The Uneven Playing Field - Girls' Sports Injuries

The Uneven Playing Field - Girls' Sports Injuries
"If girls and young women ruptured their A.C.L.’s at just twice the rate of boys and young men, it would be notable. Three times the rate would be astounding.
But some researchers believe that in sports that both sexes play, and with similar rules — soccer, basketball, volleyball — female athletes rupture their A.C.L.’s at rates as high as five times that of males."
This is a national disgrace!
We know of the this epidemic and yet nothing is done.
"5 times the rate of males"!
Where are the feminist organizations? ...... meebeee they're more interested in their quota "equality" than actual little girls?

Time Magazine's Senior Moment

Time Magazine's Senior Moment
"Time wonders if John McCain is healthy enough to be president, a question that was never asked of FDR. Meanwhile, a youthful Barack Obama is busily campaigning in each of the 57 states."

Senator "sweetie" ought to go back to his school books?

Michigan may be $434 million short next budget year

Michigan may be $434 million short next budget year
"Fiscal experts say Michigan could have $434 million less than expected to spend on K-12 schools and other government services in the next budget year.
The financial trouble is here despite last year's increases in the state's personal income and business taxes to balance a budget deficit. Reasons include the national economic slowdown's effect on Michigan's economy and fewer people purchasing cigarettes and buying and selling homes."
Unending spending!
Remember what she means when she says she want to "invest" your money.

The Culinary Institute coming to Baker College

The Culinary Institute coming to Baker College
"The Muskegon college announced their new culinary arts program facility is called The Culinary Institute of Michigan. Included in the facility will be a new restaurant, Courses, and The Sweet Spot, a pastry-and-coffee shop."
I'm guessing that "McI" was not in the top ten finalists for the logo......
Why is working for a leading American employer (McDonald's) so anathema to academia?

'Hire Michigan First' plan introduced

'Hire Michigan First' plan introduced
"Democrats call their 'Hire Michigan First' plan an aggressive way to quickly create jobs and make sure that tax dollars used to attract businesses to the state benefit families here, not out-of-state workers or illegal immigrants.
The plan would reward companies with tax breaks if they accept state contracts to hire only Michigan workers. The plan would also make sure companies report on who they hire to ensure those workers are from Michigan.
Town hall meetings are set for later Thursday to address the issues and answer questions. State Rep. Robert Dean (D-Grand Rapids) will host one at 5:30 p.m. at the Teamsters Hall on Eastern. Then, at 7 p.m., State Reps. Mary Valentine (D-Norton Shores) and Doug Bennett (D-Muskegon) will host one at Muskegon Community College."
Their 'Hire Michigan First' plan is an aggressive way to quickly destroy jobs and tax dollars used to attract businesses by sending out the message to employers that politics, not productivity, is what Michigan is all about.

Brewer elected to school board -
"MUSKEGON HEIGHTS — Franklin Brewer will serve again on the Muskegon Heights school board.
Brewer, of 2320 Fifth, and write-in candidate Kassandra Kitchen, 75 E. Maplewood, ran in the May 6 election for the four-year seat vacated by longtime board member Dwight Vines.

Brewer lost his bid for re-election to the school board in 2006 by four votes to Antonio Suhuba-Baruti, and lost another bid for election to the school board in 2007."

Shocked and surprised!
Michigan lawmakers surprised at cost of tax breaks for movie makers
"Lawmakers on Wednesday seemed somewhat stunned by the estimated $110 million price tag of Michigan's new film promotion program.
The unexpected cost of luring movie makers here could mean less money for local school districts and municipalities."

Teeeechers union bosses out.....student LEARNING improves

The blogging will continue until morale improves...
"Good news in The Big Easy where over a year ago they broke the teachers union and basically started over with publicly financed but privately board run charter schools. This year, testing of fourth and eighth graders have shown improvements by 12% and 4% respectively, in only a year. They still have a long way to go, but this is real progress from a completely failed school system in a short turnaround time. The major reason being given for this success is the quality of teachers they were able to attract."

