"Residents of Flint, Michigan in the United States remain exposed to water contaminated with lead and bacteria three years since the water crisis first hit the headlines.

Anger is still palpable among its residents, who are facing the prospect of at least another three years before the problem is fixed despite the vast sums of money allocated to fix the problem. 
The people of Flint have now been without clean water for 1,096 days.

Lead levels have now reportedly dropped below federal standards, but the water remains contaminated with bacteria and residents have been advised to only drink bottled or filtered water.

Local and state officials have been accused of failing to do enough to fix the water, causing ongoing health problems due to pipe corrosion. 
The long-term effects to residents’ health have yet to be established..."

Jessica Vander Ark, who works for West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC), spent the week traveling to schools to educate students and teachers on how to make Earth a cleaner place to live.
Second-graders at Central Elementary School, located north of Muskegon, spent the week digging into Earth.
They learned about composting, recycling, landfills and how to sort trash.
Vander Ark, the environmental education director at WMEAC, also educates teachers and students on how to make the switch over to zero waste.
“Teachers are really looking for making big changes with their students as partners,” said Vander Ark.
...The school is taking small steps when it comes to transferring to zero waste. It starts with the kids making the switch from paper to plastic. Eventually, they want the whole lunchroom to start composting and recycling....

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said up to 60 people may have been involved in the brawl, which led to five arrests, including three juveniles.

Action News Jax spoke to a mother of one of the girls who was arrested. 

She says her daughter is a victim.
She said her daughter went to the mall with her friends to watch a movie when people started bullying them.
The mother does not want to be identified but says her daughter was pummeled on a couch in the mall. 

Her 15-year-old daughter was arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer, but the mother insists her daughter is the victim."
