4 Steps Facebook Is Taking to Crack Down on ‘Fake News’

4 Steps Facebook Is Taking to Crack Down on ‘Fake News’
"Facebook announced Thursday an aggressive plan to combat so-called “fake news,” giving users more power to report hoaxes and empowering fact-checking outlets as arbiters.
...“We’ve focused our efforts on the worst of the worst, on the clear hoaxes spread by spammers for their own gain,” wrote Adam Mosseri, Facebook’s vice president of product management for news feed, in a blog post announcing the changes Thursday.
Here’s the skinny on Facebook’s four steps for cracking down on “fake news”:
1) It’s now easier to report “fake news”
Facebook is giving its users an option to flag a post they believe needs scrutiny.
You’ll be able to click the top right corner of a post to report it as a hoax....
2) Fact-checking organizations will be arbiters

Electoral College death threats won’t be the last bid to overturn the election | New York Post

Electoral College death threats won’t be the last bid to overturn the election | New York Post:

"So bitter are American liberals that they may go down as the sorest losers since the invention of democracy. They’re apt to try anything to overturn voters’ decision.

Certainly Election Day didn’t stop them, even though the Electoral College outcome was unambiguous, a landslide indicating that Donald Trump had secured 306 electoral votes to the 232 won by the Democratic nominee.

To the losers, that was a mere sideshow — something to be overturned somehow, anyhow."

Senate Quietly Passes The "Countering Disinformation And Propaganda Act"

Senate Quietly Passes The "Countering Disinformation And Propaganda Act" | Zero Hedge
"While we wait to see if and when the Senate will pass (and president will sign) Bill  "H.R. 6393, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017", which was passed by the House at the end of November with an overwhelming majority and which seeks to crack down on websites suspected of conducting Russian propaganda and calling for the US government to "counter active measures by Russia to exert covert influence … carried out in  coordination with, or at the behest of, political leaders or the security services of the Russian Federation and the role of the Russian Federation has been hidden or not acknowledged publicly,” another, perhaps even more dangerous and limiting to civil rights and freedom of speech bill passed on December 8.
Recall that as we reported in early June, "a bill to implement the U.S.’ very own de facto Ministry of Truth has been quietly introduced in Congress.
As with any legislation attempting to dodge the public spotlight the Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act of 2016 marks a further curtailment of press freedom and another avenue to stultify avenues of accurate information.
Introduced by Congressmen Adam Kinzinger and Ted Lieu, H.R. 5181 seeks a “whole-government approach without the bureaucratic restrictions” to counter “foreign disinformation and manipulation,” which they believe threaten the world’s “security and stability.”
Also called the Countering Information Warfare Act of 2016 (S. 2692), when introduced in March by Sen. Rob Portman, the legislation represents a dramatic return to Cold War-era government propaganda battles..."

Records: 95 Detroit poll books missing for several days

Records: 95 Detroit poll books missing for several days:
"Detroit elections officials waited several days to deliver nearly 100 poll books to Wayne County officials charged with certifying the presidential election, newly released documents show.
County clerk officials on Thursday released a memo to State Elections Director Chris Thomas that said 95 poll books from the 662 precincts weren’t available at the start of the canvass, which began the day after the Nov. 8 election.
Five of those poll books, which contain the names of voters and ensure the integrity of elections, were never delivered to county canvassers and presumably remain missing.
The revelation comes atop other irregularities that have prompted a state audit.
Among other issues, The Detroit News reported this week that voting machines registered more votes than they should have in one-third of all city precincts..."

It's Official: Clinton's Popular Vote Win Came Entirely From California | Stock News & Stock Market Analysis - IBD:

"now that all the votes are counted, Hillary Clinton's lead in the popular vote has topped 2.8 million, giving her a 48% share of the vote compared with Trumps 46%.

To those unschooled in how the United States selects presidents, this seems totally unfair. But look more closely at the numbers and you see that Clinton's advantage all but disappears.

