Schools Ban Swings Because Everything Is Dangerous
Schools Ban Swings Because Everything Is Dangerous - Hit & Run : Reason.com:
"Schools in Richland, Washington, are phasing out playground swing sets.
According to KEPRTV:
Swings are blamed for the most injuries of any play equipment.
Richland School District already removed them from some campuses and will phase them out of the rest.
"As schools get modernized or renovated or as we're doing work on the playground equipment, we'll take out the swings, it's just really a safety issue, swings have been determined to be the most unsafe of all the playground equipment on a playground," said Richland School District's Steve Aagard.
Before your head explodes, remember that the school district has some very compelling argu... oh wait.
It doesn't.
Of course some kids get hit by swings and of course there are some injuries—even awful ones—but that does not automatically mean we must ban swings.
If it did, we would have to ban all solid food because some kids choke.
We would have to ban all bikes because some kids wipe out and hurt themselves.
We would have to chop down all of America's trees as well—at least in parks and playgrounds—because some children climb them and fall off."

That much is apparent by the intensity of her walk-in speech at a restaurant where she told everyone who was eating chicken “it’s not food, it’s violence.”
Atlas, practically in tears and hysterical, told a story about her “little girl named Snow,” which is a chicken, and how it was abused its entire life.
The animal rights activist is on a campaign to shame all meat and fish and egg eaters to “create a world where animal liberation is a reality.”
As the speech wears on, other members of her crew appear with signs and chant “It’s not food, it’s violence” multiple times.

LIBERTY REVIEW
LIBERTY REVIEW:

September, the president stated that Ebola had very little chance of reaching our shore. A few days later an infected man from Liberia entered the United States. This president has a way of making grand proclamations only to come back later to clarify or state that someone underestimated the reality. Of course, we know it’s never his fault. I suppose this outbreak is the JV form of Ebola.

The director general of World Health Organizations said, “This is a social crisis, a humanitarian crisis, an economic crisis, and a threat to national security beyond the outbreak zones.” Three weeks ago the president declared the outbreak a “national security priority.”

In an op-ed for Salon.com, West blasts Obama for his complicity in worsening the plight of the black community throughout his tenure. "

Former Great Lakes chief Patty Birkholz: 'No silver bullet' for Asian carp after invader's DNA found in Kalamazoo River | MLive.com:
The state Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday, Oct. 7, that one of 400 water samples taken this summer near Allegan showed environmental DNA of silver carp, a strain of Asian carp.
SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP, MI – As the former director of the state Office of the Great Lakes and a long-time legislator who worked to protect the environment, Patty Birkholz said that finding DNA of Asian carp in the Kalamazoo River is a clear warning that trouble could follow.
The eDNA could be scales, tissue, excrement or mucous of the fish, possibly brought here inadvertently on a boat or fishing gear.
Birkholz said that the spread of Asian carp from the Mississippi River watershed has concerned state and federal officials for years, costing millions of dollars.
If the fish reached the Great Lakes, it could devastate the $7 billion fishery.

Poll: Support for gay marriage may be leveling off
Poll: Support for gay marriage may be leveling off | WOODTV.com
A new survey from the Pew Research Center indicates American support for gay marriage could be leveling off.
The study’s authors caution it’s too soon to draw any definitive conclusion. But the new poll released Monday found a 5 percentage point drop since February in Americans who want legal recognition for same-sex relationships.
Last month, 49 percent of Americans said last month they support same-sex marriage, compared to 54 percent in February. The margin of error for the new poll is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
The latest Gallup survey on gay marriage found acceptance of gay marriage was at 55 percent in May, but support was increasing by smaller margins than it had in previous years.

"At 1:30 pm on October 6, 2009, a dozen state and local police converged on Andre Nestor's split-level condo on a quiet, tree-lined street in Swissvale.
He was dozing on his living room couch when the banging started.
“State police! Open up!”
The battering ram hit the door seconds later, splintering the frame and admitting a flood of cops into the house.
Nestor says he started toward the stairs, his hands over his head, when he came face-to-face with a trooper in full riot gear.
“Get on the floor!” yelled the trooper, leveling his AR-15 at Nestor's face.
Nestor complied.
The cop ratcheted the handcuffs on Nestor's wrists, yanked him to his feet, and marched him into the kitchen.
For the next two hours,
Nestor watched helplessly, handcuffed to a kitchen chair, while the police ransacked his neat home. They flipped over his mattress, ripped insulation from his ceiling, rifled his PC.
At about 4 pm, Nestor's roommate, Laverde, arrived home and was arrested on the spot as an accomplice to Nestor's crimes."

