- 1609 - Explorer Henry Hudson sailed into New York harbor and discovered Manhattan Island and the Hudson River.
- 1990 - U.S. President Bush vowed "Saddam Hussein will fail" while addressing Congress on the Persian Gulf crisis. In the speech Bush spoke of an objective of a new world order - "freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace".
- 2001 - In the U.S., four airliners were hijacked and were intentionally crashed. Two airliners hit the World Trade Center, which collapsed shortly after, in New York City, NY. One airliner hit the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. Another airliner crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. About 3,000 people were killed.
- 2012 - Terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Four Americans were brutally murdered and ten others were injured.

The new discoveries are the result of a "landmark lawsuit" filed by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry in May against top-ranking Biden administration officials for allegedly colluding with Big Tech companies to censor free speech on a number of critical topics, all under the pretense of stopping the spread of “misinformation.”
In July, the court required the Biden administration to turn over communications between federal officials and social media giants. While the Department of Justice has turned over some communications, Schmitt says officials have refused to "produce communications between the most senior officials and social media companies."

Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker released an ad Wednesday accusing the Democratic Party of using racial issues to divide Americans.
The 30-second ad quotes Democratic politicians including President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, and incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), contrasting their statements that America is racist with Walker's belief that America is a "great country full of generous people."
