Take away the cars and give 'em to the poor?-----The Fattening Of America: Obesity Rates Hit Record High, Doctors Blame Cars & Poverty

The Fattening Of America: Obesity Rates Hit Record High, Doctors Blame Cars & Poverty | Zero Hedge:
74% of American men are either overweight or Obese (up from 63% in 1994) according to a new report using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
As MSN reports, the researchers exclaim "obesity is not getting better.
It's getting worse, and it's really scary. It's not looking pretty," warning that America's "car dependence" and poverty ("processed and fast foods are less expensive") are to blame and America's weight problem is an issue that will not be resolved through a purely medical solution.

Warning To US, Gun-Free Britain Now Pushing Knife Ban

Warning To US, Gun-Free Britain Now Pushing Knife Ban:
"This is what happens after gun control has taken place for a period of time.
The British police are pushing to ban knives, no joke.
The program is called “Save a Life-Surrender Your Knife”, and this program is in full swing.
The people of the UK are joining the trend to turn in all pointy knives.
The “Save a Life” initiative started at the end of this past August and “more than 800 knives have been handed in across the county – including swords, machetes and commando knives.”
The sad part of this is that they extended it a week due to its “success”.
The Lancaster police department said, “Officers have now given their backing to a national initiative designed to raise awareness of knife crime and encourage the surrender of dangerous weapons.
...The police said that they were delighted by the response, and happy to work with the community that demanded an end to knife crimes."

See No Iran Evil at State

See No Iran Evil at State - WSJ
...But here’s a less obvious risk:
The U.S. might find evidence that Iran is cheating but fail to act out of bureaucratic neglect—or a political desire to look the other way.
That’s the message of a report last month by the Government Accountability Office, which found that the State Department had failed to provide timely reports to Congress on the proliferation activities of Iran, North Korea and Syria
Instead of delivering reports every six months, as required by law, delays ranged from 22 months to three years.
...As for willful delay,...That’s a delicate way of admitting that the State Department is willing to obscure facts to promote its arms-control agenda.
That happened in 2010, when State failed to report Russia’s violations of the 1987 INF Treaty while the Administration was pressing the Senate to approve the New Start nuclear treaty.
More recently the Administration has played down Iran’s failure to convert low-enriched uranium into oxide form, as required under the interim 2013 deal.
Secretary of State John Kerry caved again last week when he disclosed that the Administration is ready to lift sanctions without a full accounting of Iran’s past nuclear work.
If this experience is any guide, don’t expect the Administration to meet its obligations under the recent Corker-Cardin bill on Iran, which requires the executive branch to provide twice-yearly updates on Iran’s compliance with an agreement.
Arms control is an obsession in which belief is inversely proportional to evidence of success, and so it is with this Iran deal.
How is the U.S. supposed to enforce an Iran deal when the State Department would rather cover up an adversary’s deceit than face the failure of U.S. diplomacy?

EPA Eyeing That Saturday Afternoon BBQ at the Park

EPA Eyeing That Saturday Afternoon BBQ at the Park [Michigan Capitol Confidential]:
"A resolution in the Michigan Senate sounds the alarm that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency could soon be meddling with how outdoor barbecue-loving Americans prepare their food. Senate Concurrent Resolution 14 expresses opposition to EPA efforts to acquire a study that could lead to regulations on outdoor grills and barbecues.
The EPA has commissioned a study intended, "To perform research and develop preventative technology that will reduce fine particulate emissions (PM2.5) from residential barbecues.
This technology is intended to reduce air pollution as well as health hazards in Southern California, with potential for global application."
Sen. Phil Pavlov, R-St. Clair, and Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, are joint sponsors of the resolution.
“We want to prevent another absolutely absurd overreach by the EPA and keep them from getting into our backyards and shutting off our barbecues and grills,” Pavlov said.
...“This is not the biggest issue we have here in Michigan, and particularly in Northern Michigan, regarding the EPA; but it is especially symbolic of what keeps happening when you have an agenda-driven agency like the present day EPA that wants to regulate everything,” Casperson said..."

As the 2016 presidential election field takes shape, more than nine in 10 Americans say they would vote for a qualified presidential candidate who is Catholic, a woman, black, Hispanic or Jewish.
Less than half of Americans would vote for a candidate who is a socialist.
Between now and the 2016 political conventions, there will be discussion about the qualifications of presidential candidates -- their education, age, religion, race and so on. Laudato Si’ Is Wrong: The Poor Need More Energy, Not Less | National Review Online

