of several states that employs prison labor to fight wildfires.
And it has the largest such program, as the state’s wildfire problem rapidly expands arguably because of climate change.
By employing prison inmates who are paid less than $2 per day, the state saves some $1 billion.....

BANG! Big Lib Media Join Conservatives In Slamming Obama's Blatant Executive Amnesty Hypocrisy:
"In a lengthy analysis of how Obama’s own words and legal arguments have radically changed over the years, the New York Times points out the numerous instances when Obama, the so-called “constitutional law professor,” has forcefully said he could not do what he is apparently about to do — act unilaterally to impose dramatic changes in U.S. immigration law and its enforcement."

Here are three instances of the newspaper citing Obama’s own, very clear and specific words to explain that a president cannot simply move forward on this kind of domestic front without congressional action granting him the authority:

Japan slides into recession as tax hike takes toll

Japan slides into recession as tax hike takes toll - Houston Chronicle:
"TOKYO (AP) — Japan's economy unexpectedly shrank in the third quarter as housing and business investment declined following a tax hike, dragging the country into a recession and further clouding the outlook for the global economy.
The world's third-largest economy contracted at a 1.6 percent pace in the July-September quarter, the government said Monday, contrary to predictions it would grow after a big drop the previous quarter. The surprise deepens uncertainty when China's growth is slowing and the 18-country eurozone grew only 0.2 percent in the same quarter.
The gross domestic product figures showed across-the-board weakness in demand among consumers, manufacturers and builders.
Many individuals and companies had spent money before the sales tax was hiked in April from 5 percent to 8 percent, and spending has languished since then.
"The impact of the sales tax was much more severe than expected," said Junko Nishioka, an economist at RBS Japan Securities."

Charles Manson gets marriage license

My Way News - AP Exclusive: Charles Manson gets marriage license: "CORCORAN, Calif. (AP)
Mass murderer Charles Manson has gotten a license to marry a 26-year-old woman who visits him in prison.
The marriage license obtained Monday by The Associated Press was issued Nov. 7 for the 80-year-old Manson and Afton Elaine Burton, who left her Midwestern home nine years ago and moved to Corcoran, California — the site of the prison — to be near Manson.
She maintains several websites advocating for Manson's innocence.
The license does not specify a wedding date and indicates the couple has 90 days to get married or they will have to reapply.
Burton, who goes by the name "Star," told the AP that she and Manson will be married next month.
"Y'all can know that it's true," she said. "It's going to happen."
"I love him," she added. "I'm with him. There's all kinds of things.""
