Peeps on Television: 20 Shows Starring Marshmallow Peeps | Mental Floss

Peeps on Television: 20 Shows Starring Marshmallow Peeps | Mental Floss:

1. DOWNTON ABBEY

This diorama is titled The Peeple of Downton Abbey by Tonya and Angela of Maplewood, Minnesota. The dollhouse-inspired scene shows four different rooms with marshmallow characters.
The entire cast is lined up for their portrait in this version called Peepton Abbey by Caroline Chase, Valerie Boyle, and Daniel Boyle. There were more Downton Abbey scenes in Peeps than I could keep up with, but you can see a couple more good ones here and here.

2. THE WALKING DEAD

The gruesome AMC show The Walking Dead makes a great diorama with the help of raspberry jelly and red licorice. This scene by Loren Sciurba of Alexandria shows Shane escaping a hoard by shooting Otis and leaving him to distract the zombies.

16. THE TWILIGHT ZONE

The classic Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" starring a very young William Shatner inspired this Peeps scene by Allie Berg and Jonathan Herr in 2009. The black and white effect is part of the work; this was not altered after the photograph was taken.

Breaking: Rush Limbaugh Reveals Proof That Obama "Weaponized ________" - Conservative 101:

"Now that charges against former President Obama are escalating, conservative radio legend Rush Limbaugh dug deeper into the scandal and revealed how Obama abused his power to target Donald Trump and other Americans.

Stated Rush recently on his program, “The Obama administration chose surveillance targets knowing that they would be talking to specific Americans, wanting to see what those specific Americans were talking about. So while they couldn’t get a FISA warrant to target Americans, they purposely targeted for surveillance foreign actors that they knew Trump transition people would be talking to and learned what they were saying that way"

Margaret Sanger Isn’t Who You Think She Is | American Center for Law and Justice

Margaret Sanger Isn’t Who You Think She Is | American Center for Law and Justice:

"20th Century Hero.  World Changer. True Visionary.

These are just a handful of the descriptions from Planned Parenthood of its founder, Margaret Sanger.

The abortion giant celebrates its founder, heralding her as ahead of her time and a trailblazer for women’s equality.  They shutdown any critique of her by claiming that her nearly century-old quotes are taken out of context to promote modern political positions.

Planned Parenthood has featured fact sheets on their website that praise Sanger for “changing the world, forever and for the better” and claim that anyone who questions her “worldwide renown, respect, and admiration” must have an anti-woman agenda. (Though curiously, the direct links to these documents have recently been removed from Planned Parenthood’s website. As recently as September, they were included on the list of Fact Sheet Reports. Today, they are clearly missing from the list.)"

JustOneMinute: Chatting With Fish About Water

JustOneMinute: Chatting With Fish About Water
"When is something that looks like "reflexive partisanship" actually a reflection of the viewer?
Ah, well.
Here is James Hohmann of the WaPo, April 11:
The Daily 202: Reflexive partisanship drives polling lurch on Syria strikes
THE BIG IDEA: More Americans than ever view the news through red-colored glasses.
Image result for "reflexive partisanship"In 2013, when Barack Obama was president, a Washington Post-ABC News poll found that only 22 percent of Republicans supported the U.S. launching missile strikes against Syria in response to Bashar al-Assad using chemical weapons against civilians.
A new Post-ABC poll finds that 86 percent of Republicans support Donald Trump’s decision to launch strikes on Syria for the same reason. Only 11 percent are opposed.
-- Overall, a bare 51 percent majority of U.S. adults support the president’s action in our new poll. In 2013, just 30 percent supported strikes. That swing is driven primarily by GOP partisans. For context, 37 percent of Democrats back Trump’s missile strikes. In 2013, 38 percent of Democrats supported Obama’s plan. That is well within the margin of error.
Independents are split evenly, with 46 percent backing Trump’s decision and 45 percent opposing it.
Har de har, those partisan rubes on the Republican side! Joining in the merriment and self-congratulatory backslapping were Kevin Drum and Steve Benen at MSNBC. Benen:
On Syria, ‘reflexive partisanship’ doesn’t apply to both parties
And Drum:
Republicans Love Bombing, But Only When a Republican Does It
Each delivers a deep data dive by, hmm, recycling the same info presented in the WaPo. Here is Benen's thoughtful analysis of the Republican swing from 22% supporting strikes to 86%:
That’s an astounding shift in attitudes, and partisan instincts almost certainly explain the rapid change. Republican voters opposed Obama, so they had no use for his plan to attack the Assad regime, and Republican voters generally back Trump, so they support last week’s strikes.

But look a little closer at the details, and the asymmetry between the parties becomes more obvious: four years ago, 38% of Democratic voters backed Obama’s proposed strikes in Syria, and now, 37% of Democratic voters support Trump doing the same thing. In other words, there’s been effectively no change.
No change in their views even though we have a new President Democrats have vowed to resist and the Obama deal with Putin on Syria has collapsed? That's not counterintuitive and worthy of explanation?..."

