There are pivotal moments; events which take place that are so shocking we forever remember where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news. The Space Shuttle Challenger exploding shortly after takeoff was my first unbelievable moment. President Reagan lifted the spirits of the American people. He spoke of the heroes, the American dreamers who lost their lives, “…as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to "touch the face of God." The country was united.

This sort of thing should get a rise out of taxpayers, but the government has continued to stroke that credit card, spending over a quarter of a billion dollars over the past decade on these pumps, many of them purchased fraudulently.

The House and Senate are preparing to vote on the “Achieving a Better Life Experience” (ABLE) Act, a bipartisan bill that establishes tax-favored savings accounts for those with disabilities.
While the idea of these accounts (which would function similar to Roth IRAs) isn’t a bad one, the bill does expand the welfare state, as The Heritage Foundation’s Robert Rector and Romina Boccia note, by eliminating asset tests for “all means-tested welfare programs for families with a child who is eligible for SSI”, the disability program which is run through Social Security, as well as the asset test for “all welfare when disabled children become adults.”
It also exacerbates the marriage penalty, which disincentivizes single mothers from marrying.
Taken as a whole, in a system already throbbing with fraud, Congress is about to incentivize a lot more families to try and qualify for disability.
So how to pay for this expanded entitlement?
A look at the offsets for the ABLE Act is where things get interesting.
The major thrust of the savings lies in a turgid provision buried deep inside the legislative text. The ABLE Act is primarily funded by money taken from prohibiting penis pump purchases until such time as Medicare Part D covers erectile dysfunction drugs to the tune of $444 million dollars. From the description of the act:
Sec. 203. Consistent treatment of vacuum erection systems in Medicare Parts B and D. This provision would prohibit Medicare coverage of vacuum erection systems (VES) until such time that Medicare covers erectile dysfunction drugs under Medicare Part D. When the Part D program was created in 2003, it established a statutory prohibition on erectile dysfunction drugs. CBO estimates that this provision will reduce spending by $444 million.

I’ve been told from numerous sources that the killing of Michael Brown is but another piece of evidence that, in the words of someone on my Facebook page, blacks are ‘hunted’ in this country.

Cops, especially, are roaming the streets executing innocent black men in cold blood, for no reason, and without ever being held accountable for it.
And then out come the statistics:
A black person is killed by a cop every day.
A black man is 20 times more likely to be shot by a police officer.
Law enforcement is responsible for more black deaths than sharks and lightening combined.
And so on.
Unfortunately, these numbers don’t take into account how many of those black people were killed by a cop while trying to kill a cop.
Apparently, in the world of Shocking Statistics Used to Prove a Liberal Argument, such details are somehow irrelevant.
Could it be that a companion study might prove that black males are also 20 times more likely to violently attack police officers?

"Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah.) grilled Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson over his department’s failure to deport four members of a terrorist organization who were captured crossing illegally into the U.S.
During a Tuesday hearing, Chaffetz recalled that Johnson had previously promised four men nabbed crossing the Southern border in early September would be deported. The individuals were thought to have ties to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, an organization designated as a terrorist group by the State Department.
“Did you deport them?” the Utah representative asked Johnson."