Laudato Si’ Is Wrong: The Poor Need More Energy, Not Less | National Review Online
When it comes to energy supplies — and therefore carbon dioxide emissions and climate change — who are you going to believe?
Pope Francis, or BP?
...What matters when discussing energy availability, climate change, and poverty are hard numbers and simple math.
...But his new encyclical on climate change, Laudato Si’ (Be praised), shows a shallow understanding of global energy use and, in particular, of how energy consumption is soaring among the people he claims to care most about: the poor.
...But if developing countries are going to prepare for possible changes in the climate, they will have to get richer so they can afford to deal with any calamities that may occur.
And how will they get richer?
The answer is obvious: by consuming more energy.
And for countries throughout the developing world, the lowest-cost energy is still coal.
...The encyclical fails to acknowledge that climate change is only one issue among many that we must address.
The more pressing issue is poverty and what must be done to get more energy to more people so they can escape poverty.
In a world in which some 1.3 billion people still lack access to electricity, we have to move beyond the myopic belief that all hydrocarbons (and therefore most carbon dioxide emissions) are bad.
If we are going to cope with more-extreme weather events in the future — regardless of their cause — we are going to need a lot more energy, not less.
In his encyclical, Pope Francis calls for a “bold cultural revolution” to combat what he says is an “ecological crisis.”
But by ignoring the magnitude and importance of the energy sector, he has missed an opportunity to recognize that energy availability is essential to human fulfillment and freedom.

More African-Americans Than Ever Support Carrying Legal Guns For Self-Defense

More African-Americans Than Ever Support Carrying Legal Guns For Self-Defense:
"In the aftermath of the Charleston, South Carolina terrorism against churchgoers at a historical black church, many African Americans have decided that the they cannot rely on the police for protection.
President Obama tried to make the act of terrorism by Dylann Storm Roof about “gun control,” but more and more, Black Media is taking notice and not having it.
The Atlanta Black Star ran a piece entitled “Obama Makes Charleston Shooting About Gun Control Instead of Terrorism Against Black People” which asserted the president was out of touch with what was actually going on.
African American gun ownership and support for carrying firearms for self-defense is at an all time high.
An African American church in Minneapolis says they will act as their own security guards and carry guns due to past threats directed towards the congregation.
They say they can’t count on the police to protect them from incidences like what happened Wednesday night in Charleston, South Carolina.
...When he came back to become Detroit’s police chief in 2013, he found a whole new reality.
“You would have thought, given the dynamic of people who carry weapons, that we were maybe in Texas,” he says. “But in fact, we were in Detroit, Michigan!”
Police chiefs usually don’t like the idea of citizens carrying concealed guns for self-defense, but Craig says he had to be realistic about the situation in his hometown.
That’s right, even the police chief in Detroit had changed his tune about people arming themselves.
“It was a well-known fact here in Detroit,” he explained. “People didn’t have a lot of confidence that when they dialed 911, that the police were going to show up. In fact, we know they didn’t.”
According the Pew Research Center, 54% of African Americans now view gun ownership as a good thing.

How taxpayers will end up paying for Obama's West Coast fundraising jaunt

How taxpayers will end up paying for Obama's West Coast fundraising jaunt | WashingtonExaminer.com:
"At first, President Obama's West Coast visit this week appeared to be purely devoted to fundraising in Hollywood and San Francisco on behalf of other Democrats, and a recreational weekend golf retreat to a Palm Springs desert resort.
But a week ago, the White House sandwiched a U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in San Francisco in between the fundraisers on Thursday and Friday nights, allowing Obama to label at least part of the trip as official business and have taxpayers foot a much greater share of the bill.
It's a time-worn billing trick by modern-day presidents, who can rely on Air Force One and other military aircraft at their disposal for official business while federal election laws require party campaign committees to reimburse the White House and ultimately the U.S. Treasury for political travel — albeit at a fraction of the actual costs.
When the president travels strictly for fundraising purposes, the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee are forced to pay the equivalent of a commercial airline ticket for himself and each of his aides traveling with him."

Personal Examples of Why the Teachings of Socialism are Un-Natural - Eagle Rising

Personal Examples of Why the Teachings of Socialism are Un-Natural - Eagle Rising:

"Growing up in the socialist Utopia of Ireland, I have witnessed first-hand the arguments from the “left” of how and why the rich are to blame for every problem in the world and how capitalism really sucks. I come from a family of socialists who believe we need more government and regulations to fix the world’s problems. I can count on one hand the amount of Irish people who share and believe in a similar message of Freedom as I do."

Why Do Gunmen Target Churches And Schools, Not NRA Meetings?

Why Do Gunmen Target Churches And Schools, Not NRA Meetings?
In the wake of the heinous attack on Charleston’s Emanuel American Methodist Episcopal Church, Democrats’ ritual calls for more gun control have louder than usual, and a mainstream media’s focus on the threat of “mass shootings” has been kicked up a notch.
The question none of the Democrats or media outlets have asked is why gunmen, historically speaking, attack churches and school but bypass NRA meetings?
Why do they target Fort Hood twice within a five years period while opening fire in Walmart remains unpopular?
To ask the questions is to answer them.
Law-abiding citizens are largely prohibited from possessing guns for self-defense in churches and schools around the country, but they may be heavily and openly armed at an NRA meeting.
Likewise, soldiers are then mandated to be unarmed on stateside military bases while law-abiding shoppers at Walmart can and frequently do carry guns to protect themselves and their families.