Worth your time-----I Know You’re Mad at United but… (Thoughts from a Pilot Wife About Flight 3411) – The Pilot Wife Life

I Know You’re Mad at United but… (Thoughts from a Pilot Wife About Flight 3411) – The Pilot Wife Life:
"If there’s one thing I have learned over the years, it’s that there are always two sides to every story.
On April 9th, a very unfortunate incident played out on United Flight 3411, the video of which has since gone viral causing a mass social media uprising with an ‘off-with-their-heads’ mentality.
I mean, across the board.
Image result for ual friendly skiesFire ’em all and let the gods sort it out later.
Look, I get it.
When I first saw the video I was appalled too.
To say that it was inflammatory would be putting it mildly.
But it was also a situation that was escalated far beyond the boundaries of necessity.
...I’m not here to dispute the facts of 3411 with you.
I am not interested in getting into an argument of opinion with anyone.
We’re all entitled to our own.
I’m not arguing that what happened wasn’t completely terrible–it was, on multiple levels. But I am suggesting that the general public take another look at the situation, ask a few more questions, gather a few more facts, and then create a less hostile and more intellectually wrought opinion about what happened.
Because the media is giving you just enough information to keep you enraged–enough to keep their ratings up.
Things to consider:
1) “You can’t just kick a paying customer off the plane!” Psssst! It’s in the fine print. They can, indeed, do just that..."

Outrage!!-----20 Places in U.S. Where Women and Girls at Risk for Female Genital Mutilation – Tennessee Star

Nashville-Murfreesboro-Franklin Metro Area One of Top 20 Places in U.S. Where Women and Girls at Risk for Female Genital Mutilation – Tennessee Star: "
Image result for Female Genital MutilationTennessee outlawed female genital mutilation (FGM) in 1996, but 2013 data collated in a Population Reference Bureau (PRB) report, shows that the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin Metropolitan Statistical Area is ranked 20th in the country for the potential risk of FGM being performed on women and girls.
Tennessee is number 18 in overall state rankings for risk to women and girls from FGM.
...“Female genital cutting refers to all procedures involving partial or total removal of female genitalia or other injury to female genital organs for any cultural, religious or otherwise nontherapeutic reasons.
This practice is common in many refugee populations, particularly those from East Africa (i.e. Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan), although the practice is pervasive throughout the world.
This controversial practice is considered a human rights violation by many, and it is illegal in the United States in people under 18 years of age.” "

Excerpt:Tom Clancy's "Executive Orders".

Amazing how today's context and a forgetful memeory can bring out a totally new read.
This is from Tom Clancy's "Executive Orders".
The 2nd of a 2 part Jack Ryan series.
The two were published 1994-1996 during the Clinton administration and BEFORE 9/11.
Interesting how the party out of power and the media are portrayed in the 1990s.
Amidst today's N Korea fears.
President Ryan in blue, on phone with foreign leader:
“…And now you threaten me?
Mr. President, I understand the stress which has come to you of late, but, please, you may not treat sovereign countries in this way.”
“Prime Minister, then I will speak very clearly.
An overt act of war has been committed against the United States of America.
Any interference with, or attack on, any part of our military will be deemed a further act of war, and whatever country commits such an act will face the most serious possible consequences.”
“But who has done this to you?”
“Prime Minister, that is not your concern unless you wish it to be.
Executive Orders (A Jack Ryan Novel, Book 8) by [Clancy, Tom]I think in the interests of both your country and mine, it would be well if your navy returned to port forthwith.”
“And you blame us, you order us?”
“I began with a request, Prime Minister.
You saw fit to evade my request three times.
I regard that as an unfriendly act.
And so I have a new question: Is it your desire to be at war with the United States of America?”
“Mr. President—”
“Because if those ships don’t move, Prime Minister, you will be.”
The pencil snapped in Ryan’s hand.
“I think you may have associated yourself with the wrong friends, Prime Minister.
I hope I am incorrect, but if my impression is correct, then your country could well pay dearly for that misjudgment.
We have experienced a direct attack on our citizens.
It is a particularly cruel and barbaric attack, utilizing weapons of mass destruction.”
He enunciated these words very clearly.
“This is not yet known to our citizens.
That will soon change,” he told her.
“When it does, Prime Minister, those guilty of launching that attack will face our justice.
We will not send notes of protest.
We will not call a special meeting of the UN Security Council in New York.
We will make war, Prime Minister.
We will make war with all the power and rage this country and her citizens can muster.
Do you now understand what I am saying?
Ordinary men, women, and now even children have been murdered within our borders by a foreign power.
There has even been an attack upon my own child, Prime Minister.
Does your country wish to be associated with those acts?
If so, Prime Minister, if you wish to be part of that, then the war commences now.”
End of chapter.

