Editorial: Whitmer's sweet deal for state workers bad for taxpayers

Editorial: Whitmer's sweet deal for state workers bad for taxpayers
"...for thousands of state workers, occasional furlough days are turning into a pretty sweet deal.
The shutdown shouldn't be a windfall for state workers who have kept much of their pay, while also seeing much of their workload drop with everyone stuck at home the last two months.
Last month, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that more than 31,000 state employees would take two furlough days per pay period through July 25, “saving” the state about $80 million.
When you delve into the details, however, it’s not a good deal for those taxpayers who aren’t on the state payroll.
Many of these state workers will be making more money while taking their three-day weekends since they can tap the additional $600 a week in federal unemployment assistance, which was part of the CARES Act...

"Looting and destruction in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis cops have left Chicago with new “food deserts” and a worried community.
A local CBS affiliate in the Windy City surveyed the damage to local grocery stores and pharmacies along the South Side this week and found residents dazed and confused about the challenge of finding fresh food.
“Chicago now has food deserts in places that weren’t food deserts before,” reporter Marissa Parra said Wednesday...

CNN host Chris Cuomo is a law school graduate and licensed attorney — but he apparently does not know what the First Amendment says.
Speaking on his show Tuesday, Cuomo rebuked those who "see the protests as the problem" and demanded that riot critics show him where it says demonstrators must protest peacefully.
"Now too many see the protests as the problem. No, the problem is what forced your fellow citizens to take to the streets: persistent, poisonous inequities and injustice," Cuomo said. "And please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful. Because I can show you that outraged citizens are what made the country what she is and led to any major milestone. To be honest, this is not a tranquil time."

FSU football player says team will boycott workouts after coach's statement
"...A Florida State University football player announced he and his teammates will boycott workouts following first-year coach Mike Norvell’s response to the protests over the death of George Floyd...
In a tweet, defensive tackle Marvin Wilson refuted reporting by The Athletic that quoted Norvell saying he had individually spoken with every player.
He called Norvell’s claim a “lie” and said the team was “outraged.”
"This is a lie and me and my teammates as a whole are outraged and we will not be working out until further notice"
Tashan Reed@tashanreed
#FSU head coach Mike Norvell (@Coach_Norvell) had individual conversations with every player on his roster this past weekend focused on the events surrounding the death of George Floyd.
Here's his full quote to @TheAthletic:

There was no one on one talk between us and coach.

Attorney General Bill Barr said Monday that the Justice Department has gathered evidence showing that antifa and “foreign actors” are among the groups responsible for the violence undermining peaceful George Floyd protests.
Barr told reporters during a Thursday press conference that there are three separate sets of people taking part in the protests: peaceful demonstrators, looters, and “extremist agitators who are hijacking the protests to pursue their own separate and violent agenda.”

'We will not be silenced': NFL players send powerful message to league, public in video
"As the video's tone darkens and the music grows, the players call on the NFL to address inequality head-on:
"So, on behalf of the National Football League this is what we, the players would like to hear you state:

  • 'We the National Football League condemn racism and the systematic oppression of black people.
  • We the National Football League admit wrong in silencing our players from peacefully protesting.
  • We the National Football League believe Black Lives Matter.' "

...This week alone has undoubtedly created a tense space where athletes feel like they have no choice but to be seen, heard and understood.
NFL, your move next."

Tank Man: Short Film About Tiananmen Square Hero | MissLiberty.com
"On June 4th and 5th, 1989, the Chinese government violently put down the pro-liberty Tiananmen Square student protest.
One man stood alone against a column of tanks, and for his extraordinary heroism became known as “Tank Man,” though nothing more is known about his identity.
Some say he was arrested and killed, others that he is still in prison in China, and still others that he is alive and in hiding.
Regardless, he has become a symbol for resistance against tyranny.
Tank Man is a powerful short film (15 min.) dramatizing events leading up to his moment of extraordinary courage. He is little known in China, where all images of him have been erased and all mention of him banned.
This film does him some small justice...

This short clip gives more details about Tank Man and what happened to him.

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr., joined the Daily Caller’s Stephanie Hamill to discuss the death of George Floyd, the riots and protests, President Donald Trump’s response and more.
“If anyone would take into proper context the full statement of the prophet Martin Luther King Jr., violence is the voice of the unheard, I will take the path always of nonviolence,” said King. “Martin Luther King Jr. supported nonviolence not violence.”

Today's inconvenient fact:----Scientists Skeptical of Anthropogenic Global Warming

Scientists Skeptical of Anthropogenic Global Warming--Gregory Wrightstone
"Today's inconvenient fact:
There was a "consensus" opinion in the late 20th Century that previous warming periods dating back to the end of the last glacial advance were warmer than our current temps.
This is from the UN IPCC First Assessment Report (FAR):
"A global warming of larger size has almost certainly occurred at least once since the end of the last glaciation without any appreciable increase in greenhouse gases.
Because we do not understand the reasons for these past warming events, it is not yet possible to attribute a specific proportion of the recent, smaller warming to an increase of greenhouse gases."
The images below are from that report (redrawn for clarity)"

Larry Elder: Obama made things WORSE for black Americans — not Trump - TheBlaze

Larry Elder: Obama made things WORSE for black Americans — not Trump - TheBlaze:

Image result for flickr commons images Larry Elder"When you really look at what Donald Trump has done, he has had a concentrated interest in the black community and he's done things specifically, he feels, to help the black community — whether it's economic, whether it's criminal justice reform — whatever it is, he gets absolutely no credit for that," Levin said. "Whereas Obama is treated like, 'Wow, look at all the wonderful things he's done for the black community.' As best as I can tell, he didn't do anything significant for the black community."
"Not only did [Obama] not do anything significant, he made things worse," Elder said.
He went on to review a number of counter-productive actions and statements made by the former president that have been especially damaging to race relations in the United States.
