The (Needed) Revolution Emerging in Higher Education

The (Needed) Revolution Emerging in Higher Education | Zero Hedge:
"Doing well in college—earning high test scores and grades—has no measurable correlation with being an effective worker or manager.
This is incontrovertible evidence that the entire higher education system is detached from the real economy: Excelling in higher education has no discernible correlation to real-world skills or performance."

Million dollar moron-Dominic Raiola Spews Hate Speech At Wisconsin Band Members

Dominic Raiola Spews Hate Speech At Wisconsin Band Members | Tom Melton's NFL Draft Blog

What year is it? Oh, it’s 2013?
Good to know, because Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola set us back a few years today before and after the Lions began their game against the Green Bay Packers.
.....According to a Wisconsin tuba player, Raiola and his teammates were engaged in their pregame warm-ups on the field near the goal line when he turned around and called him and the other tubas “Fat mother f**kers” and told them that “they sucked.”
...As the band was preparing to play the National Anthem another band member told me Raiola was yelling at him, saying such things such as “Hey fat guy, you want a hot dog?”
When this band member did not acknowledge him, he continued to yell at other band members within earshot of him until the band began to play.
A third band member told me Raiola was calling a band member near him a “fat fu**” prior to their pregame performance as well.

Obamacare: “I Was Laughing At Boehner… Until The Mail Came Today”

Obamacare: “I Was Laughing At Boehner… Until The Mail Came Today” | The Gateway Pundit:
(SJ Mercury News) Cindy Vinson and Tom Waschura are big believers in the Affordable Care Act. They vote independent and are proud to say they helped elect and re-elect President Barack Obama.
Yet, like many other Bay Area residents who pay for their own medical insurance, they were floored last week when they opened their bills: Their policies were being replaced with pricier plans that conform to all the requirements of the new health care law.
Vinson, of San Jose, will pay $1,800 more a year for an individual policy, while Waschura, of Portola Valley, will cough up almost $10,000 more for insurance for his family of four.
These “independents” were like totally floored. For people in Middle Class Land, that’s real money that could have been used for other things, and really hurts during the Obama economy malaise.
“I was laughing at Boehner — until the mail came today,” Waschura said, referring to House Speaker John Boehner, who is leading the Republican charge to defund Obamacare.
“I really don’t like the Republican tactics, but at least now I can understand why they are so pissed about this. When you take $10,000 out of my family’s pocket each year, that’s otherwise disposable income or retirement savings that will not be going into our local economy.”
Granted, both families make more than the cutoff for receiving a “subsidy”. Yet, Covered California states that just 570,000 of the 1.9 million who will get insurance through the Government Exchange will be eligible for subsidies. And someone has to pay for all those extra costs built into O-care plans. People like the ones mentioned in the story.

Free Government Healthcare-Law 'does not prohibit' sex-selection abortions, DPP warns

Law 'does not prohibit' sex-selection abortions, DPP warns - Telegraph:
"The British Medical Association (BMA) updated its guidance in the wake of an investigation by the Telegraph to advise doctors that "there may be circumstances, in which termination of pregnancy on grounds of fetal sex would be lawful".
The disclosure is expected to spark fury among dozens of MPs who have criticised the medical establishment for seeking to redefine abortion laws.
Keir Starmer, the Director of Public Prosecutions, today publishes a detailed memorandum explaining the controversial decision by the Crown Prosecution Service not to prosecute two doctors who agreed to arrange illegal abortions based on the sex of an unborn baby."

Obamacare's winners and losers in Bay Area - San Jose Mercury News:
"In California, 1.9 million people buy plans on the open market, according to officials with Covered California, the state's new health insurance exchange.
And many of them are steaming mad.

"There's going to be a number of people surprised" by their bills, said Jonathan Wu, a co-founder of ValuePenguin, a consumer finance website.
"The upper-middle class are the people who are essentially being asked to foot the bill, and that's true across the country."

Covered California spokesman Dana Howard maintained that in public presentations the exchange has always made clear that there will be winners and losers under Obamacare."

Supreme Court term begins amid government shutdown; Michigan case on racial preferences on agenda | Crain's Detroit Business:
"Among other top cases already set for review:

Michigan is fighting to preserve a constitutional amendment that bans the use of racial preferences in education after a federal appeals court ruled that the constitutional ban is itself discriminatory.
This case, unlike last term's look at a University of Texas admissions plan, does not involve the viability of affirmative action, but rather whether opponents of racial preferences can enshrine that ban in the state constitution."