As we noted in this space earlier, while Clinton's overall margin looks large and impressive, it is due to Clinton's huge margin of victory in one state — California — "

Did Facebook Just Kickstart the Real Infowar? - The Daily Beast
"In an effort to combat the spread of fake information, the social-media giant is stifling intentional fake-news writers while sparking a fight with people who view such a move as censorship.
Image result for censorshipFacebook detailed a new plan Thursday to target the rapid spread of fake news across its site, a phenomenon that received renewed attention in the weeks following the 2016 election, with accusations that it may have influenced the behavior of voters.
...Now the move from the internet’s largest social-media platform has some intentional fake-news writers, who created their websites to “satirize” right-wing conspiracies or exploit Facebook’s algorithm, believing they’ll soon be out of business.
But the new program also has conspiracy theorists, ones who believe Hillary Clinton’s fictitious ties to the occult are the “real news,” excitedly drawing battle lines over the future of the news on social media.
Should Facebook’s fact-check initiative take off and result in censorship of propagandist sites, editors at websites like Infowars and alt-right leaders insist it will only reinforce the belief that certain ideas are being suppressed in favor of facts from mainstream outlets.
One editor told The Daily Beast the Facebook plan proves that now the “‘Infowar’ isn’t a cliché, it’s perfectly apt.”..."

Fossil Fuel is “Green Energy” - Principia Scientific International

Fossil Fuel is “Green Energy” - Principia Scientific International
"We have today one of the most astonishing examples of a regression in scientific education.
It used to be common knowledge and taught in schools at all levels that carbon dioxide (CO2) is a vital, airborne plant food, but it is currently being condemned as being a “pollutant” because many people have come to believe, due to a massive disinformation campaign, that higher levels of this plant food would be harmful to the biosphere.
co2
So pervasive, so effective is this ongoing disinformation campaign that it is now considered by many to be a moral imperative for humanity to abandon the use of its primary source of energy—burning hydrocarbons—because doing so produces CO2.
Let me say that again.
So pervasive, so effective has been the campaign that has demonized CO2—the gas that feeds the biosphere—that it is now generally accepted that humanity has a moral obligation to limit its production of it, even if doing so would cause a profound regression in global economic development!
They say that they have “science” on their side but do they?
Let’s review what science “knows” and what it doesn’t.
Science knows that plants using the energy present in sunlight through a process called photosynthesis combine carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) to form carbohydrates (CH2O) and expel free oxygen (O2)—the food we eat and the oxygen we breathe.
What does the word “carbohydrate” mean?
Carbo – refers to carbon
Hydrate – refers to water
The chemical formula is well known and is often taught in elementary or middle school.
CO2 + H2O + photons → [CH2O] + O2

This is a chart of what science knows about historic, optimal and current levels of atmospheric CO2 in parts per million.
The dark green line at 4,000 ppm is where the CO2 level have been in the Earth’s distant past when plant growth was much more robust and dense forests covered much of the Earth’s surface.
The light green line at 1200 ppm is where the CO2 level needs to be for optimal plant growth.
The bottom yellow line at 400 ppm is the current atmospheric concentration of CO2.
True scientific knowledge is based on empirical experimentation and extensive scientific experimentation has demonstrated that ~1200 ppm is the optimal CO2 level for robust plant growth. So well-established is this knowledge that owners of greenhouses spend a lot of money pumping CO2 into their greenhouses to achieve CO2 concentrations in excess of 1000 ppm in order to augment the rate at which they can grow their produce.
Never the less for some odd reason many people have come to believe that it is a moral imperative to keep CO2 levels from returning to that level..."

