Could A Simple Lab Mistake Lead Scientists to Overestimate Microplastics? | Extremetech

While microplastics are a very real issue, one new study suggests that the numbers might not be quite as bad as we've feared. - Graham Templeton
  • Researchers from the University of Michigan recently published a study presenting evidence that nitrile gloves could significantly affect readings of microplastics, donating particles that are virtually indistinguishable from substances like polyethylene.
Nitrile gloves, by the way, are the standard gloves recommended for use by microplastics researchers...
There are new headlines about microplastics coming out every day.
  • Just yesterday, a study of airborne contaminants in dense urban areas found significant quantities of microplastics—and now, we have to wonder whether those results could be adjusted downward in the future.
