The end of the "first job"------Fast food protesters want promises from presidential candidates

Fast food protesters want promises from presidential candidates | MLive.com:
"NEW YORK — Workers from McDonald's, Taco Bell and other chain restaurants protested in cities around the country Tuesday to push fast food companies to pay them at least $15 an hour.
The protesters also had a message for presidential candidates:
Support the cause or lose their vote next year.
The fast food protests were planned by organizers at more than 270 cities nationwide, part of an ongoing campaign called "Fight for $15."
Janitors, nursing home workers and package delivery workers also joined some protests, organizers said.
Dominique McCrae, who serves fried chicken and biscuits at a Bojangles' restaurant for $7.55 an hour, joined a protest outside a McDonald's in Durham, North Carolina.
Her pay isn't enough to cover rent or diapers for her child, the 23-year-old said.
She dropped out of college to care for her grandfather, making finances tight.
"We just want to be able to support our families," said McCrae, who has worked at Bojangles' for two months..."

LIBERTY REVIEW

LIBERTY REVIEW:

Ain’t That America?

By Tammy Derouin

I can only think of one place in today’s entertainment industry where part of a performance would involve a gigantic American flag.  How about a gigantic American flag made of lights, proudly displayed as the backdrop on stage?  Not only did the Country Music Awards acknowledge our flag as a positive, the first several songs acknowledged this great nation in which we live.  Ain’t that America?

The entertainment industry and I parted ways a long time ago.  Music was the first casualty.  I was a teenager in the 1980’s so when the radio stations changed their tunes and the sound I loved disappeared, I stopped listening.

Television began to fall out of my nightly routine.  Investigative news programs disappeared as fluff replaced substance.  Good shows were hard to come by as so called reality shows replaced drama.  Well thought out storylines transformed into plots of how to bring out the worst in human behavior.  Is it any wonder the younger generation doesn’t get it?  They grew up not only watching bad behavior but they watched as bad behavior was encouraged.  The government’s bad behavior is the accepted reality in our transformed country...

Good!-----Straight-ticket voting ban speeds through Michigan Senate with shield against repeal

Straight-ticket voting ban speeds through Michigan Senate with shield against repeal | MLive.com: "LANSING, MI — Michigan voters would lose the ability to cast a straight-ticket ballot for candidates of a single political party under fast-tracked legislation approved Tuesday evening in the state Senate.
The Republican-backed bill advanced through committee earlier the same day before reaching the floor, where it was amended to include a $1 million appropriation that would make it immune to referendum.
Michigan voters overturned a similar law in 2002 after Democrats forced a ballot referendum via petition drive.
The new bill would provide funding to the Michigan Secretary of State to assess the impact of eliminating straight-ticket voting, assist in ongoing fraud prevention and "provide equipment to facilitate the integrity of the election process," among other things.

How low we have fallen-----War memorial to be left blank for fear of mistakes

War memorial to be left blank for fear of mistakes - BBC News:
"A new war memorial will have no names inscribed on it in case errors are included.
The new installation will commemorate 40 soldiers from Tidworth, Wiltshire, who have died in battle since 1914.
Proposed war memorial, Tidworth, WiltshireChris Franklin, town mayor, said the memorial committee's decision to "omit the names" seemed to be "purely based on it being too much of a risk".
...But Mr Franklin said "quite a bit of research" had already been done and adding the names later would be a "bit of a damp squib".
"We're coming up to Remembrance and the normal saying is - When you go home tell them of us and say: for your tomorrow we gave our today," he said.
"The clue there is 'tell them of us' - if there's no names they can't tell us."
The £130,000 granite memorial is due to be in place next year."

Britain: Celebs in Poppy Appeal Video, Encourage Public to Observe Two Minute Silence on November 11