Islamism in Europe

Islamism in Europe:
  • Ironically, those who dare to speak out against extremists either face severe consequences, such as death threats, or are called anti-Muslim bigots. This kind of response often discourages progressive voices from speaking out, and understates the progress of counter-extremism even within the Muslim community. Opposition voices still might be there -- more than ever. They just go underground.
  • Since the unprecedented terror attacks in France, Belgium and Germany, citizens across the Europe have been living in constant fear. They seem to be sick and tired of the Muslim extremists; children might be in danger on their way to school, and shopping takes place under the protection of soldiers.
  • With Brexit, the election of Donald Trump, and Italy's referendum, there seems to be a snowball effect. The growing influence of Alternative for Germany (AfD), the National Front in France, the Party for Freedom in the Netherlands, the Freedom Party Austria and the Five Star Movement in Italy all appear to be byproducts of the same rhetoric.
  • The dull reaction of a vast number of European Muslims to the rising wave of terror and violence has also contributed to this shift. Increasing numbers of native-born Europeans seem angry and distrustful of their fellow Muslim citizens, especially when everyone else has come out loud and clear in denouncing terrorist crimes.
German authorities and those across Europe seem finally to be strengthening their campaign against the militant far-right, including Muslim extremists, during the past few weeks.

Image result for Islamism in EuropeThis awakening, however, seems to be coming after a major price that Europe had to pay in terms of death and chaos unleashed by terrorists in Germany, Belgium, France, Denmark, and so on.

Governments across the Europe seem to be switching into panic mode to prevent the rise of European radicalism through the rise of the far-right, racism and nationalism throughout the entire continent.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel sounds as if she is backing down a bit from championing the influx of migrants and her slogan of "We can do it!" in developing a multicultural society. She not only vowed to Germans in an address last week that the migrant crisis must never be repeated; she also called for an all-out ban on the full-face veil covering in Germany.

Following Merkel's lead, Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière also proposed a partial ban on veils, and pronounced them contrary to assimilation.

The dramatic shift in policy might be a consequence of the planned and perpetrated acts of terrorism by extremist Muslims, many of whom are the migrants on whom Merkel placed her hopes. It might also be the result of the resultant rise of European neo-Nazis. More likely, it would appear to come from an eye to re-election..."

WaPo Op-Ed: Christian Celebration of the Virgin Mary is Hurtful to Rape Victims

WaPo Op-Ed: Christian Celebration of the Virgin Mary is Hurtful to Rape Victims | Mediaite:
"The Washington Post published an op-ed Friday by a pastor who complained that the annual Christmastime celebration of the Virgin Mary was hurtful to her as a rape victim.
“Our culture of purity celebrates the Virgin Mary.
As a rape victim, that hurts me,” wrote Rev. Ruth Everhart, complaining that, “Church culture tends to be fixated on sexual purity year-round, but during Advent, I’m tempted to blame it on the Virgin Mary.
After all, she set an impossibly high bar. Now the rest of us are stuck trying to be both a virgin and a mother at the same time.
It does not seem to matter that this is biologically impossible.
Everhart said that after being raped at gunpoint at the age of 20, “every Advent I feel a sense of kinship” with the Virgin Mary.
“I know what it’s like to be a good girl whose life got upended by what someone did to her body.”
“Still, I study her this time of the year — always dressed in blue with downcast eyes — and want to ask: ‘How was it really? And how do you feel about what the patriarchy has done with you?'”
“Mary is not responsible for what we’ve done to her story.
Church culture has overfocused on virginity and made it into an idol of sexual purity.
When it comes to female experience, the church seems compelled to shrink and distort and manipulate,” Everhart argued."

Planned Parenthood referred to FBI for criminal charges

Planned Parenthood referred to FBI for criminal charges:

"Several Planned Parenthood affiliates have been referred by a Senate committee to the Department of Justice for investigation and possible prosecution for their involvement in a baby body parts trade that was exposed in 2015 through a video sting operation.

The videos contained interviews with Planned Parenthood and other abortion industry officials in which they negotiated over the price of the body parts of aborted infants, one famously suggesting higher pay because, “I want a Lamborghini.”"
