The administration also is seeking a $3 per contract hour increase, to $20, in the technology fee students must pay.

This shows up prominently once again in its recent treatment of a group of goats brought into the Brightmoor neighborhood to clear up weeds and unwanted vegetation.
It took only one day for officials to evict the animals with nary an explanation.
This isn't surprising.
Detroit has more rules, regulations, mandates and delays preventing people from living their lives than anywhere else in Michigan.
It isn't so much this specific ordinance that is the problem. 
Detroit joins many municipalities around the state in banning farm animals within the city limits.
It is the fact that an insolvent city at the top of several national crime statistics that cannot keep the lights on is spending time and effort focusing on regulatory rules that seemingly result in no harm to anyone.
Detroit has licensing rules well beyond that of other cities.
Its permit and inspection costs make it extremely difficult to run a profitable (legal) business.
And the infamous "Operation Compliance" where the city looks to shut down 20 companies a week that don't comply with all of these specific rules.
Statements from city officials show these are largely a short-term revenue grab.

The department is intensifying its battle against distracted driving by seeking explicit authority from Congress to regulate navigation aids of all types, including apps on smartphones.
The measure, included in the Obama administration’s proposed transportation bill, would specify that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has the authority to set restrictions on the apps and later order changes if they are deemed dangerous, much the way it currently regulates mechanical features of cars.
The measure has the support of automakers, which already mostly comply with voluntary guidelines for built-in navigation systems, but it has run into stiff opposition from technology companies, which say that any such law would be impractical and impossible to enforce.
It’s another example, they say, of federal regulators trying vainly to keep up with a rapidly changing industry.

No doubt, the Islamophilic administration will want to step in, and save Islam from itself once again.
Let me advocate a course of action that will make sense to all sides in America; the left and right; from militarists to pacifists:
Let the Muslims kill each other.
After the administration blundered on Benghazi, on the Arab Spring, and Syria, Heaven itself has afforded it one last chance to set itself right.
It is almost impossible for the administration to screw it up.
All it has to do is nothing.

ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Levant) is presently a large group of thugs with guns.  
They have no navy, no air force, except for a few captured helicopters, which they will soon break. The only ones they can threaten are their fellow Muslims.  
If they take over Iraq, who cares?  
They will soon reduce the Levant to the seventh century.
And this is a problem to us? 
OK, oil prices may spike for a while, but they are going to need to sell their oil because they’ve got nothing else to produce for export and can’t produce any of the fruits of modern industry. 
Meanwhile, the high prices will encourage domestic drilling and production of our nearly boundless reserves held in shale deposits, to the point where we will become a major oil exporter ourselves.
These mujahadeen are incapable of maintaining the weapons they already have.
Weapons need upkeep.
Weapons have to be oiled, cleaned, and upgraded.
Upkeep interferes with raping, pillaging, and chopping off heads.
Within two years, they will be slaughtering each other with scimitars and rusty AK-47s.
Iraq's president, Maliki has asked for US assistance.
Oh really?
Iraq insisted on setting up its country with an Islamic constitution; against our advice, and now he wants American help.
For what?
So Iraq's Shia can continue to run arms to Syria and Hezb'allah in Lebanon?
If our State Department had men and women with intelligence instead of a love of the Qur’an, they would tell Maliki that our help would be predicated on four conditions:
1) Get rid of the Islamic constitution, and set up a secular state
2) Recognize Israel
3) Naturalize the Palestinians in your state
4) Break off ties with Iran
If Maliki says no, we say “Fine, have your Islamic state.
We are not going to decide which flavor.”
He has no choice.
No matter what he decides, the West wins.
Should ISIS take over, Iran will be cut off from land routes to Syria's Assad, and Lebanon's Hezb'allah.
How does this hurt the West?
Sure!
Iraq may go down.
The Sunni officers in the Iraqi army will not fight for a Shia majority Iraqi state.
In fact, many Sunni officers are already joining ISIS.
The Shia, who are mere foot soldiers, are not prepared to fight the better trained Sunni.

KFSN reports Pearson had at least five felony convictions for domestic violence, being a felon in possession of a gun and other crimes.

According to The Fresno Bee, the jury meant to tell the judge they were deadlocked because all 12 jurors couldn't reach a unanimous verdict.
But they said they were confused by the verdict forms and accidentally signed a not guilty form.
After the court realized the mistake, the paper quotes the judge as saying, "I can't believe it. ... I can't change it because double jeopardy has already attached.

What I think is rallying voters is not a dissatisfaction with the conservative credentials of Republican candidates, but rather a general disgust with Washington and the politicians who populate it.
Voters believe the country is headed to Hell, are fed up with the inability of their leaders to change its course, and are sick of hearing excuses.
They aren’t simply voting against incumbents because some ranting radio talk show host challenged their conservative cred.
They’re sending a broader message of their dissatisfaction by the only means available to them.
So far, Republican voters are the ones leading the charge.
....Those aren’t just Republicans who are unhappy with the performance of their representatives.
Democrats and Independents are honked off, too.
And they’ll get a shot in the general election to exact their punishment.
Democrats who are mightily enjoying watching Republicans destroy each other’s political careers shouldn’t get too smug.
If they’re incumbents, they soon may be the ones at the end of the broom.

