Robert Reich is one of the Democrat heavy hitters.
His tweet today:
"When this nightmare is over, we need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
It would
- erase Trump’s lies,
- comfort those who have been harmed by his hatefulness, and
- name every official, politician, executive, and media mogul whose greed and cowardice enabled this catastrophe."
He then goes on to say he "loves" that people respond to his tweet as if it were a radical, undemocratic idea, citing the analogy of reconciliation in Nelson Mandela's post-apartheid South Africa.
That argument would be sensible if there were an analogy between America under Trump and South Africa under apartheid.
But pledging the personal destruction of any individual who opposed you politically isn't an American value or a liberal value; it's the stuff of a Putin-class regime.
Reich's advocacy is that of the dangerous, extremist lunatic fringe, but he's not fringe; he's front-and-center for his party."
