Compelling and a lesson not to be forgotten-----The war that saved Europe from Communism - UnHerd

The war that saved Europe from Communism - UnHerd

  • A century ago only the Polish army stood between Bolsheviks and a severely weakened Europe

See the source image"Edgar Vincent is one of those politicians who has slipped from public consciousness almost completely.
Once a prominent businessman, an MP and British Ambassador to Germany, he was elevated to the peerage in 1914 as 1st Viscount D’Abernon, a title that died with him when he passed away in 1941.
In one regard, however, Vincent did leave a legacy.
His memoir of one of the salient periods of his career — his time as a British Envoy to Warsaw in 1920 — made the grand claim that the fight for the Polish capital that summer was one of the most important battles in world history; alongside Marathon, Blenheim and Hastings.
Yet, the Battle of Warsaw — like much of Polish history — is almost unknown to English-speaking audiences.
The year 1920 was one of chaotic flux across much of Europe.
...Warsaw in 1920 represented that rare thing in history: a moment of genuine existential peril, akin to the Battle of Britain or Waterloo.
We in the English-speaking world would do well to remember it."

Our educational industrial complex is broken, time to reform higher education and student loans

Our educational industrial complex is broken, time to reform higher education and student loans:
"Our educational industrial complex is broken, and swift reform is needed.
College costs continue to rise much faster than inflation, and too many students are plowing themselves into debt and wasting years of their lives pursuing pointless degrees.
Upon leaving college, these students are often surprised to discover that their degrees have little value.
Of course, most colleges are liberal indoctrination centers, where conservative voices are few and often drowned out..."

The U.S. trade deficit in November fell to the lowest level in three years as imports declined more than exports.
The trade gap fell to $43.09 billion, lower than the $43.6 billion forecast by economists and sharply lower than the $46.9 billion trade deficit in October. The prior month’s figure was revised down from $47.2 billion. The trade gap has narrowed for three consecutive months.

"Pessimism pays in the world of new media.
See the source imageA writer can harvest a tidy sum complaining about the awful politician, that stupid celebrity, and how the world is always, endlessly falling apart.
Programming directors, website editors and social media mavens know this all too well.
...Despite our differences, many Americans agree on one point: everything is terrible.
Health care stinks, the environment is dying, violence and hatred are rampant, and income inequality has never been worse.

Instapundit Blog Archive-- WORTH REMEMBERING ON 9/11

"SEPTEMBER 11, 2018

WORTH REMEMBERING ON 9/11: Obama’s legacy was self-inflicted defeat everywhere we faced Islamist terror.
Plus, some history, worth repeating again:
Obama whines he just didn’t ‘have the tools’ to act on Syria.
Related: Obama seems eager to massage his legacy as it’s being written. We, therefore, are obliged to get the record right.
Well, here’s some history for you:
Rachel Maddow Tries to Rewrite History of Obama ‘Ending the War’ in Iraq.
Flashback: No Doubt About It — We’re Back in a Ground War in Iraq.
Without much fanfare, Obama has dramatically reversed his Iraq policy — sending thousands of troops back in the country after he declared the war over, engaging in ground combat despite initially promising that his strategy “will not involve American combat troops fighting on foreign soil.” Well, they’re on foreign soil, and they’re fighting.
It would have been easier — and would have cost far fewer lives — if we had just stayed.
But Obama had to have a campaign issue.
And I suppose I should repeat my Iraq War history lesson: Things were going so well as late as 2010 that the Obama Administration was bragging about Iraq as one of its big foreign policy successes.

In the interest of historical accuracy, I think I’ll repeat this post again:
BOB WOODWARD: Bush Didn’t Lie About WMD, And Obama Sure Screwed Up Iraq In 2011...
Plus: Maybe that Iraq withdrawal was a bad thing in hindsight.
Obama’s actions, if not his words, suggest that even he may think so.---Posted by

Romancing the Suleimani: eulogies for revered terrorists
"There must be some bitter rivalry in the prog-media's terrorist eulogy sector.
"Austere scholar," "most revered," and now this.
This passionate Soleimani eulogy in the New Yorker reads like a romance novel.
I looked it up and indeed, it was authored by someone who seems to be a vulnerable woman with the hots for brutal Islamic strongmen.
Robin Wright is the New Yorker's eminent expert on Iran, obviously not without dark, erotic fantasies about sadistic tyrants in their rape rooms and dungeons filled with BDSM paraphernalia, all of which becomes subliminally encoded in her body of work.

Hypocrisy and treason of the left!-----Where’s the outrage over Kerry’s secret meetings on the Iran deal? - The Washington Post

Where’s the outrage over Kerry’s secret meetings on the Iran deal? - The Washington Post
"Democrats routinely express outrage over claims of collusion with a foreign power to undermine our democracy.
Then-Secretary of State John Kerry talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Vienna in January 2016, after the International Atomic Energy Agency verified that Iran had met the conditions of the nuclear deal. (Kevin Lamarque/AP)So where is the outrage over revelations that former secretary of state John Kerry held not one but two secret meetings with Iran’s foreign minister to strategize over how to undermine President Trump’s plans to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal?
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman confirmed the meetings after the Boston Globe broke the news, declaring , “We don’t see the U.S. just as Mr. Trump; the United States is not just the current ruling administration.”
Think about what this means.
Iran is a terrorist state responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans in Iraq, whose leaders hold rallies where thousands chant “Death to America!”
Kerry was working with a sworn enemy of the United States to try to undermine the foreign policy of the elected president of the United States.
I thought we didn’t like Americans who colluded with our enemies..."