Gee, just what we need.
Communism for Kids, written by a German author who specializes in political theory and “queer politics,” was released last month.

America's liberal madrasas-----Wellesley College Newspaper Editorial: We Must Punish 'Problematic' Thought Crimes With 'Hostility' - Guy Benson

Wellesley College Newspaper Editorial: We Must Punish 'Problematic' Thought Crimes With 'Hostility' - Guy Benson:
"Behold, the perfectly creepy and Orwellian capstone to a week of campus insanity and inanity, courtesy of the dim bulbs who populate the editorial board of Wellesley College's student newspaper.
I've employed that ad hominem descriptor for two reasons:
First, their argument is a logical train wreck, but that's par for the course with anti-speech tyrants.
Second, a compounding sin: It's horribly written.
Their prose is truly and embarrassingly atrocious.
It's as if a group of mostly-literate sixth-graders joined forces to whip up a self-important harangue, straining and failing to evince erudition.
The resulting product is a jumble of incoherence that should theoretically humiliate the "elite" all-female institution that (a) admitted these students, and (b) cultivated this sort of thinking -- and I use that term loosely.
A taste:
Image result for college double thinkWellesley is certainly not a place for racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, transphobia or any other type of discriminatory speech. Shutting down rhetoric that undermines the existence and rights of others is not a violation of free speech; it is hate speech. The founding fathers put free speech in the Constitution as a way to protect the disenfranchised and to protect individual citizens from the power of the government. The spirit of free speech is to protect the suppressed, not to protect a free-for-all where anything is acceptable, no matter how hateful and damaging… We have all said
problematic claims, the origins of which were ingrained in us by our discriminatory and biased society. Luckily, most of us have been taught by our peers and mentors at Wellesley in a productive way.

It is vital that we encourage people to correct and learn from their mistakes rather than berate them for a lack of education they could not control. While it is expected that these lessons will be difficult and often personal, holding difficult conversations for the sake of educating is very different from shaming on the basis of ignorance. This being said, if people are given the resources to learn and either continue to speak hate speech or refuse to adapt their beliefs, then hostility may be warranted. If people continue to support racist politicians or pay for speakers that prop up speech that will lead to the harm of others, then it is critical to take the appropriate measures to hold them accountable for their actions. It is important to note that our preference for education over beration regards students who may have not been given the chance to learn.
The first bolded sentence is really quite special because it makes the case that shutting down 'offensive' rhetoric amounts to hate speech..."

I Feel Sick, Because The U.S. Is On The Verge Of Making An Extremely Costly Mistake
"...Right at this moment, we are closer to war with North Korea than we have been at any point since the Korean War ended in 1953.
If Donald Trump decides to launch a military strike against North Korea’s nuclear facilities, the consequences could be absolutely catastrophic.
The North Koreans have already promised to launch nukes at South Korea and at U.S. military bases in the region in return, and they also have vast stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons that they could use as well.
To get an idea of the chaos that just a handful of North Korean agents armed with biological weapons could unleash inside the United States, just see this article
A military strike on North Korea could be the spark that sets off a global war in which millions of people die, and so we need to do all that we can to prevent this from happening.
My hope is that if people make enough noise that Trump will back down and decide not to attack.
Earlier today, I was sent the following piece of intel.
I was told that I could share it with all of my readers as long as I kept the name of the individual that sent it to me out of it.
According to this source, it certainly looks as though an attack is being prepared…

The “Resistance” Democrats are a Terrorist Party | Frontpage Mag:

"What does #Resistance really mean? It means the overthrow of our government.

In this century, Democrats rejected the outcomes of two presidential elections won by Republicans. After Bush won, they settled for accusing him of being a thief, an idiot, a liar, a draft dodger and a mass murderer. They fantasized about his assassination and there was talk of impeachment. But elected officials gritted their teeth and tried to get things done.

This time around it’s “radically” different."

Is My Yoga Cultural Appropriation? What to Do About It.—The Huffington Post, February 9, 2016.

Catholic college in Kansas wipes ‘yoga’ from names of classes — it’s a Hindu thing.—The Kansas City Star, yesterday.
Image result for Cultural AppropriationAnd note these mocking paragraphs in the Star’s article:
College spokesman Stephen Johnson said that starting this fall, both recreational classes and for-credit exercise classes that once taught yoga will likely still be taught the same way, but instead will be rebranded as “lifestyle fitness.”
“We’re changing the name,” Johnson said.
The move to recast the practice of yoga, with positions like upward dog and downward dog, into classes of more generic stretching and breathing exercises has landed the college of 2,000 students in something of a doghouse.
Yes, to borrow a line popular at Faber college, they f***ed up; they trusted the SJWs, hoping that appeasement would sate the beast.
