We're #2!!!-----Illinois is now the biggest food-stamp user in the Midwest

Illinois is now the biggest food-stamp user in the Midwest | Illinois Policy | An independent government watchdog:
illinois_food_stamps"Illinois and Michigan have traded places on two key metrics for measuring prosperity and opportunity, and both changes are embarrassing for the Land of Lincoln.
...In March of this year, Illinois bumped off Michigan to become the Midwest’s No. 1 user of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps.
For the past several years, Michigan had a higher percentage of its residents on food stamps than any other Midwest state.
But not anymore.
Illinois now has a higher portion of its population on food stamps than any state in the Midwest."

Here comes the bill: Dems seek lifetime ID protection for hacked workers

Here comes the bill: Dems seek lifetime ID protection for hacked workers | Washington Examiner: "Democrats in the House and Senate have proposed legislation that would provide free, lifetime identity protection to the millions of people who had their personal information stolen through the Office of Personnel Management.
It's not yet clear how much that proposal would cost, but based on OPM's recent mitigation efforts, it could easily climb into the hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars.
Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., offered the bill last week, on the same day OPM announced that a total of 22.1 million people were hit in two separate data breaches. The Democratic members reacted immediately by saying lifetime coverage is needed.
"Private-sector cyberhacks and cyberattacks have become too commonplace, but when the federal government's own computer system shows its vulnerabilities to the world, we have a responsibility to protect the people who have been put at risk," Cardin said.
"Off-the-shelf solutions are not good enough.
We need to plug the holes in the federal network and make sure our workers, their families and all those who have been violated are held harmless from any damage that may be done.""

16 reasons nuke deal is an Iranian victory and a Western catastrophe

16 reasons nuke deal is an Iranian victory and a Western catastrophe | The Times of Israel:
Has Iran agreed to ‘anywhere, anytime’ inspections, an end to R&D on faster centrifuges, and the dismantling of its key nuclear sites?

No, no, and no

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday unsurprisingly hailed the nuclear agreement struck with US-led world powers, and derided the “failed” efforts of the “warmongering Zionists.”
His delight, Iran’s delight, is readily understandable.
The agreement legitimizes Iran’s nuclear program, allows it to retain core nuclear facilities, permits it to continue research in areas that will dramatically speed its breakout to the bomb should it choose to flout the deal, but also enables it to wait out those restrictions and proceed to become a nuclear threshold state with full international legitimacy.
Here’s how:"

Alabama Civil Rights lawyer's epic rant: Media targeted Confederate flag because Charleston didn't riot

Alabama Civil Rights lawyer's epic rant: Media targeted Confederate flag because Charleston didn't riot - Yellowhammer News:
Confederate Battle FlagAlabamian and Civil Rights attorney Temple Trueblood took to Facebook Thursday to share her thoughts on how, and why, the media has targeted the Confederate battle flag in the wake of the Charleston shooting.
Her brilliant insight is already going viral, with thousands of shares from her personal Facebook page.
Without further ado:
I’m a Southerner. I’m a civil rights lawyer. I’ve stayed out of this fray and, to be honest, I’m really tired of the whole media frenzy.
With that said–taking out soapbox…pontificating….
The media did not get what it wanted from the South as a result of the Charleston tragedy. The good people of Charleston did not riot, did not engage in hateful shenanigans and did not provide the racist fueled fodder for their 24 hour-a-day headlines.
Poor, poor media–no Ferguson, no Trayvon Martin, no Oscar Grants. Instead, the good people of Charleston and of South Carolina unified and came together–all races, all creeds. They marched hand in hand to pay respect to the poor souls lost and to strengthen their community.
In short–they did what Southerners do. They put their faith forward and did the right thing ‘cause their mommas raised them right.
So, what are they left to do? Well, the Confederate flag seems like a fine substitute–and it worked.
Now, don’t get me wrong; I don’t think the Confederate flag has any place flying over any governmental building for several reasons:

Chicago's Financial Fire

Chicago's Financial Fire by Aaron M. Renn, City Journal July 12, 2015:
"After years of warnings, financial reality is hitting home in Chicago, clouding Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s hope for a transformational legacy.
In March, Moody’s downgraded the city’s credit rating to junk, but Chicago’s financial hole long predates its ratings slide.
The trouble began emerging at least as far back as 2003, albeit under the radar.
Then, as the Great Recession pummeled municipal budgets around the country, former Mayor Richard M. Daley engaged in dubious deals, such as the city’s parking-meter lease.
In 2010, as Daley’s tenure neared its close, Crain’s Chicago Business published an exposé on the troubling levels of debt that the mayor’s administration had accumulated.
In 2013, after Daley had left office, the Chicago Tribune ran a series further detailing the city’s questionable debt practices, such as “scoop and toss”—that is, rolling over debt at higher cost as it came due, rather than paying it off.
Chicago’s pension woes, along with Illinois’, started attracting media coverage—as did financial can-kicking by agencies like the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), which drained its reserves in 2012 and created a 2015 budget showing 14 months of revenue (“loopy,” said the Tribune).
So for several years now, the media have been telling Chicagoans that there’s a financial crisis.
But it hasn’t really felt like one, at least not in the booming Loop and on the North Side."

Jake and Josie Hook Up Drunk. Does Josie Rape Jake?

