"Doctors and medical staff have confirmed that at least seven boys, aged between 14 and 16, have been raped inside the so-called ‘Jungle’ migrant camp in Calais.
In four of the cases the boys had been abused so brutally they required surgery.

Medical volunteers based near Calais made the revelations to the Independent.
They said that all of the boys had injuries consistent with the crimes they had reported.

After years of promoting “Clean Diesel” as an alternative to hybrid and electric vehicles—the company even marched on Washington with a squadron of Audi TDI models—Volkswagen is stewing in its own toxic vapors. Here’s our handy guide to what’s happening.
In the test mode, the cars are fully compliant with all federal emissions levels. But when driving normally, the computer switches to a separate mode—significantly changing the fuel pressure, injection timing, exhaust-gas recirculation, and, in models with AdBlue, the amount of urea fluid sprayed into the exhaust. While this mode likely delivers higher mileage and power, it also permits heavier nitrogen-oxide emissions (NOx)—a smog-forming pollutant linked to lung cancer—that are up to 40 times higher than the federal limit. That doesn’t mean every TDI is pumping 40 times as much NOx as it should. Some cars may emit just a few times over the limit, depending on driving style and load.

What happened?
Volkswagen installed emissions software on more than a half-million diesel cars in the U.S.—and roughly 10.5 million more worldwide—that allows them to sense the unique parameters of an emissions drive cycle set by the Environmental Protection Agency. According to the EPA and the California Air Resources Board, who were tipped off by researchers in 2014, these so-called “defeat devices” detect steering, throttle, and other inputs used in the test to switch between two distinct operating modes.
Which cars are affected? Will my car pass state inspection?
The following Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche diesel models have been cited by the EPA for emissions violations. There is no recall and the cars pass all state inspections, at least for now. Remember, VW has admitted to violating federal emissions laws, and as such, it’s neither a state nor a safety issue. However, if Volkswagen does issue a recall, some states (particularly California and some that follow Partial Zero Emission Vehicle standards) may prevent owners from renewing their registration if they don’t complete the fix.

The FBI seized control of Clinton’s server in August, just after the intelligence community’s inspector general flagged “Top Secret” emails that traversed the device.
Clinton housed the server at her New York residence during her State Department tenure.
She hired Bryan Pagliano, a staffer on her 2008 presidential campaign, to manage the system.

Sometime late last year Pagliano began cooperating with FBI investigators in exchange for immunity.
That suggests the possibility that criminal charges are on the table for Clinton or some of her State Department aides who sent her classified information that landed on the server.
But Clinton and her supporters have downplayed the FBI’s investigation — which the candidate has called a “security review.”
Clinton herself has, at times, even attempted to laugh off questions about her email habits and the ongoing inquiry.

There are only so many ways to describe the bananas-type of game it was.
And somehow, through the highest of highs, and lowest of lows, Waseca came out on top 103-100 because of a running, leaning 3-pointer from Cole Streich.
I don’t care what college or pro game you were watching last night.

The Iraqis who built the dam structure for the Mosul dam warn that the structure is “increasingly precarious” and threatens to kill 1 million people.
They also said the government’s answer has been ridiculous.
The Mosul Dam is the largest dam in Iraq, providing electricity for the 1.7 million residents of Mosul. However, it has a long record of instability.
Built in an unstable geological setting, the earthen embankment dam is located on top of gypsum, a soft mineral which dissolves in contact with water – a recipe for disaster.
Leaks began right after the dam was built in 1986, with 24 machines continuously pumping grout into the dam base.
More than than 50,000 tonnes of material have been injected, but did little to stabilize the structure.
A September 2006 report by the United States Army Corps of Engineers noted, “In terms of internal erosion potential of the foundation, Mosul Dam is the most dangerous dam in the world.”
Now, the engineers responsible for building the structure in the first place warn that the situation is reaching critical levels, after winter snows melted and more water flowed into the reservoir, raising pressure.
After the city was more or less under the control of the Islamic State, the injection machinery wasn’t operated anymore and the maintenance crew was dissolved.
The government was slow in reacting, and while negotiations with an Italian construction firm for carrying out urgent repairs is being discussed, no agreement has been reached.

"Rogers didn’t give many specifics, but said that the sluggish economies of China, Japan and countries in Europe will eventually contribute to additional congestion state-side. But if you look in the correct places, Rogers said there are already several signs that a recession may be in the near future for the U.S. economy.
“If you look at the … payroll tax figures [in the U.S.], you see they’re already flat,” he said. “Don’t pay attention to the government numbers, pay attention to the real numbers.”
Rogers made a similar claim in February, telling CNN that a global recession is “just around the corner.”

Emily Johnson is seeking $1 million in damages for injuries she sustained in July 2009 when she fell after stepping into an 18-inch-deep hole dug by a city maintenance worker who was trying to fix a broken sprinkler head the previous day.
The worker said he marked the hole with an orange cone, but the cone was gone when Johnson fell the next day..."

"A new study out of the University of Washington provides the strong evidence that certain popular drugs may increase the risk for dementia in older adults.
The drugs share some common mechanisms within key areas of the brain, but are used primarily as ingredients in over-the-counter sleep, cough and cold, and allergy medicines as well as in the treatment of an overactive bladder and depression.

Mayor Bill de Blasio tried to put a positive spin on the 20-plus knife and razor attacks that have wracked New York City since last November—suggesting that people are turning to cutting weapons because the NYPD has been so successful confiscating their guns.
Speaking at an unrelated event in Manhattan, the liberal mayor praised his police force for bringing down the overall violent crime rate and netting numerous illegal firearms, and argued the spike in slashings might be an unintended consequence of those efforts.
A Bronx Dunkin’ Donuts owner became the latest New Yorker to take a blade to the face yesterday, after a homeless man she had ejected from her business earlier returned seeking revenge.
“Increasingly, they are getting at the supply of guns,” Mr. de Blasio said, noting shootings are down, and attributing the success to the Gun Violence Suppression Unit.
“I’m not a criminologist, but I can safely say that guns are being taking off the street in an unprecedented way.
Some people, unfortunately, are turning to a different weapon...”
