The Myth of the Clinton Surplus

The Myth of the Clinton Surplus
Verifying this is as simple as accessing the U.S. Treasury (see note about this link below) website where the national debt is updated daily and a history of the debt since January 1993 can be obtained.
Considering the government's fiscal year ends on the last day of September each year, and considering Clinton's budget proposal in 1993 took effect in October 1993 and concluded September 1994 (FY1994), here's the national debt at the end of each year of Clinton Budgets:

Fiscal
Year
Year
Ending
National DebtDeficit
FY1993 09/30/1993 $4.411488 trillion
FY1994 09/30/1994 $4.692749 trillion $281.26 billion
FY1995 09/29/1995 $4.973982 trillion $281.23 billion
FY1996 09/30/1996 $5.224810 trillion $250.83 billion
FY1997 09/30/1997 $5.413146 trillion $188.34 billion
FY1998 09/30/1998 $5.526193 trillion $113.05 billion
FY1999 09/30/1999 $5.656270 trillion $130.08 billion
FY2000 09/29/2000 $5.674178 trillion $17.91 billion
FY2001 09/28/2001 $5.807463 trillion $133.29 billion

As can clearly be seen, in no year did the national debt go down, nor did Clinton leave President Bush with a surplus that Bush subsequently turned into a deficit.
Yes, the deficit was almost eliminated in FY2000 (ending in September 2000 with a deficit of "only" $17.9 billion), but it never reached zero--let alone a positive surplus number.
And Clinton's last budget proposal for FY2001, which ended in September 2001, generated a $133.29 billion deficit.
The growing deficits started in the year of the last Clinton budget, not in the first year of the Bush administration.

How to communicate when the world goes silent

How to communicate when the world goes silent
So how would you communicate with your family or get help if communications go down?
So if you found yourself in the middle of a wide-scale disaster such as a hurricane or other catastrophe and you had no government coming to help for a while, how would you communicate with your family or others?
What if the power grid went down?
You won’t be able to rely on your cell phone.
There are alternatives, however.
I’ll go over the basics of some emergency communication methods but if you want more detail, check out Personal Emergency Communications: Staying in Touch Post-Disaster: Technology, Gear and Planning.
During many recent events, cell phone service wasn’t an option for many for days.
The system became seriously overloaded on 9/11 so calls wouldn’t go through, 70% of the towers went down during Katrina and were down for days, and most areas haven’t been adequately improved across the US.Short-term emergencies have shown the limitations of using cell phones to coordinate with each other.
Even if the towers are operational, they can’t handle the added traffic of millions of people trying to get a hold of loved ones – or help.
Ever had trouble calling your mother on the morning of Mother’s Day?
These won’t be isolated events.
Don’t think that because you live in a large metropolitan area that you’re safer.
A quick look at some of the things that went on during Hurricane Sandy in NY will show that the government has a lot to deal with in addition to just trying to get your cell phone service back up so even though that was a pretty short-term event, it caused a lot of problems.

During the 'Lost Decade,' Michigan Shed More Jobs Than U.S. as a Whole [Michigan Capitol Confidential]
(In a Sept. 23 interview, the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, Lisa Brown, said, "I think the Granholm years, you know, weren’t as bad as we think.” This article is part of a Michigan Capitol Confidential series examining how the state’s economy actually fared during Michigan’s "lost decade.")
Images from
During the 'Lost Decade,' Michigan Shed More Jobs Than U.S. as a WholeWhen the Great Recession hit the U.S. in December of 2007, state economies buckled.
But in the four years preceding it Michigan was the only state to lose jobs overall.
The state lost 148,100 jobs from 2003 through 2007 while the U.S. added 7.6 million jobs.
Over the entire decade, from 2000 to 2009, the state lost 805,900 jobs, or 1 in every 6 – a 17.2 percent reduction in employment.
The next closest state to bleed that many jobs was Ohio, which lost 9.9 percent of its jobs in those years.
Nationwide, the U.S. began the decade with modest declines in employment, but then job growth picked up strongly through 2007.
It fell off a cliff in 2008 and 2009; overall, the U.S. lost 786,000 jobs from 2000 to 2009.
While the Great Recession job loss in the United States was bad, Michigan’s decline began much earlier and was catastrophic.
The Wolverine State lost more jobs over the decade than the net job loss for the entire nation

Russian news outlet Ria Novosti recently featured an interview with Professor Francis Boyle, University of Illinois College of Law, implicating the United States military-industrial complex in the current Ebola outbreak which the World Health Organization claims has now taken over 4,000 lives in West Africa.
“US government agencies have a long history of carrying out allegedly defensive biological warfare research at labs in Liberia and Sierra Leone. This includes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is now the point agency for managing the Ebola spill-over into the US,” Prof. Francis Boyle said.
“Why has the Obama administration dispatched troops to Liberia when they have no training to provide medical treatment to dying Africans? How did Zaire/Ebola get to West Africa from about 3,500km away from where it was first identified in 1976?”

“Why is the CDC not better-prepared for this emergency after the US government spent about $70 billion since the anthrax attacks of October 2001 to prepare for this exact contingency?” Boyle said.

