Human health impact and cost estimates attributed to endocrine disrupting chemicals not evidence-based | Science Codex:
Image result for never trust the media"Economic papers released in 2015 and 2016 estimated the burden of diseases attributable to exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), also known as environmental estrogens, and experts suspected right away that these calculations were flawed.
...Michigan-based epidemiologist Gregory G. Bond, Ph.D., Michigan, and toxicologist Professor Daniel R. Dietrich, Ph.D., University of Konstanz, uncovered substantial flaws in the underlying methodology of the economic papers, including

  • a failure to use good systematic review methodology,
  • a lack of transparency in reporting how the literature was searched and which studies were selected for review,
  • as well as a failure to achieve a balance of perspectives through a selection of certain members for the review panel.

"We saw a disturbing disconnect between what the media was reporting about the cost estimates, and what scientific experts were saying about their potential flaws and limitations." said Bond.
...Dietrich says, "Frankly, we were surprised that the astronomical cost estimates contained in these reports didn't give more people pause.
In the past, media and scientific journals might have questioned incomprehensibly inflated data and refused to report it.
Today, the new norm has become, quite alarmingly, to support it or, worse, to accept manuscripts that report unproven findings of presumed effects one would like to see.
The sensational response that ensues might be a win for the authors and news outlets, but it is hardly a victory for public health or credible science as a whole..."

Should I take Tylenol or Advil? - Business Insider

Should I take Tylenol or Advil? - Business Insider:
"You probably have at least three kinds of painkillers in your bathroom medicine cabinet, but they're not all designed to treat the same types of discomfort.
While some pain relievers are great at bringing down fevers, others, studies suggest, contain ingredients that are better for reducing the kind of painful swelling linked with muscle soreness or arthritis.
In addition, depending on your medical history and your diet, there may be certain over-the-counter medications that you should avoid
Still, in some cases, any of the medications below may treat all of your symptoms.
However, studies suggest some may be better at treating specific types of discomfort. "

Clint Eastwood -- Manliness & Civic Virtue in His Later Movies | National Review:

Image result for flickr commons images Clint Eastwood"With Eastwood, something of classical Hollywood returns. He wants a legacy, not as an artist or a businessman but as an American. He wants to show what American confidence is about at a remove from political institutions and the upper middle class, whose successes incline it to look to the future with hope.

This attempt to reveal heroism in the lives of Americans, and to portray it as both a source of confidence and a spur to gratitude, was the meaning of his last war movie, American Sniper (2014). It was not the number of confirmed kills or the prowess of the sniper that was paramount but the protagonist’s dedication to the lives of his fellow soldiers. "

"Reality Leigh Winner, the 25-year-old federal contractor who was arrested on Saturday for leaking classified information to the media, is a #Resistance activist who believes “being white is terrorism.”
Winner reportedly confessed to leaking a top secret NSA document on purported Russian hacking to an unnamed news organization, believed to be The Intercept.
Her social media profiles show she’s a thoroughly brainwashed, far-left #Resistance activist who said Donald Trump is an “orange fascist” and “the most dangerous” person in the country.

ESPN's own study indicates big chunk of viewers perceive network has liberal bias | Other Sports | Sporting News:
"A research survey intended to shoot down the idea ESPN has a liberal bias in fact showed a subset of respondents, by a 2-to-1 margin, believe the network leans to the left politically.
Image result for half trutThat's what Sporting News learned when we dug deeper into the results of the survey conducted by Langer Research Associates for ESPN.
One question in the survey of 1,423 adults conducted from May 3-7 was whether they detect a political bias in ESPN's coverage.
About 30 percent of the respondents said they detect bias; within that group, 63 percent said it's a liberal bias while 30 percent said it's a conservative bias.
The remaining 7 percent said they detect bias but declined to categorize it one way or the other.
Interestingly, the 63 percent statistic was missing from ESPN's press release announcing the survey results, but the network emphasized the 30 percent who think the network swings too far to the right.
When SN asked why the 63 percent figure was not included, an ESPN spokesperson said the network was trying to keep the press release "short."...

DELINGPOLE: Revealed - The Real Reason Trump Pulled Out Of Paris...:

"So what was it that tipped Trump over the edge?
Image result for Art of Scale
Well sure, as he made clear in his brilliant White House speech, it was about American jobs.

But while I’ve no doubt that that fact provided the rational basis for his bold, principled decision, I think we can look elsewhere for the tipping point.

And here it is, in black and white, in Der Spiegel‘s account of how the G7 leaders tried to badger Trump at the summit in Taormina, Sicily."

"The Paris Treaty was/is always about distribution of economic wealth; and the convenient use of “climate phrases” as branding instruments used to create political policy favorable to multinational corporate interests who control the shifting of economic wealth.
Listen to the responses from participating EU corporate comptrollers discussing climate and the entire purpose of the Paris Treaty becomes self-evident.
Example:
“The preservation of our competitive position is the precondition for successful climate protection. This correlation is often underestimated.”-~ Matthias Wissmann, President of German Auto Industry Group VDA"

"While I don’t always like to make sweeping assumptions about people based on a small collection of evidence, if you still support Donald Trump, there are certain things I already know about you.
Here are 7 of those things (HUGE shout out to Daily Kos for putting together this amazing list!):
1. YOU WANT TO BE RULED, NOT GOVERNED:
The single trait that predicts the Trump supporter isn’t related to race, income, or education.
A University of Massachusetts researches found that the top predictor of whether a voter supports Trump is a tendency to lean toward authoritarianism...
2. YOU HAVE NO CLASS:
Donald Trump and his supporters will try to tell you that he didn’t mock a disabled person, even though we all saw him do it.
Also, remember the time he mocked Senator McCain for being a POW, saying “I like people who weren’t captured”?...
...4. YOU’RE EITHER A RACIST OR AN ENABLER OF RACISTS...
If you don’t want to be considered a racist, sexist, whatever, then maybe you should consider no longer supporting a man who absolutely, without question, is all of these things. You’re better than this, America.-H/T Daily Kos

"TWO thirds of British Muslims would not inform the police if they thought that somebody close to them had become involved with terrorist sympathisers, according to a poll.
This alarming revelation suggests that more than 100,000 British Muslims could sympathise with suicide bombers and people who commit terrorist acts.
The investigation is further proof that the Government’s counter-terrorism programme, Prevent, is not providing intelligence to the police from Muslim groups.
Former chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Trevor Phillips, described this revelation as “astonishing” and “troubling”...
