Hanson's response left no room for misquoting:

His actual argument: the bombs were used to force a Japanese surrender and avoid planned invasions of Japan's home islands in late 1945 and early 1946 — invasions Hanson says military planners projected would cost 𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, extrapolated from the brutal, 12,000-dead Okinawa campaign alone.
