Debate Over Global Warming Is Not Over, Despite Common Core Claims

Debate Over Global Warming Is Not Over, Despite Common Core Claims (Part 2) | Somewhat Reasonable:
The scientific debate over global warming is not over.
According to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, only 20% of likely U.S. voters believe the scientific debate about global warming is over, while 63% disagree and say the debate still continues, and 17% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
Neither is it true, despite numerous news reports, that 97% of scientists agree human activity is causing a climate crisis that demands we move on to government directed “solutions” to the crisis.
...A sure sign that the push by government and other environmental organizations isn’t working, despite frantic efforts to convince the American people that global warming if unchecked will produce all manner of future catastrophic happening for Mother Earth, is that advocates of global warming have started to call for the arrest and punishment of those they label as climate-change liars.

"Gen. Hossein Salami, the Guard’s deputy leader, told Iranian state television that allowing foreign inspection of military sites is tantamount to “selling out,” raising the stakes as talks between Iran and the six-nation group are to resume April 22 in Vienna.

“We will respond with hot lead (bullets) to those who speak of it,” Salami said. “Iran will not become a paradise for spies. We will not roll out the red carpet for the enemy.”

EPA Tells Kids to Avoid Baths and Asks them to Check Toilets for Leaks

EPA Tells Kids to Avoid Baths and Asks them to Check Toilets for Leaks | Somewhat Reasonable
Parents across America who struggle to keep their young rambunctious kids clean now have a new obstacle: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
As part of its effort to help save the planet from the dangers of taking too many baths, the EPA’s WaterSense program is trying to convince kids they should avoid bathtubs in favor of showers, which it says is a far more efficient use of water.
“To save even more water, keep your shower under five minutes long—try timing yourself with a clock next time you hop in!” the WaterSense for Kids” website says.
In addition to convincing kids to stay away from the tub, the EPA’s website instructs children to be careful not to give plants or the yard too much water, to ask parents to use car washes that recycle used water, and to avoid using hoses whenever possible.

Watch: Reporter Gets Fed Up With State Dept. Spokeswoman During Press Conference and Calls Her Out | TheBlaze.com:

"Acting State Department spokesman Marie Harf had several snippy exchanges with reporters on Monday, as she dodged questions about the Iran nuclear agreement and an allegedly corrupt former contract employee at the department.

The first incident happened when one reporter asked Harf how State is able to stop Iran’s destabilizing behavior in other Middle East countries without engaging with Iran on this issue. Harf said State has sanctions and other tools, but said she agrees with the reporter that “it’s a challenge.”

White House Fears 'President Cruz' Will Overturn Exec Amnesty - Breitbart:

“Our first 100 days we spent a lot of time signing executive orders undoing what [President George W.] Bush did, and I would like not to be sitting on a beach somewhere reading about President [Ted] Cruz doing that to us, so it’s very important to us,” Pfeiffer told the Wall Street Journal on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Pfeiffer declared that Obama’s executive amnesty was one of the reasons that made 2014 a “year of great progress” for the “progressive agenda.” He told the Journal that from the “perspective of advancing our agenda through our pen and our phone, this has been a tremendously successful year.”

It's not just a healthy drug, it's the cure for EVERYTHING!!----Some seek to legalize, tax pot to help state, communities

Some seek to legalize, tax pot to help state, communities
....Yet state and federal lawmakers are loathe to raise taxes.(HUH?!!)
Enter marijuana.
Coast to coast, there's green glowing in the eyes of those who'd reap tax bonanzas from marijuana, and it's not from the pot.
It's from the color of money.
"Let's face it — this is one of the last places, aside from printing money, that we're going to find more money" for government spending, said Matt Marsden, spokesman for a Pontiac-based group of Republicans called the Michigan Cannabis Coalition.
The group hopes to start circulating petitions by June calling for the legalization of marijuana, said Marsden, 41, of Clarkston.
The Pontiac coalition is one of three groups pushing ballot proposals to legalize marijuana in Michigan.
Each is aiming for the November 2016 election, and each is hyping the tax dollars they'd collect.
In a sign of changing political times, two of the three groups are driven by Republicans, traditionally not the ones who push for new taxes.
..."Our proposal is not about pot.
It's about the revenue and jobs that are going to be created," said Marsden, a former legislative staffer for Republican state and congressional lawmakers.
To that end, the group he represents calls its proposal the Michigan Cannabis Control and Revenue Act.
...The coalition would earmark revenue for "three specific areas of the budget — education, public safety and public health," he said...

