Inconvenient Energy Realities: The Math Behind the "New Energy Economy" | Economics21
  • The math behind “The New Energy Economy: An Exercise in Magical Thinking”
"...Regardless of one’s opinion about whether, or why, an energy “transformation” is called for, the physics and economics of energy combined with scale realities make it clear that there is no possibility of anything resembling a radically “new energy economy” in the foreseeable future.
Bill Gates has said that when it comes to understanding energy realities “we need to bring math to the problem.”
He’s right.
So, in my recent Manhattan Institute report, “The New Energy Economy: An Exercise in Magical Thinking,” I did just that.
Herein, then, is a summary of some of bottom-line realities from the underlying math. (See the full report for explanations, documentation and citations.)
  • Realities About the Scale of Energy Demand
...3. When the world’s four billion poor people increase energy use to just one-third of Europe’s per capita level, global demand rises by an amount equal to twice America’s total consumption.
4. A 100x growth in the number of electric vehicles to 400 million on the roads by 2040 would displace 5% of global oil demand.
5. Renewable energy would have to expand 90-fold to replace global hydrocarbons in two decades. It took a half-century for global petroleum production to expand “only” 10-fold...Read it all!

"Although Reihan Salam’s book, Melting Pot or Civil War?--A Son of Immigrants Makes the Case Against Open Borders, was published in 2018, the author’s analysis of immigration policy remains relevant.
...the title of the book is no mere marketing gimmick, but actually conveys the essence of the author’s argument and the alternative that America faces.
The United States will either have to better and more fully integrate its large and growing foreign-born population in the spirit of the “melting pot,” Salam argues, or the resulting socio-economic inequalities and ethnic tensions will further radicalize and tear the country apart, possibly even leading to revolution or civil war...Read all

"To the progs and media liars who are crying crocodile tears over the possibility that Trump "infected" members of his Secret Service detail, I would point out this - the average age of people on the Secret Service presidential detail is well within the age group of Americans who face virtually zero risk of fatality from the virus.
Americans (all Americans, including those with co-morbitities) under 55 have a case fatality rate of 0.5% on average.
Here are the latest CDC survival rates (based on case fatality rates) by age:
0-19:    99.997%
20-49:  99.98%
50-69:  99.5%
70+:     94.6%

Good God, I'd forgotten much of this!-----VDH, a MUST READ!-----The Full Crowley - American Greatness

"In the second presidential election debate between President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney on October 16, 2012, CNN moderator Candy Crowley sensed that Obama, coming off a dismal initial September 26 debate, was again floundering.
Romney was driving home the valid point that the Obama Administration had inadequately prepared the American mission in Benghazi for likely terrorist attacks. And such laxity resulted in a horrific attack and the deaths of four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador.
...Obama did not, as he was finally forced to do two weeks later, tie specifically the Benghazi deaths to the premeditated attacks of radical Islamic terrorists.
No matter.
Moderator Crowley jumped in with her instant fact-check: “He did, in fact, sir. So, let me—let me call it an act of terror.”
Obama was delighted for the reprieve and wagged with delight at the coming out of his debate partner, “Can you say that a little louder, Candy?”
On cue, she obsequiously complied, “He did call it an act of terror.”
In other words, Crowley became a real-time, partisan fact-checker, rather than a moderator—but of a peculiar sort that did not fully assume her new role until Obama himself was desperate for a bailout.
...For much of the debate, Crowley had further tried to massage a comeback for Obama after his disastrous first outing.
She cut Romney off far more frequently than she did Obama.
She alone had picked the townhall questioners.
And the questions they posed were mostly asymmetrical, such as the following one addressed to Romney: “I do attribute much of America’s economic and international problems to the failings and missteps of the Bush Administration. Since both of you are Republicans, I fear the return to the policies of those years should you win this election. What is the biggest difference between you and George W. Bush, and how do you differentiate yourself from George W. Bush?”
In the debate’s aftermath, Obama supporters crowed; Romney sulked that Crowley had hijacked the debate.
And Crowley was never asked to moderate anything important again.
CNN offered various defenses.
But, in fact, Crowley’s career more or less ended that night and two years later she went into retirement, her finale forever a reminder of what not to do as a debate moderator and an example of media bias.
...Something similar occurred with Fox News moderator Chris Wallace in the first debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Like Crowley, he lost control of the debate.
And similarly, much of the crosstalk grew out of Wallace’s asymmetrical “prove you are not guilty” questioning...Read all!!

Top Republican: Pelosi refused to implement COVID testing as Senate Dems use COVID to delay Barrett hearings - TheBlaze

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise claimed Saturday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has thwarted efforts to conduct widespread coronavirus testing on Capitol Hill.
The allegations come as Senate Democrats attempt to use COVID-19 infections circulating between Pennsylvania Avenue and Capitol Hill to delay Amy Coney Barrett's Senate confirmation.
What did Scalise say?
Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), the ranking member on the House Committee on House Administration has been urging Pelosi to implement "a comprehensive health monitoring system and testing program for our Capitol Hill campus in order to help us do our part to stop the spread of coronavirus."
But she has so far refused to take action, Scalise explained on "Fox and Friends."

National Guard preparing for widespread civil unrest across America
WASHINGTON, DC – Between the presidential debates, the election and the pending confirmation hearings of Amy Coney Barrett, there is plenty of kindling to be added to an already burning fire of civil unrest coming from far-left ideologies, such as Black Lives Matter and Antifa.
As such, the National Guard has already started prepping two military police (MP) units from Arizona and Alabama to be ready to deploy within 24 hours if requested by the governor of another state.
While leadership for the National Guard did not provide a specific reason behind the increased readiness, one can speculate that the events of the next few 30+ days was the catalyst.
The MPs will serve as a Quick or Rapid Reaction Force (QRF/RRF).
As reported by Stars and Stripes:
“According to the Guard, about 600 troops — 300 in both Alabama and Arizona — will be ready to deploy within 24 hours if requested by a governor in another state.
And Guard leaders have also bought more than $200,000 in new protective equipment, and have increased troop training on proper procedures in dealing with protests...Read all.

HAYWORTH: Americans Subsidize The World’s Low Drug Prices. President Trump’s Price Controls Will Put A Stop To That | The Daily Caller

Big Pharma has been able to afford to sell drugs abroad for less because of this reliance on their patents within the well-financed American market. Other countries have taken advantage of this by such maneuvers as threatening to duplicate the drugs themselves, effectively extorting pharma companies for lower prices. For decades the powerful Pharma lobby has been very successful at getting Washington to resist measures to provide relief from this lopsided and predatory situation.
But no longer, thanks to President Trump.
