A Michigan coffee shop owner and single mom is fighting for her right to earn a living as the state government fines her $1,000 a day for keeping her business open in defiance of state coronavirus restrictions.

People are seduced with fairy tales about wise elites making brilliant plans that deliver maximum good to the people...

"The whole thread is good.
A bit:
"This is the inherent corruption of statism.
People are seduced with fairy tales about wise elites making brilliant plans that deliver maximum good to the people, guiding us with a vision so much broader, deeper, and less selfish than grubby little people and greedy businesses.
But you see now, again, at a cost of trillions of dollars, the ugly truth: there is NO ONE more selfish and short-sighted than the political class in Washington.

Inspiring: Celebrities Spell Out 'We're All In This Together' With Their Yachts | The Babylon Bee
"MALIBU, CA—Many described the scene as breathtaking or awe-inspiring.
Others were so touched they couldn't find the words to communicate how they felt.
Most simply wept.
No matter how they expressed their emotions, everyone agreed that the scene off the Malibu coast Monday morning was exactly what America needed to get through this pandemic.
Celebrities gathered their multi-million-dollar yachts on the waters of the Pacific Ocean and spelled out "WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER."...Read all.

Zoom employee was Chinese spy who shut down anti-China video - TheBlaze

A former executive at Zoom, who shut down video conferences that were not flattering to China, was exposed as a spy for the Chinese Communist Party, according to the Department of Justice.  Xinjiang Jin, aka Julien Jin, was an employee of the American video conferencing company. The 39-year-old, who was based in China's Zhejiang Province, worked as a "security technical leader" for tech company headquartered in San Jose, California. Jin served as a liaison between Zoom and the Chinese government after Beijing blocked the company's service in China in September 2019.

Facebook reveals plans for mind-reading device in leaked audio recording | The Independent
  • 'We all get the privilege of seeing the future because we are making it,' firm’s CTO says in private meeting
"Facebook has revealed more details about its secretive plans to release a mind-reading device, telling employees in a private meeting on Tuesday how it will work.
In an audio recording of the meeting, obtained by BuzzFeed News, Facebook’s chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer explained how a neural sensor would translate people’s thoughts into computer commands, such as typing or holding a virtual object in a video game.
“We all get the privilege of seeing the future because we are making it,” he said.
Mr Schroepfer also said the firm’s public perception when it came to issues like privacy would need to be addressed before releasing any such product...Read all.

Horowitz: Comprehensive analysis of 50 states shows greater spread with mask mandates - TheBlaze

For months, we've been lectured to by the political elites that cases of coronavirus are spreading too quickly and that we must wear masks to stop the spread. The obvious fault with their act of desperation is that they can no longer mask the fact that most parts of the country have already been fully masked for months — long before the ubiquitous spread this fall.

Researchers at RationalGround.com, a clearinghouse of COVID-19 data trends run by a grassroots group of data analysts, computer scientists, and actuaries, did an analysis of all 50 states divided by those that had mask mandates and those that did not. Justin Hart, co-founder of the website, posted the results in a Twitter thread and shared with me the data analysis:

Billions Going to Foreign Aid in Bill: Gender Programs in Pakistan

American taxpayers still reeling from coronavirus lockdowns will be shelling out billions to foreign countries if Congress passes a $2.3 trillion spending bill unveiled Monday. The 5,593 page budget-busting bill was posted online Monday afternoon, only hours before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said a vote would be held.

Overdose deaths far outpace COVID-19 deaths in San Francisco

Overdose deaths far outpace COVID-19 deaths in San Francisco

A record 621 people died of drug overdoses in San Francisco so far this year, a staggering number that far outpaces the 173 deaths from COVID-19 the city has seen thus far.

That's according to a San Francisco Chronicle report, which says the crisis fueled by the powerful painkiller fentanyl could have been far worse if it wasn’t for the nearly 3,000 times Narcan was used this year to reverse an overdose.

The newspaper says the crisis is deepening because fentanyl flooded the city’s drug supply.

Politicians are killing America!-----Elaborate Propane Commission Scheme May Be About Pipeline Shutdown

Elaborate Propane Commission Scheme May Be About Pipeline Shutdown
"...Jason Hayes, director of environmental policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, said the bill reflects a muddled state approach to energy, which tries to suppress the use of fossil fuels but then also subsidizes purchases of them.
“They force people into energy poverty by making energy too expensive and unreliable and then they subsidize people’s use of expensive and unreliable energy,” Hayes said.
...Nick Assendelft, a spokesman for the state Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, said the Whitmer administration supports the legislation. It does so because “replacing appliances will ultimately reduce propane use and save users money on their utility bills,” and be part of a “transition to renewable energy ... (and putting) Michigan on a path toward carbon neutrality by 2050.”
The legislation, Senate Bill 1133, authorizes the state to create a propane commission, made up of those in the industry, and to impose a levy on propane sales
...Hayes said the bill’s advocates may view the commission as a way to push back on the governor’s decision to force the closure of Enbridge Line 5.
The Enbridge pipeline is a primary source of heating fuel to the Upper Peninsula.
...In the short term, that commitment will push rural propane users to convert to prohibitively expensive electricity for heating and cooking, he said...Read all.