Britain: Celebs in Poppy Appeal Video, Encourage Public to Observe Two Minute Silence on November 11:
November 11 is Armistice Day, the day that marks the end of the Great War 97 years ago, the signing of the armistice.
And it was King George V who introduced the observation of the Two Minute Silence on the above-mentioned day.
“”At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, there may be a brief space of two minutes, a complete suspension of all our normal activities,” were the monarch’s words.
However, a recent survey revealed shocking results about how the current British public see the observation.
Reportedly, 38% of the population have no plans to observe the Two Minute Silence this year. Additionally, the survey showed that 45% of the population – that’s almost half – admitted that though they would observe the Two Minute Silence, they would do so while doing their normal activities with 12% using social media, 17% emailing and 18% checking the internet.
What’s more, when it came to the 18-25 age bracket, just a little above half of the population [51%] are planning to observe the Two Minute Silence on Armistice Day while 67% did not even know when Armistice Day really is.
In line to this, celebs like Cheryl Fernandez-Orsini, Olly Murs and Rita Ora took part in the poppy appeal video encouraging the public to take part of the Two Minute Silence on Wednesday . . . in proper silence.
The trio are joined by more celebrities like Lord Alan Sugar, Nick Grimshaw, Andrew Flintoff and Caroline Flack. They make the call by holding a poppy against their closed lips.
The two-minute video appeal for the Two Minute Silence was released by the Royal British Legion.

Modern life is lived at an incredibly fast place.
But it is hugely important that people find the time to remember and respect those that have sacrificed – and continue to make sacrifice – in the service of our country,” retired Rev. Nigel McCulloch, the Royal British Legion’s National Chaplain, said.

Veterans Day 2015 Proud to be an American

Fraud patriotism------Report highlights the obscene price of NFL's paid patriotism

Report highlights the obscene price of NFL's paid patriotism | Sport | The Guardian
Who would have known many of those smiling soldiers on the football stadium scoreboard, the ones home from war, were for sale?
The stadium announcers never said this as they demanded fans stand and applaud the waving men on the screen.
Somehow they forget to mention that the defense department has sold these soldiers’ names and stories and plights for the fiction that this tender moment came without a check written to the home team.
By late Wednesday afternoon the depth of just how much patriotism the defense department has been selling to sports teams had come clear in a report commissioned by Republican senators John McCain and Jeff Flake – both of Arizona.
And it was extreme, if not obscene.
According to the report, taxpayers spent close to $7m on patriotic displays at professional and college sporting events over the last four years.
This included the unfurling of a gigantic flag held by service members at an Atlanta Falcons game, the re-enlistment ceremony for 10 soldiers at Seattle’s Century Link Field and the recognition of Air Force officers at a Los Angeles Galaxy soccer game.
In fact the report lists 74 pages of examples where military branches (mostly the National Guard) paid more than 50 sports teams for patriotic acts that were disguised as benevolent contributions by the teams themselves.

With His Navigator Halfway Out The Plane, The Pilot Did This To Save Him - World War Wings

With His Navigator Halfway Out The Plane, The Pilot Did This To Save Him - World War Wings
Thanks To The Pilots Forethought And Skill, He Managed To Save His Partner
This is both a story of really bad luck coupled with extremely important decisions made in a very short period of time.
While Lt. Mark Baden and Lt. Keith Gallagher were flying their A-6 Intruder during a routine mission in July, 1991, tragedy struck before anyone knew what happened.
While pulling negative Gs when coming down, the rear part of the canopy cracked and half ejected; Lt. Gallagher from the plane.
Held only by his parachute straps, he was pinned against his seat in the wind blast unable to breathe.
Pain, confusion, panic, fear and denial surged through my brain and body as a new development occurred to me: I couldn’t breathe. -Lt. Keith Gallagher
Trying to pull his ejection handle, he realized that his seat was not going anywhere.
He struggled in his helpless position until he lost consciousness.
Pilot Lt. Baden, realizing what happened, assessed the situation quickly.
He lowered the speed of the aircraft near stall speed and within 6 minutes was lining up to land on the USS Abraham Lincoln.
Making sure he caught the first wire as slowly as possible he also managed to pull the front gear up to make sure his partner didn’t get impaled on the broken canopy.
In the end, what caused this accident was the stress on the plexiglass of the canopy and the ejection seat being faulty.
The stress of the canopy made it crack, sliding the ejection seat partially out and deploying Gallagher’s parachute which pulled him out.

BREAKING: US Special Ops Is Sick of Obama, Unleash Their Rage With HUGE Announcement:

"President Barack Obama is unwilling to do anything in his final years as U.S. president that might be contrary to the legacy he wishes to preserve. That’s the conclusion of top U.S. special operations commanders meeting in Tampa for a special ops forum."

Appeals Court Stops Obama’s Executive Amnesty

Appeals Court Stops Obama’s Executive Amnesty:

“Today, the Fifth Circuit asserted that the separation of powers remains the law of the land, and the president must follow the rule of law, just like everybody else,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement obtained Monday night by Breitbart Texas. “Throughout this process, the Obama Administration has aggressively disregarded the constitutional limits on executive power, and Texas, leading a charge of 26 states, has secured an important victory to put a halt to the president’s lawlessness.”

