Black Leaders Hit Brakes on Minneapolis 'Defund Police' Movement, Sign of Things to Come Elsewhere?
"...But though Black Lives Matter, AOC, and other high-profile Democrats have made it clear that no less than 100% defunding and abolishment of the police will do in their cities, there are Black leaders in Minneapolis who are putting the brakes on the whole idea for reasons up until this point were typically only mentioned by critics of the movement to defund police (bolded emphasis added):
“They have shown a complete disregard for the voices and perspectives of many members of the African American community,” said Nekima Levy Armstrong, a civil rights attorney and former president of the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP.
“We have not been consulted as the city makes its decisions, even though our community is the one most heavily impacted by both police violence and community violence.”
...“We have a department that is troubled, but it is also a department that with the leadership of our chief could be really transformed, and the culture of policing could change dramatically if he was given the proper support,” said Herron, who ministers at Zion Baptist Church in north Minneapolis...

It’s A Good Time To Revisit Frederick Douglass’s Famous Independence Day Speech | The Daily Caller:

A gifted orator, Douglass traveled frequently to give lectures on abolition. His “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” Speech, delivered July 5, 1852 in Rochester, New York is among his most famous. Douglass acknowledges the country’s founders as great, brave men who he considers heroes “for the good they did, and the principles they contended for.” Although he unites with other Americans to honor their memory, he also laments the disparity that exists between white and black Americans who did not equally enjoy the benefits that came from the Declaration of Independence.

Mollie Hemingway: Media Has ‘Overstated Their Confidence’ In Mask-Wearing, Using It As ‘Political Cudgel’ | The Daily Caller
"Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway cited the lack of concrete scientific evidence to support widespread mask-wearing to contend that the media has “overstated their confidence” in the practice and are using it as a “political cudgel” against skeptics.
...“Why are the pundits so rankled that President Trump is not a leading proponent of mask-wearing?” Kurtz asked Hemingway.
...“Right, the outrage and shame directed at skeptics of mask-wearing is excessive and almost certainly counterproductive,” Hemingway responded. “The CDC couches the evidence in support of widespread mask-wearing as undetermined.”

Trump proposes 'National Garden of American Heroes' to counter monument protests. Here's who is on the list so far. - TheBlaze:
The president made the announcement during a speech at Mount Rushmore Friday in which he railed against left-wing activists who have been calling for the removal of American statues and monuments in the wake of George Floyd's death.
"Statues are silent teachers in solid form of stone and metal," the executive order reads. "[They] call forth gratitude for the accomplishments and sacrifices of our exceptional fellow citizens who, despite their flaws, placed their virtues, their talents, and their lives in the service of our Nation ... In preserving them, we show reverence for our past, we dignify our present, and we inspire those who are to come. To build a monument is to ratify our shared national project."

"So I had to go to an Australian news source to discover that the driver of the vehicle that sped into BLM protesters in Seattle is an African American.
I have to assume that American media outlets know this, and decided intentionally not to mention it to create the implication that this was a racist murder, rather than a guy driving recklessly on what he thought was an abandoned highway.
I increasingly feel like I'm living somewhere akin to the former USSR, in terms of the way the media are dedicated to a particular narrative regardless of the facts.
At least unlike in the USSR I can access alternative sources to our equivalent of Pravda."- David Bernstein"

California bans singing in church - TheBlaze
California has banned singing in places of worship in the latest COVID-19 pandemic-related restriction. California's Department of Health issued an order Wednesday that temporarily prohibits worshipers from singing and chanting in a church, synagogue, or mosque.
"Even with adherence to physical distancing, convening in a congregational setting of multiple different households to practice a personal faith carries a relatively higher risk for widespread transmission of the COVID-19 virus, and may result in increased rates of infection, hospitalization, and death, especially among more vulnerable populations," the order states.
