What should Detroit's new school district be called?:
"Detroit has a new school district — and it needs a new name.
Detroit Public Schools Community District officials, in partnership with 105.9 FM, are inviting members of the public to vote next week on what to call the school district that was launched earlier this summer.
An online poll will be open from Monday through midnight Aug. 21.
"Our cabinet agreed that DPSCD and its students deserve a fresh start," Steven Rhodes, the district's transition manager, said in an e-mail. "Because we are committed to democracy and we want the community to have a voice in decisions moving forward, this naming contest is an appropriate process."
In recent weeks, people submitted suggestions on 105.9's website. The finalists are:
