The "fruits" of socialism-----Engines idled for Venezuelan race car drivers-and just about everyone and everything else!
"Despite having the world's largest proven oil reserves, Venezuela's socialist-led government has had major difficulties managing the economy.
They grew more acute after the March 5 death of longtime President Hugo Chavez, who won broad support with expensive anti-poverty programs.
Venezuela is now plagued by shortages of foodstuffs, medicines, raw materials and parts.
As a result, local industries have been hamstrung and some production lines have been halted.
Annual inflation is more than 49 percent."

What a concept! Why should the union owned auto companies have to pay for their own research? Let the taxpayers fund it. And have their comrades in Big Education get all the money! What a concept.......University of Michigan to build $6.5M track to test automated cars in Ann Arbor
"The proposed $6.5 million track was approved by the University of Michigan Board of Regents during a meeting in Flint on Friday.
It will be part of the Mobility Transformation Center, launched in May.
With a location on North Campus near the existing water tower, the 30-acre track will be used primarily to test automated vehicles."
The ObamaCare taxi tax
"Never mind nickel-and-diming.
The city is now stooping to nickel-and-pennying.
This week, The Post reported how the city’s taxi drivers are now being charged a new tax of 6 cents — i.e., a nickel and a penny — per ride.
The hidden add-on is supposed to go toward programs that help cabbies figure out ObamaCare (good luck with that one) and for disability insurance “over and above” what medallion owners must already provide.
Six cents a ride may not sound like much.
But for drivers who handle more than 100 fares a week (many get more), it adds up to a new $300-plus annual tax."
Pro-choice, but not for you to choose----- For thousands, keeping your old health insurance policy isn’t an option
WASHINGTON: For thousands, keeping your old health insurance policy isn’t an option | Health Care | McClatchy DC:"Insurers say the cancellations are necessary because the policies fall short of what the Affordable Care Act requires starting Jan. 1.
Most are ending policies sold after the law passed in March 2010.
At least a few are canceling plans sold to people with pre-existing medical conditions.
By all accounts, new policies to replace the canceled ones offer consumers better coverage, in some cases for comparable cost – especially after the inclusion of federal subsidies for those who qualify. "
Free for thee, yet not for me....Universal Service Fund
Jerry Ellig on the Universal Service Fund:Low-income phone subsidies have more than doubled since 2008, rising from $819 million in 2008 to $2.19 billion in 2012.
What happens when these subsidies are offered to lower income consumers without reliable safeguards against waste, fraud and abuse?
Jerry Ellig examines more closely in a recent podcast and paper:

Why should parents have to pay ANY of the costs of raising children?!!
After all, they provide the kid.
Who "provides" the $12,000 per kid to the education establishment.
Who "provides" high pay, high benefit local, state and federal union social service jobs.
Who keeps the police, social workers and jail employees well paid.
With great benefits too!
Haven't the parents done enough?

U.S. debt jumps a record $328 billion — tops $17 trillion for first time

Rape!.....Or just statistically managed bu!!crap?
She Raped Him, Using Guilt and Arguing | The Volokh ConspiracyThe Volokh Conspiracy:"Last week, JAMA Pediatrics published Prevalence Rates of Male and Female Sexual Violence Perpetrators in a National Sample of Adolescents, which promptly hit the news (see, e.g., this USA Today story and this National Geographic story, among many others).
The results, based on a survey of 1058 youths age 14 to 21, were shocking:
“Nearly 1 in 10 youths reported some type of sexual violence perpetration in their lifetime” — that means they had committed sexual violence.
But then one looks closely, and what does one see under “tactics used” (a question asked about the last “perpetration” of “attempted or completed rape”)?
Of the 49 perpetrators, 10 reported that they used physical force or threat of physical force; 10 more reported that they used alcohol, 23 reported that they used “guilt,” and 21 reported that they used “arguing and pressuring victim” (since more than one answer was possible, the amounts add up to more than 49).
So 80% of the reported “rape[s]” involved neither force nor the threat of force, and 59% involved only “guilt” or “arguing and pressuring victim,” with no use of force, threat of force, or even alcohol.
So actually only 1% of the respondents had used physical force or threat of physical force to get sex.
Another 1% used alcohol; this might involve what the legal system would label rape (e.g., getting someone so drunk that they became unconscious and then having sex with them), but certainly need not (e.g., giving someone some alcohol to loosen their inhibitions).
The remainder of the supposed rapists or attempted rapists aren’t really rapists at all.
Ginormous balloon closer to popping------- Federal Reserve Balance Sheet Increases By $50 Billion In One Week, $100 Billion In One Month, $1 Trillion In One Year
Why is this important?
Because as even the Treasury has now admitted, the Fed's daily liquidity injections are all that matters.
Of note: in the just completed week, the Fed's balance sheet increased by over $50 billion (again, in one week), by $100 billion in the past month, and by just shy of $1 trillion in the past year. "
