Cuba Summons Biden Envoy over 'Flagrant' Human Rights Abuses in U.S.
"The Ministry of Foreign Relations (Minrex) of Cuba confirmed Monday that it had summoned the top American diplomat in the country, Embassy Chargé d’Affairs Timothy Zúñiga-Brown, to protest “flagrant and systematic violations of human rights in the United States.”
...Fernández de Cossío reportedly used the fact that Cuba — along with other human rights criminals such as China, Venezuela, and Pakistan — sit on the United Nations Human Rights Council as evidence that Cuba “enjoys international prestige in the realm of human rights.”
Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodríguez, Fernández de Cossío’s boss, took the nation’s campaign against the facts in the State Department report to social media, condemning the United States on Twitter.
“We reject the deceitful and politicized allegations about Cuba in the State Department report on human rights 2020,” Rodríguez wrote. “The opportunistic, arbitrary, and unilateral report lacks truth. We demand the government of the U.S. cease its campaign of discrediting and interference.”...Read all.

6th Circuit Reaches Right Conclusion on ‘Preferred Pronouns.’ Other Courts Should Follow Suit.
6th Circuit Reaches Right Conclusion on ‘Preferred Pronouns.’ Other Courts Should Follow Suit.
- In a victory for free speech, the rule of law, and common sense, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit has ruled that a philosophy professor could not be forced to use a transgender student’s “preferred pronouns,” and that his suit against the university for violation of his First and 14th Amendment rights could proceed.
"...The incident that precipitated this suit occurred in January 2018, when Shawnee State University philosophy professor Nicholas Meriwether responded to a male student’s question during a Socratic dialogue in his political philosophy class by saying, “Yes, sir.”
After class at the school in Portsmouth, Ohio, the student approached Meriwether, stated that he was transgender, and demanded that the professor refer to him as a woman, with feminine titles and pronouns.
Instead, Meriwether offered to use the student’s last name, or any other name of the student’s choosing, but politely declined to use the transgender student’s pronouns.
The student became belligerent and promised to get Meriwether fired...Read all.

Sensing Online: Why there is no such thing as a corporate tax
- Why there is no such thing as a corporate tax
First, corporations do not pay any corporate tax — individuals do. That is because companies pass on their costs. Some of the tax is paid by consumers, who pay higher prices. Company employees pay some of the tax through lower wages. And investors’ retirement accounts pay some of the tax through lower returns. ...Read all!

"...big tech has good reason to be particularly unnerved by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's calls for a global minimum corporate tax rate.
- Though it didn't name its source, Bloomberg reported Tuesday that the EU plans to insist that its long-awaited digital tax on the US tech giants - which Washington (under Trump) had protested - be part of the same package as the global minimum corporate tax in order to secure a deal.
- A bevy of European officials have praised Yellen's call for nations to work together to set a new tax floor, a call that was made during a speech to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs yesterday...
- "It’s very good news,” Gentiloni said in an interview with Bloomberg Television’s Francine Lacqua where he welcomed "this new multilateral atmosphere with the new US administration and the strong possibility of cooperation in the global arena. One of the main results could be finding agreements in global taxation."...

(Updated): 'Absolute malarkey': '60 Minutes' airs deceptively edited segment accusing Gov. Ron DeSantis of corruption - TheBlaze:
Updated 4/5/2021, 3:45 p.m. ET: The Democratic mayor of Palm Beach County, Dave Kerner, on Monday said he felt "compelled" to issue a statement after watching the "60 Minutes" segment featuring Gov. Ron DeSantis and vaccination efforts in the county.
"The reporting was not just based on bad information — it was intentionally false," Kerner said. "I know this because I offered to provide my insight into Palm Beach County's vaccination efforts and 60 minutes declined. They know that the Governor came to Palm Beach County and met with me and the County Administrator and we asked to expand the state's partnership with Publix to Palm Beach County.

A Professor Pushed Back Against 'White Fragility' Training. The College Investigated Her for 9 Months.
- The chaos at Lake Washington Institute of Technology is by no means an isolated occurrence.
"Elisa Parrett, a newly tenured 38-year-old professor of English at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, the only public technical institute in Washington state...what most concerned her was an upcoming diversity training in which faculty and staff would be divided into white and nonwhite "caucuses."
...What happened over the next nine months was both bizarre and oppressive.
Because of a brief disruption that easily could have been brushed aside or handled with a warning not to do it again, LWTech went to war against a tenured faculty member, launching a cartoonishly over-the-top disciplinary process that included the hiring of a private investigator, dozens of interviews, and claims of widespread trauma...Read all!

"Nearly half of new coronavirus infections nationwide are in just five states — a situation that is putting pressure on the federal government to consider changing how it distributes vaccines by sending more doses to hot spots.
New York, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey together reported 44% of the nation's new COVID-19 infections, or nearly 197,500 new cases, in the latest available seven-day period, according to state health agency data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
