Ummm, can we change the name of the city.....Wayne County treasurer expects up to 10,000 Metro Detroit properties to be sold in auction
"DETROIT, MI – In the first round of the 2013 Wayne County tax foreclosure auction, when the minimum bid was the back taxes owed on the property, only about 800 properties were sold, Wayne County Deputy Treasurer Dave Szymanksi told MLive.
In the second round, in which the minimum bid is just $500, Szymanski said the treasurer’s office expects about 8,000 to 10,000 properties to be sold.
There are 18,732 properties in the auction, one of the largest land sales in the world."
Pensions live on forever, says Detroit retirees' lawyer
"Detroit's retired municipal workers can never have their pensions legally reduced, even if a disaster makes the city "cease to exist," a retirees' lawyer told a judge."
I lost my HC policy. Barry lied, my healthcare insurance died.-----Thousands Of Americans See Their Health Plans Canceled
"Health plans are sending hundreds of thousands of cancellation letters to people who buy their own coverage, frustrating some consumers who want to keep what they have and forcing others to buy more costly policies.
The main reason insurers offer is that the policies fall short of what the Affordable Care Act requires starting Jan.1.
Most are ending policies sold after the law passed in March 2010.
At least a few are cancelling plans sold to people with pre-existing medical conditions."
Too dumb to be a criminal---Muskegon man charged with marijuana, gun crimes after home alarm draws police
MUSKEGON, MI – Marlon Gene Kelley, a 53-year-old Muskegon man, has been arraigned on felony gun and marijuana-growing charges after a home alarm system sent police to his house.
Kelley was arraigned Monday, Oct. 21, on charges of second-offense marijuana manufacture, firearm possession by a felon and possessing a firearm while committing a felony. He’s charged as a fourth-time habitual offender based on prior felony drug convictions.
The marijuana count is punishable by a maximum of eight years in prison, while the felon-in-possession count -- normally a maximum five-year felony – could draw a sentence of anything up to life in prison because of the fourth-time habitual charge.
....The home was unlocked, police said, so officers went inside and discovered an alleged marijuana grow operation that police said included eight marijuana plants, lights, fertilizer, an exhaust fan, four handguns and one shotgun.
This one actually makes the "Obama Phone" actually look prudent...Foreign AIDs?-----U.S. government-funded study involves paying Mexican prostitutes
It's a real US government study!
Link in the Daily Caller article.
"Though the dollar amounts paid to each prostitute are small — they must remain poor enough to continue in prostitution, of course — the study has already cost nearly $400,000."
Great for rich, government owned, dealers (GM, Chrysler) and new car buyers (government workers) but what about the guy who sells his car on his own and buys a used car...... screwed! ----Michigan car buyers could get a tax break for their trade-in under bills getting jumpstart this week
"But Senate Bill 89 and House Bill 4234, similar measures independently approved by each chamber earlier this year, would gradually change state law by requiring that customers only pay tax on the difference owed."
Muskegon's newest enviro-madrassa charter school combines Montessori methods with environmental research

Money CAN buy happiness! ----Obama quietly sends $1.6 billion to Pakistan
"As previously reported by Examiner.com, Barack Obama personally slashed the annual pay raise for the members of the Armed Forces almost in half last month from 1.8 percent to 1.0 percent.
Citing "serious economic conditions affecting the general welfare" of the nation as his rationale, seven weeks later the same Obama Administration was able to release $1,600,000,000 worth of American taxpayer money to Pakistan, as reported by ABC News on Oct. 19, 2013.
Pick A Number, Any Number...
In an amount of money that never seemed to stop rising, the Department of State initially informed Congress on July 25 that it would require a mere $295 million to send directly to assist in beefing-up the Pakistani military.
Less than two weeks later, the State Department made the announcement that Pakistan's armed forces would acually need $386 million more."
It's not fuzzy. It's a flat out lie! AARP's fuzzy math on Social Security
"The report concludes: "Because of the multiplier effect, every dollar of Social Security paid out translates to almost two dollars in spending in the United States."
Sounds like magic.
But what AARP overlooks is the money pulled out of the economy through Social Security payroll taxes to fund these benefits.
These taxes have what we might call a "divisor effect:"
For each dollar of taxes levied, workers have less to spend, and that reduction is passed on throughout the economy.
If workers spend the same percentage of their incomes as retirees, then the net economic effect of Social Security isn't $1.4 trillion or 9 million jobs.
It's zero.
The AARP report acknowledges that "A net analysis would subtract the economic effects of payroll taxes from those of the benefit payments."
But that acknowledgment comes in a footnote."

Krugman is to Obama as Lysenko was to Stalin-----Much Bigger Than The Shutdown: Niall Ferguson's Public Flogging Of Paul Krugman
Much Bigger Than The Shutdown: Niall Ferguson's Public Flogging Of Paul Krugman - Forbes:
Ferguson calls Krugman and his acolytes out for many, meticulously documented, errors and omissions. And he does not just show Krugman up as wrong but as a blackguard surrounded by a bodyguard of hooligans, all guilty of bullying. Ferguson on Krugman:
Where I come from, however, we do not fear bullies. We despise them. And we do so because we understand that what motivates their bullying is a deep sense of insecurity. Unfortunately for Krugtron the Invincible, his ultimate nightmare has just become a reality. By applying the methods of the historian – by quoting and contextualizing his own published words – I believe I have now made him what he richly deserves to be: a figure of fun, whose predictions (and proscriptions) no one should ever again take seriously.
Detroit Fence Repair Project
Detroit Fence Repair Project
Three contractors are bidding to
fix a broken fence at the Detroit Mayors Mansion.
One is from Grand Rapids, another
is from Lansing, and the third is from Detroit.
All three go with the mayor to
examine the fence.
The contractor from Lansing takes
out a tape measure and does some
measuring, then works some figures
with a pencil.
"Well," he says, "I
figure the job will run about $900. $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and
$100 profit for me."
The contractor from Grand Rapids
also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for
$700. That's $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me."
The contractor from Detroit doesn't
measure or figure, but leans over to the mayor and whispers,
"$2,700."
The mayor, incredulous, says,
"You didn't even measure like the other guys. Besides, how did you come up
with such a high figure?"
The Detroit contractor whispers
back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you,
and we hire the guy from Grand
Rapids to fix the fence."
"Done!" Replies
the mayor, “the job is yours.”
Why climate change is good for the world
"Climate change has done more good than harm so far and is likely to continue doing so for most of this century.
This is not some barmy, right-wing fantasy; it is the consensus of expert opinion.
Yet almost nobody seems to know this. "
HealthCare Dot Commie
"It doesn’t matter if they are conceived in Moscow or inside the Beltway.
All such systems meet the same fate.
Whether imposed by well-meaning but naïve zealots or foisted on the electorate by despots who simply lust after “command” and “control,” they are always holed below the water line by the sheer incompetence of government bureaucrats."
Study: 15 percent of US youth out of school, work

That's almost 15 percent of those aged 16 to 24 who have neither desk nor job, according to The Opportunity Nation coalition, which wrote the report."
