Now they're coming for your furnace!!-----New DOE rules on home furnaces could see savings go up in smoke

New DOE rules on home furnaces could see savings go up in smoke - Watchdog.org:
"The Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 have given the Department of Energy the authority to regulate the efficiency of residential gas furnaces.
The DOE has decided to move forward with a proposal to update such rules, pushing a mandate for furnace manufactures to increase burn efficiency from 78 percent – set in 1992- to 92 percent.
...More specifically, they question the DOE’s assertion that “left to their own devices, consumers underestimate the projected energy savings from buying a more efficient furnace...”

How have we fallen so far?

How have we fallen so far?
Is it philosophically wise to dwell upon the morality of government?
Are we frivolous and diverted from more serious concerns?
Should we be reading poetry, watching TV, playing golf or listening to Mozart?
A discussion of the morality of government is more than an intellectual exercise.
It has to do with understanding force and raw political power hidden behind the cleverest of disguises.
...More and more, we are beginning to feel the presence of authoritarianism.
We are coerced into conformity and obeying the demands of “society.”
We quite naturally feel oppressed.
We know that there is deceptive manipulation of the public will.
We know that subtle political forces are extracting our wealth and crushing our liberties under altruistic pretenses.
Political power in the United States is reckless.
The political system is nothing less than mob rule.
Private property is pillaged and destroyed, and the people are manipulated to support it.
There is no “consent of the governed.”
...The agenda of government morality is to erase man as a rational individual, transfer his psyche into the programmed crowd with prescribed thinking of the herd mentality and “correct” behavior (or correct his behavior), then program his mind so that any influence outside of government morality is hostile environment.
The common herd mentality is a product of government force, though it is contrary to man’s nature, his personal desire to acquire wealth and security, and his requirements for happiness.
In February 2002 I wrote in The Bob Livingston Letter, (www.boblivinstonletter.com, subscription required),
“Christians, in your smugness, arrogance, conceit and materialism, the time will come when you may be considered ‘a terrorist’ if you claim your faith, belong to a patriotic group or even a pro-life organization.
My friends, we are there.
I take no pleasure in being correct.

Debt puts U.S. on same road as Greece, Puerto Rico

Debt puts U.S. on same road as Greece, Puerto Rico | MLive.com:
"Greece is on the brink as the realities of its debt crisis manifest themselves to ordinary citizens.
According to Greek news sources, ambulances have stopped operating in some areas, law enforcement agencies are running out of spare parts as sellers demand cash upfront, and Greek citizens' access to bank accounts is restricted by banks.
Meanwhile, closer to home, the U.S. protectorate of Puerto Rico says it will run out of money within months.
The governor is working with Congress to pass legislation allowing for Puerto Rico to declare bankruptcy.
Our elected officials in Washington, D.C., are continuing to journey down the same path that left Greece and Puerto Rico in such dire straits.
Our federal government has borrowed $18.2 trillion to keep pace with spending demands and at least another $70 trillion is owed for future entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare.
Our national debt now equals 101 percent of our Gross Domestic Product, and interest on that debt costs about 7 percent of annual federal spending -- more than Washington spends on the Departments of Transportation and Education combined.
Yet, as long as paying for unsustainable spending can be postponed beyond the next election and foisted on future taxpayers, the borrowing continues.
This country's future is at risk...

Liberals Now Want to Eliminate Words "Husband" and "Wife" from Federal Law...

Liberals Now Want to Eliminate Words "Husband" and "Wife" from Federal Law... » Louder With Crowder:
"Yes, it’s exactly what you’ve just read in the title.
More than two dozen Democrats have come together and proposed a bill to totally remove the words “husband” and “wife” from United States federal law.
No word yet on “pitcher” or “catcher.”
Why?
Because, they are ‘gendered’ terms.
That’s right.
The left wants to replace them with more ‘gender neutral’ terms, like “married couple” or some other non-offensive term… which is sure to actually become an offensive term a short while later.
After all, it would be discriminatory toward the constitutional right of same-sex marriage now… I think.
I’m not quite sure.
So the argument here seems to be that by not being inclusive in all of our terminology…we’re hurting gay people?
The terms ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ aren’t hateful, they’re just reserved for people who actually are husbands and wives.
Why is this a thing?
I’ll tell you why.
For the same reason that “cis-gender” is now being pushed as the politically correct term, as opposed to the once accepted word… “normal.”
The SJW left wants to see “husband and wife” done away with because there is no other way to make “husband and husband” seem as run-of-the-mill.
See, even though same-sex marriage is legal, it’s still far less common.
Statistically it’s not even close.
It will always be seen as “abnormal” or “atypical” by its very definition.
Even though the law has changed, that’s not enough.
The current social engineering requires leftists to change public perception of reality.
Same-sex marriages are rare, so we need new terminology to make it seem not-so-rare.
Make sense?
It shouldn’t."

