In another foretaste of potential future ‘carbon allowance’ limits, a major bank in Australia has introduced a new feature that links purchases to a customer’s carbon footprint and warns them when they are going over the average.
Australia’s Commonwealth Bank (CBA) has partnered with CoGo, a “carbon management solutions” company, to launch the new feature, which is part of CBA’s online banking platform. [bold, links added]
The bank gives the customer the option to “pay a fee” to offset their carbon footprint, with the average listed as 1,280 kilograms, a long way from the ‘sustainable’ figure of 200 kilograms...

A group of House Republicans sent a letter Thursday to Democratic Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser calling on her to reject two bills passed by the D.C. city council that would allow illegal immigrants to vote in the nation’s capital.
The letter was first obtained by the Daily Caller and was spearheaded by Kentucky Rep. James Comer, the ranking member on the Committee on Oversight and Reform. In the letter, the lawmakers criticize two bills passed by the D.C. city council that allow illegal immigrants to vote in D.C. elections for local positions, including for the mayor and city council members.
As many as 6,000 faulty ballots that only listed federal races were mailed to Arizona voters due to a “voter registration error.”
Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat who is running for governor against Republican Kari Lake, announced the error on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported. Per the outlet:
"A striking 71% of registered voters believe "American democracy is currently under threat," according to the New York Times/Siena poll....