Isn't it time we focused on "LEARNING" rather than "teaching"?

US lists polar bear as threatened species

US lists polar bear as threatened species: "This is the first time that the Endangered Species Act has been used to protect a species threatened by the impacts of global warming. There has been concern within the business community that such action could have far-reaching impact and could be used to regulate carbon dioxide.
But the decision includes provisions that specifically are aimed at protecting power plants and other energy-related entities, said an official who was familiar with the decision."

This is gonna hurt...... everyone.......

But Navy spokeswoman Lt. Lara Bollinger said no one is allowed to campaign on federal property."

"83-year-old Blanche Roberts died Tuesday at a hospital in nearby Herrin.
A newspaper carrier checking the couple's well-being found Roberts on April 27th. She was trapped by Fred Roberts' body inside their rural home.
Williamson County's coroner says he believes 77-year-old Fred Roberts died of a heart attack four days earlier after mowing the lawn. He fell onto his wife, pinning one of her legs. She was unable to wriggle free.

Ants swarm over Houston area, fouling electronics

We're doomed!

Ants swarm over Houston area, fouling electronics
"In what sounds like a really low-budget horror film, voracious swarming ants that apparently arrived in Texas aboard a cargo ship are invading homes and yards across the Houston area, shorting out electrical boxes and messing up computers."

Renewable energy standards gain momentum in Michigan

Renewable energy standards gain momentum in Michigan
"renewable portfolio standard in Michigan - which would require electricity companies to ensure that a certain percentage of their energy comes from renewable sources."

Doesn't anyone realize this is simply a plan to divert tax dollars from fixing roads and other state needs to rewarding democrat contributors, the eco-charlatans whose companies can't survive ("make a profit") without subsidies.

And now they want every resident in our state (AND BUSINESS!) to pay millions of dollars extra for our energy just to fund these phony companies?

"Something else is going on – namely a cultural rut of pessimism that is draining our collective energy, blinding us to possibilities, and eroding our position in the world"

I'll nominate the depressed liberals who control the TV, newspaper and radio waves.

And the liberal politicians who pander to our lowest common denominator of depression.

Every snippet of news has a negative spin.

Miss. Democrat wins House seat in special election

Miss. Democrat wins House seat in special election
"It's becoming a disturbing trend for Republicans: losing traditional GOP strongholds to Democrats in some hard-fought congressional races.
It happened again Tuesday, as Travis Childers beat Greg Davis in a special election to replace Republican Roger Wicker, ........
Childers' win gave Democrats a 236-199 edge over Republicans in Congress.
Earlier this year, Democrats captured the Illinois district long represented by former Republican Speaker Dennis Hastert, who resigned from Congress. This month, Democrats claimed a seat in Louisiana that Republican Rep. Richard Baker vacated and that the GOP had held since 1974."

The GOP is in serious trouble.

McCain Differs With Bush on Climate Change

McCain Differs With Bush on Climate Change

Senator John McCain sought to distance himself from President Bush on Monday as he called for a mandatory limit on greenhouse gas emissions in the United States to combat climate change.
Mr. McCain, in a speech at a wind power company, also pledged to work with the European Union to diplomatically engage China and India, two of the world’s biggest polluters, if they refuse to participate in an international agreement to slow global warming.

Is this the end of McCain's chance to win the Presidency?

A Gulf in Giving: Oil-Rich States Starve the World Food Program
"United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his top lieutenants on Monday are convening the first meeting of the U.N.’s Task Force on the Global Food Crisis. Ban says it will “study the root causes of the crisis,” and propose solutions for “coordinated global action” at a summit of world leaders in June.
Ban might want to consider convincing the oil-rich nations of the Middle East to provide more than the near-invisible amount of money they currently give to the World Food Program (WFP), the U.N.’s food-giving arm, which is charged with alleviating the food crisis.
WFP internal documents show that the major oil producing nations of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) gives almost nothing to the food organization, even as skyrocketing oil prices and swollen oil revenues contribute to the very crisis that the U.N. claims could soon add 100 million more people to the world’s starving masses."