“I commend Gov. Abbott for his leadership on this issue,” Paxton continued, “as well as the talent and hard work of Texas Solicitor General Scott Keller, who along with his team has so eloquently and expertly argued our case.”

Apple's Tim Cook declares the end of the PC and hints at new medical product - Telegraph:

It is striking how little has changed in the average office over the past decade. There are more beards, fewer ties and the internet is even more central, but workers still sit in front of computers of one kind or other. Some use laptops; most others are wedded to their desktops, especially among the corporate rank and file. Unlike in the consumer world, where phones and tablets have revolutionised consumption habits, PCs remain kings of the workplace.
But time may finally be running out for the traditional computer. Looking at the shiny new super-sized iPad Pros tucked away in a special room on the third floor of Apple’s flagship Covent Garden store, complete with detachable keyboards, split view functionality and Apple Pencil stylus, it is clear that the world’s largest company has radical plans to change the way we work.

House GOP seeks flood of foreign ‘guest workers’

House GOP seeks flood of foreign ‘guest workers’:

Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., (Photo: U.S. House Ways and Means Committee)

The first immigration bill introduced under Rep. Paul Ryan’s speakership Wednesday would bypass the annual 66,000 cap on H-2B work visas by allowing foreigners admitted in any of the three previous years to remain and not be subject to the cap.

Critics say it will lead to more competition for what are often middle-class American jobs and will eventually lead to more illegal immigrants as the foreign workers overstay their visas.
The H-2B is considered a “seasonal” work permit for lower-skilled workers such as cooks, construction workers, hospitality, theme park employment, maintenance, forestry, seafood processing, cruise ship employees and truck driving among many other jobs.
It differs from the H-1B, which is for skilled guest-workers and also is the subject of pending legislation sponsored by Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who wants to triple the number issued to foreign workers each year.
The cap exemption on the H-2B expired in 2007. At the time, it doubled the number but it could as much as quadruple, legislative sources told WND. This is the same way the total number of existing H-1B visa workers got so much higher than the annual inflow.

"Taliban now killing each other over succession:

Afghanistan - Taliban insurgents loyal to rival leaders have been fighting in a southeastern province of Afghanistan, where about 50 men on both sides have been killed in two days, an Afghan official said Sunday. Fighters in a breakaway faction led by Mullah Mohammad Rasool have been joined by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants, according to Mohmand Nostrayar, governor of the Arghandab district of Zabul province. Rasool was elected "supreme leader" of the Taliban last week by a faction that does not support Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, who assumed power after the death of Taliban founder

Now, for those who missed it, 0bama has proclaimed that the Taliban (he can´t pronounce it right) our new friends in the Middle East. Wonder if this is some test to see if winner gets all. Either 0bama is suddenly a savvy leader, or just plain lucky that he´s not expending Hellfire missiles to do the job."

Release the Records: Ben Carson vs. Barack Obama, College Edition | TheBlaze.com:

"Apples to apples. The media is trying to disqualify Dr. Carson’s right to the presidency based on his college records. Why did they never check Obama’s college records? Why are Obama’s Columbia records STILL sealed seven years into his presidency?

The media anxiously called West Point demanding to verify Dr. Carson’s claims, but never called Columbia to verify Obama’s claims. Why? If claims about college from 30 or 40 years ago are important for Dr. Carson, why not Obama?

Did Obama make false claims about his college experience? No one can prove it (yet) because his college records are sealed. Why? What is he hiding?"

Clinton making gender a focus of her presidential bid - The Washington Post

Clinton making gender a focus of her presidential bid - The Washington Post:

As the Democratic presidential candidates prepare for their second debate next weekend, a disputed moment of alleged sexism from the first exchange has come to symbolize a sharper and more personal confrontation between Hillary Rodham Clinton and her chief rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders.
The topic was gun control, the issue her campaign considers the keenest policy difference between Clinton and Sanders, and perhaps the only one on which he is positioned to her right. But it was Clinton’s suggestion, after the fact, that Sanders (I-Vt.) had spoken to her in a patronizing and dismissive way by accusing her of shouting that has added an edge to an almost painfully polite primary contest.

Seems reasonable!
