"CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — The Australian government said Wednesday it would reopen a mothballed island detention camp in anticipation of a new wave of asylum seekers arriving by boat after Parliament passed legislation that would give sick asylum seekers easier access to mainland hospitals.
The Christmas Island immigration detention camp, south of Jakarta, Indonesia, was a favorite target of people smugglers who brought asylum seekers from Asia, Africa and the Middle East in rickety boats from Indonesian ports before the trade virtually stopped in recent years.

That such a simple affirmation of parental rights could not clear a committee in this solidly red state should terrify parents..."

• North Rhine-Westphalia once had 114 prison imams, but now has only 25. The drop occurred after German authorities carried out security checks on prison imams and discovered that 97 imams were Turkish civil servants whose salaries were paid for by the Turkish government. Turkey refused to allow the imams to be interviewed by German officials.
• In an article entitled, "German Becomes a Foreign Language in Many Prisons," the Berliner Morgenpost reported on the growing number of conflicts between German prison officers and foreign inmates because of communication barriers
• German authorities are also reporting an increase in inmate attacks on prison staff. In North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, since 2016, the number of assaults on prison staff have more than doubled.

The proportion of foreign-born inmates in German prisons is now at a record high, according to a new survey of the justice ministries in Germany's 16 federal states. 
In Berlin and Hamburg, for example, more than 50% of inmates are now from abroad, according to the report, which also revealed a spike in the number of Islamists in the German prison system..."

January features at least 33 separate entertainment programs that attack conservative values and/or President Donald Trump while promoting a hardcore progressive agenda.

This aggressive lefty programming calls 

• President Donald Trump a “racist,” and a “terrorist” who is holding America “hostage,” 
• ridicules Second Lady Karen Pence and her husband’s “BDSM late night kink sessions,” 
• insinuates that Democracy has “died” in America,
•  joked that the president watches Judge Jeanine Pirro’s show with his “pants off,” and trashed proponents of border enforcement.

Here are the worst from January:

The January 24 episode of Comedy Central’s Broad City involves the show’s main protagonists melting down in a disgusting and degrading tantrum in front of NY’s Trump Tower. 

During the scene Ilana Glazer stands in front of the doors next to some unassuming bystanders and begins yelling, “Suck it!” and “Fuck You!” as if she was possessed.

She gestures violently with both middle fingers, and yells to Trump, “Everybody’s laughing at you, fucking clown!” 

Broad City’s other star Abbi Johnson gets in frame and then tosses up her own set of middle fingers, which the ladies have edited in post to be shooting lightning bolts. 

Vulgarity is power.

Another really nasty one involves a character from Episode 9 of the last season of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt having sex with Donald Trump in a dirty commercial airliner bathroom. 
Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) has to be talked into the deed by Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) because obviously it’s disgusting and beneath her.

Jacqueline apprehensively walks over to the Trump caricature who is shown stuffing a hamburger into his face and saying things like “My biggest accomplishment? 
Not getting AIDS from Roy Cohn.” 
After Jacqueline leaves the bathroom, the flight attendant finds Donald prone in the lavatory, having suffered a heart attack.

The very clearly LGBTQ flight attendant is delighted upon the discovery and gleefully says, “God, I love my job.”...

JEFFERSON, OHIO — The banner headline in the Ashtabula Star Beacon the day after the President’s annual State of the Union Address was pretty straight forward. “Trump: End investigations; President calls for rejection of resistance politics in Washington.”
There were other critically important stories on that front page. 
One piece announced a new police chief for a local village. 
Another noted the closing of an iconic grocery store known for selling milk, eggs, and ammunition in its heyday. 
There was also a photo of the local high school boys’ basketball team.
The story on President Trump’s speech was an Associated Press story penned by Washington-based reporters: It took nine paragraphs before one positive nugget from the speech was mentioned in the story.
...It painted a dark and foreboding picture of the risks posed to Americans by illegal immigration.
I suspect had a local reporter from Ashtabula County traveled to Washington to report the story, the viewpoint of the story, not the facts, would be different. 
...Local reporters for the majority of the remaining small and medium newspapers don’t attend these types of speeches anymore..."

The increase in what’s essentially orbiting garbage that could damage or destroy a satellite “has implications for policymakers worldwide and is encouraging the development of space debris removal technology,” the agency said Monday in an unclassified publication on threats to U.S. satellites.

The article focuses on Phoenix, Arizona, as an example of a city in which high-tech is prominent, but the percentage of workers in low-skilled, low-wage jobs hasn’t move for forty years. 
The implied solution, of course, is government intervention.
You might think it would be impossible to write a lengthy article of this sort *without even mentioning* the huge influx of low-skilled labor from Mexico to Arizona in that timeframe, well over 50% of whom have been undocumented since 1990. 
You might think so, but you’d be wrong.
Putting aside what one thinks of immigration, legal or otherwise, it seems rather obvious that if a city is consistently importing poorly-educated workers who don’t speak English, most of whom have no legal residency status and cannot work legally, the percentage of workers in low-skilled, low-wage jobs is going to stay high.---Posted by David Bernstein"

They’re gonna do it with health care,” and every time I would point this out, they would pooh-pooh me and say that I was being paranoid and irrational, and abortion was a standalone issue that didn’t have any growth features.  It just was what it was.