Jake and Josie Hook Up Drunk. Does Josie Rape Jake?
Jake and JosieThis poster about the new “yes means yes” consent laws has allegedly been showing up on college campuses (Redditor: The blurry part says Coastal Carolina University, I cannot find any mentions of this poster actually being real though. It’s possible they took a lot of flak for it and pulled it, or I just can’t google)
In summation: the poster presupposed “Jake” to be a rapist.
Why? Because two college kids were drunk and two college kids hooked up. This begs the question: how was Josie the only one who could not consent to sex… but Jake could?
If a woman who is intoxicated can not give consent to sex, how can a man? Why is only one of them a rapist?
It’s almost as if leftists pushing the “rape culture” talking point aren’t actually concerned with combating sexual assault at all. It’s almost as though they’re more concerned with using sexual assault as another divisive issue to play Americans off of each other in order to push a political agenda. Because you can’t have an honest disagreement with “affirmative consent” or even just this poster.  If you disagree with the premise, you are pro-rape and a rape apologist, who is most likely also sexist and trying to hold back Hillary Clinton from crashing through the glass ceiling #YesAllWomen.
At least Reddit is calling BS, and making some interesting points (at least, the ones we can repeat):
What happens if two gay dudes get drunk and have sex? Are they both charged with rape?
Neither would be charged. According to the poster, only women can’t give consent while drunk.
If two drunk lesbians have sex, were they both raped?
They were both the rapist and rape victim. It cancels out, its simple math.
I mean potential energy is just as important as kinetic energy, right? The potential to rape is just as important as actual rape, right? They’re practically the same thing.
So does this mean that as a woman, I’m no longer accountable for anything I do once I’m drunk? Because there are definitely some illegal things I wanted to try. Also, DUI’s? I guess those don’t exist either then, since we’re on the “blame it on the alcohol” train here.
Rape is a serious crime and rapists are the lowest form of life.
Combating rape is a serious issue for serious people to take seriously.
The sad thing is, the people who designed and are promoting this poster think it’s serious and that they’re serious people.
The only thing they’re doing is a serious disservice to rape victims. And that’s no joke.

People Who Identify as Vampires Shouldn't Be Judged, Study Says

People Who Identify as Vampires Shouldn't Be Judged, Study Says | National Review Online
Stop being so judgmental.
Sociology researchers are now insisting that we as a society start accepting people who choose to “identify as real vampires” — so that they can be open about the fact that they’re vampires without having to worry about facing discrimination from people who might think that that’s weird.
The study, titled “Do We Always Practice What We Preach?
Real Vampires’ Fears of Coming out of the Coffin to Social Workers and Helping Professionals” was conducted by researchers from Idaho State University and College of the Canyons and the Center for Positive Sexuality in Los Angeles.
“Most vampires believe they were born that way; they don’t choose this,” said Dr. D. J. Williams, the study’s lead researcher and the director of sociology at Idaho State.
The study is based on the experiences of eleven “real” vampires — which, by the way, are different from “lifestyle vampires.”
“Lifestylers,” the study explains, are people who just do things like wear fangs and sleep in coffins as lifestyle choices, and although “real vampires” may do these things too, they all also have one major thing in common that distinguishes them from the “lifestylers:”
...“The message is to not take things at face value, to be more aware of our stereotypes and our judgments, maybe focus on commonalities that people have,” Williams said in an interview with MTV.
“People understand themselves in very different ways, and that’s OK.
We’re all human.
We all have a lot of things in common.
I think a little more awareness of our own biases and more cultural sensitivity — more compassion — that’s really the important thing underlying all of this,” he said.

The Revenge Of The Lost Boys

The Revenge Of The Lost Boys
"What’s going on with young American men?
Another mass shooting has led to another round of social and political recriminations.
A young man—a “loner” and “adrift,” as usual—seizes a vile cause and attacks innocent people.
Amidst the wreckage, we look for reasons that already fit our preconceptions about violence, and we blame racism, guns, unemployment, drugs, a bad family, or whatever else helps us to make sense of the tragedy.
But the truth of the matter is that Dylann Roof (at least from what we know) isn’t that different from so many other young, mostly white men over the past 30 years or so who have lashed out against their society in different ways.
Although mass killers understandably seize our imaginations and dominate the media, and not all dysfunctional young males are violent and not all of them gain the publicity they crave.
Some are terrorists, others are murderers, and some are merely vandals.
A few are traitors and deserters.
What they all have in common is their gender (male), their race (most are white), and their youth (almost all under 30 at their peak destructiveness).
Beyond this, they seem to share little beyond a stubborn immaturity wedded to a towering narcissism. In almost every case, they dress their anger in the clothes of ideology: white supremacy, jihad, hatred of abortion, or anti-government paranoia.
Stuck in perpetual adolescence, they see only their own imagined virtue amidst irredeemable corruption.
In a typical sentiment, Roof wrote before his rampage that “someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me.”
This is the battle cry of the narcissist, and we’ve heard it before.
Western societies are producing more and more of these Lost Boys, the fail-to-launch young men who carry weighty social grudges.
Some of them kill, but others lash out in other, more creative ways: whether it’s Edward Snowden deciding only he could save America from the scourge of surveillance, or Bowe Bergdahl walking away from his post to personally solve the war in Afghanistan, the combination of immaturity and grandiosity among these young males is jaw-dropping in its scale even when it is not expressed through the barrel of a gun..."