Sunday read-We will perish without such courageous citizens-----A Trapdoor to a Tale of Nazi-Era Sacrifice

A Trapdoor to a Tale of Nazi-Era Sacrifice - WSJ
On Dec. 6, 1942, 10 German soldiers marched into Rekówka, a Polish village 90 miles south of Warsaw.
They’d received a tip from some locals that two families, the Skoczylas and Kosioróws, were sheltering Jews.
When the Germans apprehended the families in their shared house, all but four of its inhabitants were at home.
The soldiers spotted a trapdoor in the kitchen, which opened to a small, but empty, hiding place.
They demanded that the families reveal the whereabouts of the stowaways, but nobody would talk.
The soldiers took them to the barn behind the house, locked them inside and burned them alive. When two of the boys tried to escape, they were shot in the back.
Almost 72 years later, in August 2014, a cultural investigator named Jonny Daniels lifted that trapdoor for the first time since the surviving family members sealed it off years ago.
He lowered himself down a ladder into a dark, damp space, with no light source and a floor covered with straw.
He didn’t know it at the time, but he had uncovered the only known World War II hiding place for Jews that has remained intact and undisturbed since the end of the war.
(I've added the entire article below)
On Thursday, after a year of negotiations and research, the space became an official heritage site in Poland, the only one of its kind. The hope is that by featuring the haven, shadows cast over Poland in the wake of the war will be lightened by the humanity of families like the Skoczylas and Kosioróws.
A great-grandson of Holocaust survivors, Mr. Daniels is the founder of “From the Depths,” a nonprofit organization that locates tombstones poached from Jewish cemeteries to pave roads or construct walls, in an effort to weave back together the torn tapestry of Eastern European Jewish life. Mr. Daniels and his team were working in the town of Zwoleń in 2014 when they heard rumors about a Polish family in a nearby village whose members had sacrificed themselves for the Jews they hid.

Mr. Daniels looked into the site’s history. The entire Kosiorów family burned in the barn, but the descendants of the surviving Skoczylas sons live on the farm today. Martin Skoczylas, the 33-year-old grandson of one of the survivors, showed Mr. Daniels the spot, and recounted that all 10 Jews hiding in the basement were miraculously absent for the raid—they would leave on occasion to look for food in the woods. After that day in 1942, no one knows what became of them. Mr. Skoczylas and his family later assumed they had seen the barn fire and fled.

“It is my dream,” Mr. Skoczylas said, “that we will be able to find and meet descendants of the Jews that they saved.” An unlikely scenario, given the three years they would have had to survive before the war ended, but the family is still hopeful. “My family helped Jews, but did not expect anything in return,” said Mr. Skoczylas. “They did not think about the danger involved or the possible consequences.”

Such an act of self-sacrifice might seem stunning today, but others did the same. Sir Nicholas Winton saved 669 children by sending them by train from Prague to London before the borders closed in 1939, but his story came to light only when a family friend leaked it to the BBC in 1988. Later that year, he was featured on an episode of BBC’s “That’s Life!” When the show’s host asked the studio audience, “Is there anyone here who owes their life to Nicholas Winton?” everyone rose. He died earlier this month at age 106, and there are a reported 6,000 descendants of the children he saved.

Rafał Nadolny, the conservator of monuments in Poland’s Mazovia province, hurried along the paperwork. “I think that this kind of place, which is a material trace of the events surrounding the Second World War, deserves special protection and . . . future generations will be able to personally touch such a site.” (In 1999, a similar space was unearthed behind a cupboard in a Warsaw flat and registered with the conservation office, but tenants destroyed it in 2013 and faced up to 10 years in prison.)