Odious District Expels Teen Girl For Carrying Grandpa's Pocketknife

Odious District Expels Teen Girl For Carrying Grandpa's Pocketknife - Hit & Run : Reason.com: "More "zero tolerance" injustice, this time from the Dearborn Heights school district in Detroit, Michigan.
Atiya Haynes, an honors students and college-bound 17-year-old, was emerging from the bathroom at a high school football game when school officials decided to search her.
(It's not clear why this was done, but I take it that such searches are merely routine at school events—in other words, there was no specific suspicion that Haynes had done something wrong.)

Officials found a pocketknife in Haynes' purse.
She told them she had forgotten that she was carrying the knife, which was a gift from her grandfather.
In a sane world, it would be completely reasonable for her to carry a pocketknife for protection; she biked long distances across southwest Detroit to get to her job last summer, for instance.

But because it is illegal to carry any weapon on school grounds for any reason—even with good reason, or by accident—she was promptly expelled.
The Board of Education eventually relented, but only slightly: Haynes is still suspended for the rest of the year, but will be able to take online classes and graduate."

Yemen rebels take port city, province near capital - SFGate:
SANAA, Yemen Shiite rebels who recently overran Yemen’s capital on Tuesday seized control of a key port city on the Red Sea and a province south of Sanaa in a stunning new blitz that is certain to deepen the country’s turmoil, security and military officials said.
The land grab indicates the rebels, also known as the Houthis, may be determined to carve out a mini-state within Yemen, taking advantage of the weakness of the central government and the disarray in the army and security forces.
The Shiite rebels’ offensive is the latest chapter in the chaos prevailing across much of this impoverished country on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula.

9 Ominous Signals: Is the stock market about to crash?

9 Ominous Signals: Is the stock market about to crash?:
The following article has been generously contributed by Michael Snyder, founder of The Economic Collapse Blog and author of The Beginning of the End.
Editor’s Note: Since the stock market’s reversal following the crash of 2008 to new highs today many observers have warned that the fundamental economic, financial and monetary problems that caused the crash to begin with have yet to be resolved. In fact, by all accounts things have only gotten worse
But you wouldn’t know it if you’ve only been paying to the official numbers being disseminated by the government or the constant blathering on about economic recovery from financial media pundits.
Frankly, the whole of the industrialized world knows something is wrong and those with any sense are now just waiting for the system to finally buckle.
We’re starting to see major gaps in economic progress – real estate is dropping like a brick, more people are exiting the labor force than ever before, and tens of millions of people per month are requesting social assistance from the government just so that they can put food on the table.
To put it mildly, the situation is deteriorating.
Even the stock market, America’s pillar of financial success, is finally starting to crack.
In the following article Michael Snyder highlights some critical signals that are appearing now.
We saw them prior to the last crash, and while past performance is not a guarantee of future results, things are certainly looking ominous going into this holiday shopping season.
How long can the U.S. economy hold on to the facade?

9 Ominous Signals Coming From The Financial Markets That We Have Not Seen In Years
By Michael Snyder (Economic Collapse Blog)
Is the stock market about to crash?  Hopefully not, and there definitely have been quite a few “false alarms” over the past few years.
But without a doubt we have been living through one of the greatest financial bubbles in U.S. history, and the markets are absolutely primed for a full-blown crash.  That doesn’t mean that one will happen now, but we are starting to see some ominous things happen in the financial world that we have not seen happen in a very long time.
So many of the same patterns that we witnessed just prior to the bursting of the dotcom bubble and just prior to the 2008 financial crisis are repeating themselves again.
Hopefully we still have at least a little bit more time before stocks completely crash, because when this market does implode it is going to be a doozy.
The following are 9 ominous signals coming from the financial markets that we have not seen in years…

Union Leader Celebrates Failing School’s Performance

Union Leader Celebrates Failing School’s Performance [Michigan Capitol Confidential]:
"NEA President Lily Eskelsen Garcia stopped at Flint Northwestern as part of statewide tour on Sept. 24 to celebrate it being moved off a Michigan Department of Education "priority schools list."
The state applies this label to the lowest performing 5 percent of schools, which makes them subject to increased supervision.
When Flint Northwestern finished among the bottom 6 percent instead, it dodged this status by two percentage points.
Academic outcomes at the school show little cause for celebration. Flint Northwestern had a four-year graduation rate of 66 percent in 2012-13 — its lowest in five years.
In 2010-11, it was ranked among the bottom 13 percent of Michigan public schools.
In 2011-12, it fell to the bottom 8 percent, and in 2012-13 joined the lowest 5 percent.
In that year, 17 percent of students scored proficient on the Michigan Merit Exam reading test.
The school's ranking in the bottom 6 percent this year represents a marginal improvement after three years of decline.
Yet during her visit, Eskelsen Garcia said, “This is a school that did it right.”
She told school employees, "To me, a really good school is one that's involving the whole community in caring for kids,"
"We're moving up!" a Northwestern teacher said, according to a Michigan Education Association press release."

