Why will the unemployment extension payments take so long to receive in Michigan?

Why will the unemployment extension payments take so long to receive in Michigan?
"But many are also asking:
Why the big delay in receiving extension payments?"

It's run by the feds and Jenny?
Serious "duh" here.

Michigan is taking longer to get the unemployment extension funds out to their citizens than other states are, -- as much as a month longer.

The unemployed folks who have exhausted their unemployment benefits in New York state will begin receiving funds from the unemployment extension for the week ending November 15th: www.labor.state.ny.us/unemploymentassistance.shtm

Michigan, on the other hand, won't be sending checks out until mid-December, according to the UIA recorded message here: 800-500-0017. We are hit harder by the economy and unemployment than New York state. Some, who have not received a check since early September of this year, may very well go hungry and die. I am one of those who have not received a check since September.

I was unemployed since October of 2007, with a masters degree and great work record. Thousands of resumes sent out with just 2 or 3 interviews over the past 2 years. To no avail. I could save my house and car if I could receive the funds from the extension this week. My mortgage holder wants to begin the 3 trial payments for the Making Home Affordable Program this month, after which time they may or may not restructure the mortgage.

I called to certify with UIA online this week (Wednesday at 3:00pm) and at the end a message read that my certification was received, and if I'm eligible, they state that I would be getting the funds as soon as possible. However, their recorded message estimates no payments until mid-December, as stated.

Why on earth is Michigan taking so long to get these funds out -- when other states are nearly a full month sooner? It does appear as if our troubled state is giving itself a one-month interest-free loan from these funds.

The delay in passing this by the self-serving Republicans in the Senate was unconscionable to me. I was proud to see our Sen. Stabenow fighting so tirelessly for us. The unemployment extension is now fully funded, and this further delay is insufferable.

I feel your pain, brother. Here in Ohio, the next projected payments are slated to go out Dec. 21 -- barring any unforeseen delays, of course. They (the Ohio Dept. of Job & Family Services) managed to get one out one December 2nd. There will be five payments owing at that time for most of us who qualify under the extension. Like most of those in this situation, I am holding on by my fingernails waiting for the bennies to come through. Then, of course, most of that money is already spent on past due bills and living expenses.

This is easily the worst economy I have ever seen! -- And, like you, I have a degree and solid experience and skills, but it's tough to even land an interview, let alone a job. This stinks!

I have been trying to enlist the help of the governor's office and my elected reps for the past few weeks. All I get are some excuses. No action from anybody. Rumor has it that the computer system that ODJFS has is circa 1991! . . Heck they could probably buy $10,000 in equipment that would run circles around that thing!
.
Good luck!