Detroit poop converter. What could possibly go wrong?------With new machine, Detroit Zoo aims to turn waste into power

With new machine, Detroit Zoo aims to turn waste into power - Crain's Detroit Business
The Detroit Zoo is headed for greener pastures with its plan for the first biodigester at a U.S. zoo.
The $1.1 million project will convert the 400-500 tons of manure and other organic waste produced annually at the zoo into methane-rich gas to power the 18,000-square-foot Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex.
...Two renewable-energy grants totaling $27,000 from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. funded a two-part feasibility study conducted by Michigan State University's Anaerobic Digestion Research Education Center.
...And the MEDC has committed up to $100,000 for the project through the Public Spaces & Community Places program, which provides matching grants for public space projects supported through online crowdfunding platform Patronicity
It plans to chip in $100,000 from its 2015 capital budget and has $100,000 grant proposals in to the Michigan Energy Office and the Department of Environmental Quality.
.....Currently, the zoo collects organic waste in a truck that's much like a trash hauler and transports it to Detroit Dirt for composting.

Dude, where's my calendar?---National Weed Day: 420 marijuana ‘holidaze’ is literally going to pot

National Weed Day: 420 marijuana ‘holidaze’ is literally going to pot - National Holidays | Examiner.com:
"Have you heard the latest "buzz?"
According to a KRDO report published on April 18, a “highly” anticipated global event is almost here and folks around the world are ready to celebrate. (Parents and baby-boomers take note – your kids may know more about this occasion than you do!)
This annual holiday is going to pot – literally. April 20 is one of the most popular “holidaze” celebrated by marijuana enthusiasts far and wide.
It’s National Pot Smokers Day, also “refer-ed” to 420, 4/20 Day, National Pot Smoking Day, Weed Day or National Smoke Weed Day (you get the drift, right?)

Just in case you are wondering where “420” got its name, you aren't alone.
While the origins of this "holiday" are a bit, well, foggy, National Pot Smoking Day celebrates Cannabis sativa and there is some debate as to the origins of the term "4/20."
.....But most “experts” believe the term was actually coined by a group of pot-smoking teens from San Rafael High School back in the 1970s. 420 served as a reminder to the group, who called themselves the Waldos, as to the time they were to light up - 4:20 - just in case they forgot!
Today the occasion occurs on April 20, the 20th day in the fourth month of the year and many light up at exactly 4:20."

Stonewalling!!---Michigan's corporate welfare program needs to be more transparent

Michigan's corporate welfare program needs to be more transparent [Mackinac Center]:
"The Detroit News reports on the lack of transparency from Michigan’s corporate welfare program.
“Michigan taxpayers are on the hook for giving 96 percent of nearly $9.4 billion in tax credits to companies in the vaguely named ‘transportation’ sector, but a state agency that doles out the job-retaining incentives refuses to disclose the revised amounts owed to individual companies,” the article notes.
Reporter Chad Livengood notes that deals in the past were more open to the public than today and quotes the Mackinac Center's James Hohman:
"It's a huge expenditure of taxpayer dollars of which no one is allowed any details," said James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, a [free market] think tank in Midland.
"A company's estimated tax credit amount has always been disclosable."
The Mackinac Center has documented the lack of openness from the MEDC about how they spend taxpayer money with nearly 200 articles, including in a 2009 policy brief “MEGA, the MEDC and the Loss of Sunshine.”"

As Detroit water shutoffs are set to resume, nearly all on payment plans have fallen behind

As Detroit water shutoffs are set to resume, nearly all on payment plans have fallen behind | Blogs | Detroit Metro Times:
"With tens of thousands of Detroit residents on the cusp of losing their water service last year, Mayor Mike Duggan announced a payment plan he claimed would prevent a flood of shutoffs in the city.
The plan, introduced last August, worked like this: Residents in arrears could enter into a two-year plan by paying down 10 percent of their past-due balance.
While paying the payment plan, the resident would have to continue covering their monthly bill, as well.
If the resident missed a payment, they would then have to pay 30 percent of their balance to keep their water tap running; another missed payment, they'd have to pay 50 percent of the balance.
A fourth missed payment?
You're out of luck and your service would be disconnected.
By all accounts, the "10-30-50" plan hasn't worked.
Curt Guyette, an investigative reporter for the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, reported Saturday that nearly all residential accounts set up with a payment plan are 60 days past due, which, by definition of the Detroit Water & Sewerage Department, means they're at risk for shut-offs."

"More on the California exodus to Texas from Forbes:

The point is that, while Californians understand their state is actively hostile to most businesses, many simply believe that’s a penalty companies, entrepreneurs, CEOs and employees are — and should be — willing to pay to live in the greatest place on earth.

So when California splendor proved not to be enough to keep Toyota happy in Southern California any more, after a 57-year stay, it rocked the state’s foundations as surely as any tremor along the San Andreas Fault."