University initiative urges students to pee in the shower

University initiative urges students to pee in the shower - EAGnews.org
NORWICH, England – In a bid to “save water,” students are being urged to pee in the shower.
University of East Anglia students Debs Torr and Chris Dobson came up with the “Go with the Flow” campaign to get the “the university’s 15,000 students to take their first wee of the day while having their morning shower,” according to the BBC.
The duo claims the move could save the university £125,000 a year – or about 200,000 American dollars.
“We’ve done the maths, and this project stands to have a phenomenal impact,” Dobson tellsITV news.
“With 15,000 students at UEA, over a year we would save enough water to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool 26 times over.
Imagine how big an impact it could have if we could get everyone in East Anglia, or even the UK, to change their morning habits.”
While the initiative is not led by the university, it nonetheless endorses it.

$498 MILLION just sittin' since 2010?!!......Now it's gonna "revitalize"?------$75M in federal funds to help fight blight in Hamtramck, Detroit, other Michigan cities

$75M in federal funds to help fight blight in Hamtramck, Detroit, other Michigan cities | Crain's Detroit Business:
LANSING — Michigan plans to fight blight in 12 cities using $75 million in federal funding, the latest in a series of efforts to deal with vacant and dilapidated buildings across the state.
The plans, created by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, will help fund work in Detroit, Ecorse, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Inkster and River Rouge in Wayne County as well as Adrian, Ironwood, Jackson, Lansing, Muskegon Heights and Port Huron.
"For too long, blight has driven down property values and stifled growth in some of our communities," Gov. Rick Snyder said in a statement.
Snyder's office last week announced that the state's plans to use the $75 million were approved by the U.S. Treasury Department
Eligible cities were selected by MSHDA based on an evaluation system that included residential housing vacancy rates.
"This federal, state and local partnership demonstrates a commitment to revitalizing our cities and to addressing the damaging effects caused by vacant and blighted properties," said U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Sarah Bloom Raskin.
The money is from $498 million the state was allocated in 2010 as part of the "Hardest Hit" program, designed to help homeowners in states that suffered the most from the housing crisis.

If you want to know how the economy is doing, look inside America's mouth

If you want to know how the economy is doing, look inside America's mouth - CNET
"I am here to reveal, therefore, that the future of the American economy is in the hands of dentists. How do I know this? I have data before me that says the state of our mouths is sending us into a little recession.
Provided by business intelligence app Sikka, these numbers say America's economy is getting sicker.
Specifically, 2014 has seen a reduction in the purchase of crowns, veneers and implants from dentists. These are, allegedly, often cash payments and express a measure of the country's prosperity.
This year, dentists haven't managed a June surge in average daily net production. This doesn't augur well. Indeed, our teeth are chattering that there is to be a downturn.
CEO Vijay Sikka says that he's been collating dental data since 2008. He analyzed 12,200 dental practices and believes the results closely correlate with economic performance.
Sikka told me: "This is the first research of its kind to be published in the dental industry. We have an unprecedented ability to see real-time trends and data. What is happening in these providers' practices, with more than 300 million American patients represented, is tied to broader economic trends."

Democrat ad campaign lies about alleged GOP 'cuts' for Ebola research

Democrat ad campaign lies about alleged GOP 'cuts' for Ebola research - National Elections | Examiner.com
On Monday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced advertisements claiming House Republicans cut funding for Ebola research while "protecting tax breaks for special interests." But there's only one problem, as the National Review's Jim Geraghty observed. In January, the GOP-controlled House passed a bill that gave the CDC a whopping 8.2 percent budget increase for fiscal year 2014.
"This influx of cash will raise the CDC budget to $6.9 billion, which is $567 million more than it received in 2013," the Atlanta Business Chronicle said. "This is more than the agency anticipated, because the president’s fiscal year 2014 budget request for it was just $6.6 billion — a decrease of $270 million from fiscal 2012."
But according to Democrats, mean, evil Republicans cut the CDC's funding. Geraghty notes those evil, miserly Republicans barely passed the measure by a 376-5 vote. And as we reported earlier today, the NIH announced the trial of an experimental Ebola vaccine based on a chimpanzee “cold” virus in August.
As it turns out, it was the Senate -- controlled by Democrats -- who refused to consider a House bill to fund the NIH during the partial government shutdown last year. That shutdown took place when Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told Republicans it would be his way or the highway on Obamacare spending. Reid lashed out when asked by CNN's Dana Bash why he wouldn't fund a measure to help children with cancer.
"Why would we want to do that?" Reid asked in response. "I have 1,100 people at Nellis Air Force base that are sitting home. They have a few problems of their own. To have someone of your intelligence to suggest such a thing maybe means you’re irresponsible and reckless."
Now Democrats are running ads attempting to rewrite history in a desperate attempt to politicize the Ebola crisis. Worse yet, Townhall political editor Guy Benson said the ad claiming that GOP cuts "kill" Americans "features footage of Africans dying of Ebola."
"Just when you think the Dems can't get any lower, here they come," one person said. "They have no morals at all."