Top CEO Warns Of Global Reset: "It's In The Cards For Sure... It Could Happen This Year"

Top CEO Warns Of Global Reset: "It's In The Cards For Sure... It Could Happen This Year"
Over the last several months there have been numerous reports highlighting the frantic activities of the world’s ultra-wealthy elite.
From the purchasing of emergency hideaways and airstrips to warnings from their financial advisors that it’s time to shift their assets into physical holdings, it appears that a lot of powerful people are afraid of a significant shift set to take place in the near future.
In his latest interview with Future Money Trends Keith Neumeyer, who recently penned a very public (and very viral) letter to the Commodity Futures Trading Commissions outlining the rampant manipulation by concentrations of shadowy market players taking place on commodities exchanges, shares his insights on what many believe to be a coming global reset.
According to First Mining Finance Chairman Neumeyer, the day of reckoning may come a lot sooner than most people think:
It’s in the cards for sure. Predicting exactly what it’s going to mean or what it’s going to look like… that’s the big challenge… I think a lot of people are ignoring it… but there are some forward thinkers out there who talk about it.

I think that the Chinese want their currency part of a floating currency… I think that’s really going to be the next leg in this whole change… in this reset going forward. It could even happen this year.

When is a Crime a Hate Crime?

When is a Crime a Hate Crime? | The Marshall Project:
Dylann Roof and the challenges of proving bias.
When a white gunman opened fire at South Carolina’s historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on Wednesday night, killing nine African-American worshippers, Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen said, “we believe this is a hate crime; that is how we are investigating it.”
Attorney General Loretta Lynch likewise announced the Department of Justice had opened a hate crime investigation.
But “‘hate crime’ is a term that means something legally different than it’s used publicly,” says Barry Kowalski, a recently-retired lawyer with the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, which is responsible for these prosecutions.
To prove a hate crime, prosecutors must prove not only that someone committed a particular crime, but also why: in this case, a jury would have to believe beyond a reasonable doubt that Dylann Roof killed nine people and that his actions were motivated by racial animus.
In the Charleston case, this seems like a relatively straightforward proposition:
The shooter didn’t just target a historically black church with a rich history of African-American activism.
He allegedly said, in the course of his attack, “I have to do it.
You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.” It’s unusual that the motive is stated so clearly at the time of the crime, however.
In cases where the motivation is less obvious, prosecutors must cast a wider net for proof:
“Does the guy belong to a hate group? Can we get a search warrant for his computer? Did he say anything either immediately before or immediately after the crime? What is his connection to these victims?” says Bill Fitzpatrick, the Syracuse, NY District Attorney and President-Elect of the National District Attorneys Association...

When LGBT college students reveal their true selves to their parents, some of them not only lose emotional support – they lose the financial support they need to continue their studies.
To ensure these students don’t become dropouts, several colleges around the country have set up “emergency” funds with varying requirements for assistance – including giving permission to be used in promotional materials.

"Of course, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is a Republican.
...imagine a similar situation–a U.S. Senator campaigning for President–and instead of a pro-2nd Amendment event, it’s a pro-gun control event.
Imagine this Senator is standing in front of a giant poster of a pistol–one meant to demonize the weapon rather than promote it.
Imagine that this same AP photographer, instead of shifting a foot to the left or the right, framed a picture with the Senator’s nose almost touching the barrel, as a closer crop makes clear.
Imagine that this photographer, even though he took a few shots with this silly setup, took many more without it. Imagine that his editor–unnamed and insulated from public backlash–chose not one but two but three of those photos to distribute to AP’s clients.
Imagine this scenario–and how would the world respond if the name on those photos read:

Canada: Never mind. We’ll just ship our energy to China

Canada: Never mind. We’ll just ship our energy to China « Hot Air
When we’ve discussed our energy partnership with Canada in the past, realists have tended to note how our cooperative relationship has produced jobs, lower gas and oil prices and an improved national security position.
And why would the Canadians want to do business anywhere else when they have a ready partner with massive refinery capacity and global leading technology resources?
But opponents have fought expansions to this partnership, particularly when it comes to new pipelines or expanding the types of fossil fuel products we work together to process.
They also seem to want to keep us from opening up foreign markets by lifting US export bans on crude oil and liquefied natural gas. (LNG)
In the past, I have expressed concerns of my own on these pages, one of them being that if we became too intractable with the Canadians, they may just take their toys and play elsewhere.
One possible example could be opening up their western seaboard and exporting energy products all over the world themselves, including to China.
Opponents responded by scoffing, assuming we would work out something with the Canadians. Besides… if you wanted to drive a pipeline from the rich oil and gas fields of northern British Columbia to some processing facility and port on that nation’s rugged northwestern coast, you would have to blast your way through a stretch of some of the most inhospitable peaks of the Canadian Rockies imaginable.
I mean, you’d have to be insane just to consider the project.
Insane, I tell ya!
Boy howdee… those crazy Canadians.
TransCanada Corp said on Friday it expects to start construction this year on natural gas pipeline to British Columbia’s Pacific Coast worth at least C$5 billion ($4.1 billion) following a conditional go-ahead by a Petronas-led consortium for what could be Canada’s first LNG export terminal....