Mr. Skoczylas is as eager to share his family’s story as he is overwhelmed by its emotional repercussions. When Mr. Daniels invited Mr. Skoczylas into the crawl space last year, he was met with hesitation and then a no. “It was too heavy for them,” Mr. Daniels remembers. “Martin came down a few steps but then went right back up, his face was white.”

The tension felt by the Skoczylas family, Mr. Daniels explained, bubbled over in 2012 when President Obama referred to a “Polish death camp” during a ceremony at the White House honoring the late Jan Karski, a hero of Polish resistance to the Nazis. Mr. Skoczylas bristled at the statement: “Doesn’t he know so many people were killed here because they helped the Jews?”
Read it all.
Grab a hankey and marvel at their courage.

"Major misstep"?!!!----The Hillary Clinton Lies That Escape Press Scrutiny

The Hillary Clinton Lies That Escape Press Scrutiny:
"...You might expect at least one of these discrepancies to have come up in Clinton’s much-anticipated interview with a bona fide member of the press corps this week, but CNN’s Brianna Keilar failed to note that a variety of assertions Clinton made in March have since proven dubious.
So why wouldn’t the former secretary continue to mislead?
“I’ve never had a subpoena,” Clinton contended when asked about her decision to delete 33,000 allegedly personal emails.
“...Everything I did was permitted,” Clinton further averred. “There was no law. There was no regulation. There was nothing that did not give me the full authority to decide how I was going to communicate.”
“...In reality, Clinton’s decision to use a private e-mail system for official business was highly unusual and flouted State Department procedures, even if not expressly prohibited by law at the time,” the Post’s fact-checkers admonished.
“Moreover, while she claims ‘everything I did was permitted,’ she appears to have not complied with the requirement to turn over her business-related e-mails before she left government service.
That’s a major misstep that she has not acknowledged.” Clinton earned three out of four “Pinocchios” for this particular fib.
At some point, the political press has to tire of being used and underestimated by Hillary Clinton. Until that time, she will continue to flagrantly mislead the press and the public, making a mockery of the journalistic profession in the process."

Sanctuary Policies Have Led to Thousands of Crimes

Sanctuary Policies Have Led to Thousands of Crimes:
What seems to have been overlooked in the back and forth on this is some of the very disturbing, actual data on crimes committed by illegal aliens, which should concern every American—particularly those who live in sanctuary cities like New Orleans or San Francisco that release criminal aliens rather than turning them over to the Department of Homeland Security.
As Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Study outlines, Department of Homeland Security records show that in just one eight-month period in 2014, more than 8,100 deportable aliens were released by sanctuary jurisdictions.
Three thousand of them were felons and 62 percent had a prior criminal record.
Nineteen hundred were later rearrested a total of 4,300 times on 7,500 different offenses.
Thus, these sanctuary policies directly victimized thousands of the residents of these sanctuary cities who were subjected to assaults, burglaries, sexual assaults, thefts and even murders that would not have occurred except for these sanctuary policies.
But there is more.
In 2005, at the request of several members of Congress, the Government Accountability Office prepared two reports on criminal aliens—legal and illegal—in prison for committing crimes in the United States.
Those reports are very revealing.
For example, the first report (GAO-05-337R) released on April 7, 2005, found that:
The percentage of federal prisoners who are criminal aliens is about 27 percent;
In 2004, there were 49,000 such prisoners in federal jails;
In 2002, the federal government gave reimbursements to the 50 states under the “State Criminal Alien Assistance Program” (SCAAP) for incarcerating another 77,000 illegal aliens in state prisons; and
At the local level in 2002, the federal government reimbursed 750 local governments under SCAAP for incarcerating an additional 138,000 criminal illegal aliens, which jumped to 147,000 prisoners in 2003.

