"Political conversations have grown increasingly nasty in recent years, and it may be spawning something even worse: a growing number of people taking their vitriol to another level by threatening members of Congress.
In the past couple of months, the Justice Department announced action in four cases involving people who threatened serious harm, or even death, to federal lawmakers.
Most of those threats were made online, reflecting just one way people can convey their most vulgar feelings toward those on other sides of public policy disputes."

...Now, that didn’t even fit with what I’d been seeing on bills from the same clinic under insurance — plus, there was this annoying part where I’d get something done, and six months or a year later I’d get a call from a collection agency asking for their, I don’t know, some small amount, say $50 to $300 to be paid to some medical lab or medical service of which I’d never heard.

It will help us save the planet and meet CO2 reduction targets under the Climate Change Act.
As a result of these persuasive arguments, about 1.5 million British homes have wood-burning stoves and 200,000 more are sold every year.

For there is no doubt ministers have been desperate to encourage it..."

That’s because Illinois law states that “any minor under the age of 14 years whose parent or other person responsible for the minor’s welfare leaves the minor without supervision for an unreasonable period of time without regard for the mental or physical health, safety, or welfare of that minor” is neglected.
It’s the strictest law of its kind in the nation.
Only a handful of other states have a minimum age for leaving children home alone.
For example, three states list 12 as the minimum age for leaving children home alone, while three states set the minimum age at 8.
Kansas lists the minimum age at 6.
At least 30 states have no minimum age for when a child can be left home alone.
...Common sense tells us most 13-year olds are perfectly capable of staying home alone after school while their parent is at work, but that’s no guarantee that an overzealous police officer or government official won’t take that child into custody, requiring the government to make that determination.
This law disproportionally affects single-parent, lower-income households, where paying for child care after school is cost-prohibitive.