The only reason liberalism survives is because there's usually a good bit of lag between when a policy is being implemented and the time when the American people get to see the results.

Will Commander in Chief Obama decide not to adequately protect and evacuate Americans from Iraq?  Will Obama abandon Americans in Baghdad just as he abandoned Americans in Benghazi?

There are apparently still thousands of Americans in the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.  These Americans are apparently frightened, with many wanting to be evacuated out of Iraq.  This is not happening.

The Obama Administration fears that evacuating the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad might make Obama appear to be weak.  Fox News reported on the dire situation and Obama’s decision to gamble with the lives of Americans for possible political gain,

A senior U.S. defense official said Friday U.S. officials were seeing signs that Iranian fighters were engaged in Iraq, a development the source described as "concerning."

But it was not immediately clear how many troops were involved.

The defense official told Fox News the United States had been watching the swift gains made by the Sunni group known as Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) for months, adding "this didn't just happen."

"This is bad," the official said, adding that "there is not much we can do (militarily). We are way behind the curve."

The official said people in the U.S. Embassy feel threatened, but it's too "politically sensitive" to evacuate them right now.

In addition, as many as 600 American contractors were stranded at an Iraqi Air Force base.  Obama apparently had U.S. military personnel evacuated but did not evacuate the American contractors.  The Iraqi Air Force has been evacuating the Americans, but as many as 200 might still remain.  Obama has refused to provide military cover for the evacuation.

Happy Father's Day, Dad.

I originally posted this on 4/6/2006 and as today is Father's Day I thought I might repost with an addition.

Since 2006, I've proudly flown my American flag on my front lawn.
It's been more than an expression of patriotism because it's the last birthday gift I received from my father.
A blustery winter storm took it down a few months ago but my neighbor, TJ, got it back up in time for Father's Day. 

I had since added the patriotic Gadsden flag under Old Glory and TJ added a high-tech solar charger for the light.

I think the old sailor would be proud and today might be a good time to showcase the resurrection of  my father's gift and the everlasting memory it brings to me of my Dad.

So here is my little story about the last birthday gift I received from my father.


"Dad passed away last summer after a broken hip forced him to move into an assisted living community. 
We'd become fast friends in the last 15 years after my rather tumultuous youth.
Like many fathers, Dad hated shopping and early on caved to reality, just sending a generous check as Christmas and birthday gifts. 
Most times I'd send Dad a thank you and deposit the check in my checking account, soon to be forgotten.
But last year, after my visit to his new apartment, reality crept into my consciousness and I realized that Dad might not be with me forever.
My birthday check arrived shortly after my visit and for some reason, I just hung on to it, not depositing it for a few weeks. 
It took me some time but I soon realized that I wanted to do something special with my father's gift.
As luck would have it, I was chatting with a friend who has his own flagpole and I asked him who had installed it. 
He had done it himself, and I instantly had the answer to my quest for the perfect gift from Dad.
A few days later it was up. 
Lighted at night, almost always flapping proudly during the day.
I took a photo of the flag and sent it to Dad and I think he got as much of a kick out of as did I. 
He even asked me to send him additional photos of my birthday gift.
Dad served in WW2 and Korea, losing his fighter pilot brother over France in 1943. 
He instilled a tremendous sense of American pride and patriotism in all his children and he was wonderfully proud to fit into his old US Naval officer's uniform a few years back.

We all must bear the loss of our parents but the memories of their love and life lessons live on.
My Father is gone now but his spirit and "Dad's Flag" greet me each time I come home.

It is becoming clear that not only do many scientists dispute the asserted global warming crisis, but these skeptical scientists may indeed form a scientific consensus.
Don’t look now, but maybe a scientific consensus exists concerning global warming after all.
Only 36 percent of geoscientists and engineers believe that humans are creating a global warming crisis, according to a survey reported in the peer-reviewed Organization Studies.
By contrast, a strong majority of the 1,077 respondents believe that nature is the primary cause of recent global warming and/or that future global warming will not be a very serious problem.
The survey results show geoscientists (also known as earth scientists) and engineers hold similar views as meteorologists.
Two recent surveys of meteorologists (summarized here and here) revealed similar skepticism of alarmist global warming claims.
.......One interesting aspect of this new survey is the unmistakably alarmist bent of the survey takers.
They frequently use terms such as “denier” to describe scientists who are skeptical of an asserted global warming crisis, and they refer to skeptical scientists as “speaking against climate science” rather than “speaking against asserted climate projections.”
Accordingly, alarmists will have a hard time arguing the survey is biased or somehow connected to the ‘vast right-wing climate denial machine.’