Obama's MSM somehow missed this one: Leukemia patient loses his insurance coverage because of Obamacare regulations

VIDEO: Leukemia patient loses his insurance coverage because of Obamacare regulations
“I’ve worked hard because I’ve had to, and I’ve had to, because cancer runs in my family,” says Cerpok, who picked his current health insurance based on that family history.
His monthly premium is just about half of his monthly take-home pay.
Back in 2006, he found out he had an incurable form of leukemia that requires ongoing treatment until he dies.
In 2012, his treatment bill was more than $350,000.
But because of his insurance, his out-of-pocket was only $4,500.
That’s about to change because Michael just got a letter from his insurance carrier saying as of January 1, he would be dropped from coverage because of new regulations under Obamacare.
His doctor at the Mayo Clinic may be gone as well.
“Now it doesn’t mean I can’t go see my current doctor, but my $4,500 out-of-pocket, is going to turn into a minimum of $26,000 out-of-pocket to see the doctor that I’ve been seeing the last seven years,” he said.

Remember when Obama said, “If you like your plan, you can keep it.”
It was a bald faced lie.
There’s nothing affordable about Obamacare.
It’s actually hurting people with pre-existing conditions.

Boy suspended after using finger as pretend gun

Boy suspended after using finger as pretend gun | News - Home:
HARMONY, Fla. -
The mother of an 8-year-old Central Florida boy is fighting back after her son was suspended from school for using his finger as a play gun.
Bonnie Bennett said her son, Jordan, was suspended Friday at Harmony Community School in Osceola County after playing cops and robbers with another student.
“There was nothing in his hand.  He used his thumb and index finger,” said Bennett. “It was a game.  He made no threatening advances or threats to harm anyone. No words were said.”

Bennett said she would have been satisfied with some form of punishment but is worried now that since he's been suspended, her son will be seen as a violent child.

“They took a child that has never been in trouble before and went to the extreme,” said Bennett. “A child that has no history of violence is now classified as a violent offender.”

But the Osceola County School District said it wasn't just a simple game.

A school representative said the district can't comment on the specifics of what happened because of confidentiality,
but after reviewing the entire incident, Jordan's actions showed to have violated the code of student conduct.

Identify the "deciders", tar and feather!-Zeeland (MI) public school in outlaws tag, chasing, 'running in packs'

Zeeland public school in outlaws tag, chasing, 'running in packs':
"New Groningen kindergarten teachers in Grand Rapids, Michigan caused some consternation amongst parents recently with a letter they sent home that banned the game of tag and other chase-oriented games.

The letter described the problem of children, "running in packs, pushing, knocking other children over, and making the game dangerous," which as we recall, was half the fun of the game.

"We want our children to treat each other with respect, kindness, and with safety in mind," said Ginger Smith, community relationship manager for Zeeland Public Schools, on Friday, in an attempt to clarify the situation.
Apparently, neither the school nor the district have received any direct complaints from parents regarding the policy, but at least one did contact the media."

MSM amnesia or lack of Googling skills enabling Dems again!- Democrats have demanded conditions for debt-ceiling increases 21 times since 1979

Politics: FYI: Democrats have demanded conditions for debt-ceiling increases 21 times since 1979 | Best of Cain:

Why, those irresponsible Republicans, risking the full faith and credit of the United States by threatening not to raise the debt limit!
It's unheard of!
It's unprecedented!
It's beyond the pale, I tell ya!
Except for one thing: It's as common as the day is long.
In fact, more than half of all the debt ceiling increases since 1979 came with conditions, and no party attached conditions more than the Democrats.
Writing today in the Wall Street Journal, Kevin Hassett and Abby McCloskey tell you what the mainstream media would have told you two years ago if it was not merely an Obama propaganda outfit:
Congressional Republicans who want legislative conditions in exchange for a debt-limit increase are following a strategy that has been pursued by both parties the majority of the time. Of the 53 increases in the debt limit, 26 were "clean"—that is, stand-alone, no strings-attached statutes. The remaining debt-limit increases were part of an omnibus package of other legislative bills or a continuing resolution. Other times, the limit was paired with reforms, only some of which were related to the budget.
In 1979, a Democratic Congress increased the debt limit but required Congress and the president to present balanced budgets for fiscal years 1981 and 1982. In 1980 the debt limit, again increased by a Democratic Congress, included repeal of an oil-import fee. In 1985, the debt limit that was raised by a divided Congress included a cigarette tax and a provision requiring Congress to pursue an alternative minimum corporate tax in the next year.