OECD Report: U.S. one of the most indebted nations in the world

OECD Report: U.S. one of the most indebted nations in the world - Watchdog.org:
"Greece is making headlines lately for its debt crisis, but the United States isn’t that far behind when it comes to federal debt.
According to a new report released by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) the United States ranks number six on the list of the most indebted advanced economies in the world.
In 2007, the ratio of debt-to-Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the U.S. was under 76 percent. By 2014, the U.S. debt-to-GDP ratio rose to an astonishing 122.6 percent.
Unfortunately, this measure does not take into account unfunded obligations such as Social Security or Medicare, so the situation is arguably much worse than this report indicates. But it is still pretty dire.
The only countries that top the U.S. when it comes to debt-to-GDP are Greece (181 percent), Italy (156 percent), Portugal (149 percent) Belgium (129 percent) and Ireland (127 percent)..."

20 years of cleaning up NYC pissed away

20 years of cleaning up NYC pissed away | New York Post:
"Here’s an up-close look at a quality-of-life offense the City Council wants to decriminalize.
This urinating vagrant turned a busy stretch of Broadway into his own private bathroom yesterday – an offense that would result in a mere summons if Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and her pals get their way.
Wrapped in rags and a Mets blanket the hobo wandered into traffic at around 10:30 a.m. and relieved himself as cabs, cars and buses whizzed by between West 83rd and 84th streets on the Upper West Side.
He finished his business at a nearby garbage bin, then strolled back to the front of a Victoria’s Secret store at Broadway and 85th Street, where he camped out for the rest of the day.
Mark-Viverito in April announced plans to decriminalize public urination along with five other low-level offenses: biking on the sidewalk, public consumption of alcohol, being in a park after dark, failure to obey a park sign and jumping subway turnstiles.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton — who in the early ’90s implemented a “broken windows” approach to policing to dramatically cut crime — is against the new plan, saying such offenses lead to more serious crimes.
...“It reminds me of the pre-[Rudy] Giuliani era,” said Jim Hoover, 60, who has been commuting through Penn Station since 1986.
20 years of cleaning up NYC pissed away“The police aren’t chasing them away anymore.”
Just outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal, a homeless man drunkenly knocked a woman to the floor while stumbling around the sidewalk.
The bum, who goes by “Monk,” was arrested by a cop at the scene and taken away by an FDNY ambulance.
“He’s going to get a hospital bed and a slap on the wrist,” said Timothy Arroyo, who was watching from a crowd that gathered.
“He’ll be back out here tomorrow.”
A PA source said there has been a “noticeable uptick” in vagrants at the terminal in recent months.
“It’s a trend,” the source said."

"Folks, do not ignore me on this.  This is exactly what's going on.  That's why this whole notion of Clinton referencing it here again, and you heard Christie say it when he announced his presidential run, all this idea, the notion of crossing the aisle and cooperating and bipartisan? That's not what they're interested in.  They don't want cooperation! The only way there's going to be tolerance is if we cave.  By cave, I mean cave.  It's not just enough to agree.  You have to become one of them, or you are going to be targeted and harassed until you do.

NATO missile system hacked remotely by ‘foreign source’ | Pamela Geller
Tick tock, tick tock ….
One commenter articulated the catastrophic implications this way: “The implications of this allegation from the German Magazine are horrific.
If it is possible to ‘remotely’ access the command and control system of a Patriot system deployed operationally in the field then it stands to reason that someone can do the same to similar air defense systems deployed. Such implications surely will now require urgent attention from various governments / agencies currently investigating a number of high profile aviation accidents which to date appear to have defied logic and resulted in confusion for all parties alike.”

patriot missible system
A Patriot missile system stationed in Turkey by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was allegedly hacked by a remote source, according to reports. German magazine Behörden Spiegel said this week that the hacked missile system is owned and operated by the German Army. It was deployed along the Turkish-Syrian border in early 2013, after Ankara requested NATO assistance in protecting its territory from a possible spillover of the civil war in neighboring Syria.
The Patriot surface-to-air missile system was initially built for the United States Army by American defense contractor Raytheon in the 1980s, but has since been sold to many of Washington’s NATO allies, including Germany. The Patriot system consists of stand-alone batteries, each composed of six launchers and two radars. The radars, which are aimed at spotting and targeting incoming missiles, communicate with the launchers via a computer system. The latter was hijacked for a brief period of time by an unidentified hacker, said Behörden Spiegel, adding that the perpetrators of the electronic attack managed to get the missile system to “perform inexplicable commands”. The magazine gave no further details....