$2 BILLION!??? On windmills?!!!------Bill to repeal Michigan renewable standard faces long odds
Bill to repeal Michigan renewable standard faces long odds | Midwest Energy News:
"Despite strong public support for renewable energy expansion in Michigan, three state lawmakers have introduced legislation that would repeal Michigan’s 10 percent renewable energy standard.
State Rep. Tom McMillin, a Republican from suburbs north of Detroit who is term-limited out of office this year, introduced House Bill 5872 on Oct. 1.
It would repeal the section in Michigan’s 2008 renewable energy law that stipulates how much capacity should come from renewable sources by 2015.
The bill is co-sponsored by fellow House Republicans Ken Goike and Ray Franz.
Michigan utilities are on pace to meet the 10 percent standard by the end of next year.
Over the summer, a Senate working group involving lawmakers and stakeholders has studied how the state should move forward once the mandate is reached."
...And while roughly $2 billion was invested since 2009, largely in on-shore wind, Clift said Michigan is also “on the front edge” of an expanded solar industry.

My Way News - Here's the status of gay marriage in all 50 states
On Tuesday, a federal appeals court rejected bans in Idaho and Nevada, which would become the 31st and 32nd states with same-sex marriage if the ruling is not put on hold for the Supreme Court to consider.
The Supreme Court turned away appeals this week that effectively raised the number of states allowing the practice from 19 to 30.
Here's the status of gay marriage in all 50 states:

Inside September’s “Born Again” Jobs Report
Inside September’s “Born Again” Jobs Report | David Stockman's Contra Corner
At the end of the day, the US economy has not generated a single net new job outside of the HES Complex since mid-2001.
There were 107.8 million non-HES jobs then and there were 107.6 million reported last Friday.
Worse still, we are still 1.5 million jobs below the 2007 peak.
Stated differently, during the Greenspan Bubble of 2001-2007, the US economy at least gained several million non-HES jobs from the prior peak.
This time we are still peddling backwards.
You would think that one of these days the labor market expert running our monetary politburo might notice. But you would be wrong.
40% property tax increase!!! Today 12:30-----Editorial Board conversation: Join city of Muskegon officials to discuss Nov. 4 road millage request
Editorial Board conversation: Join city of Muskegon officials to discuss Nov. 4 road millage request | MLive.com:
"MUSKEGON, MI – The MLive Muskegon Chronicle Editorial Board will be conducting a public conversation with city of Muskegon officials concerning the 4-mill property tax for roads on the Nov. 4 ballot.
The Editorial Board will be providing a position on the request to increase the city of Muskegon's annual levy from 10 to 14 mills with the current Muskegon City Commission dedicating the new property tax to road repairs and maintenance.
One mill equals $1 of tax for every $1,000 of taxable value.
The additional mills, if approved by voters, would provide approximately $2 million more per year in revenues to the city.
City officials have estimated that more than $72 million in road repairs are needed in Muskegon to bring all roads and streets up to acceptable standards."

Why is Obama leaving these people to be murdered?------The Siege Of Kobani: Obama’s Syrian Fiasco In Motion
The Siege Of Kobani: Obama’s Syrian Fiasco In Motion | David Stockman's Contra Corner:
"Another humanitarian catastrophe may be just hours away at Kobani.
The latter is the Syrian Kurdish town on the border with Turkey that is now surrounded by ISIS tanks and is being pounded day after day by ISIS heavy artillery.
Already this lethal phalanx, which fuses 21st century American technology and equipment with 12th century religious fanaticism, has rolled through dozens of Kurdish villages and towns in the region around Kobani, sending 180,000 refugees fleeing for their lives across the border.
Self-evidently the lightly armed Kurdish militias desperately holding out in Kobani are fighting the right enemy—-that is, the Islamic State.
So why has Obama’s grand coalition not been able to relieve the siege?
Why haven’t American bombers and cruise missiles, for instance, been able to destroy the American tanks and artillery which a terrifying band of butchers has brought to bear on several hundred thousand innocent Syrian Kurds who have made this enclave their home for more than a century?
Why has not NATO ally Turkey, with a 600,000 man military, 3,500 tanks and 1,000 modern aircraft and helicopters, done anything meaningful to help the imperiled Kurds?"
