Eduardo Gonzalez-Rios, a 29-year-old Mexican national, had no prior criminal history in Dallas County, according to the Dallas Morning News, before a Monday night encounter with Senior Corporal Ed Lujan, who was working an off-duty job in uniform when Gonzalez-Rios ran over him twice outside the Kalua Discotheque.
Police say Lujan, who is in stable condition, suffered numerous broken bones and cuts on his scalp. The attack by Gonzalez-Rios prompted Sgt. Shannon Browning and Senior Corporal Antonio Barrientos to fire at Gonzalez-Rios.
...U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Carl Rusnok says Gonzalez-Rios had been deported numerous times.
According to the local TV station WFAA, he was first caught in the U.S. illegally in 2004 near Harlingen, Texas, and was deported the same day. He tried again in May 2005, but was caught once more and returned the same day.
In September 2011, he made it to Kansas City, Missouri, and was deported a third time..."

Scientists and lawmakers are placing the blame for recent wildfires on President Barack Obama’s policies, not global warming.

“Our nation’s forests are sick and flammable, but they don’t have to be. Proper management would increase their resilience to wildfires.” said Julia Slingsby, Press Secretary of the House Committee on Natural Resources to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Unfortunately, radical environmental groups are hold our nation’s forests hostage. The President should move beyond forums and solve the wildfire problem by supporting the Resilient Federal Forests Act which was passed by the House this summer. This legislation stops lawsuits which derail forest management and treats the real cause of wildfires, the sick state of our nation’s forest.”

The Obama administration released a wildfire prevention plan Tuesday that blamed global warming for worsening fires, but environmental lawsuits and Obama’s own policies, not global warming, have made the recent fires worse these experts contend.

Scientists who study global warming and fire behavior doubt the link between recent wildfires and global warming. University of Colorado climate change specialist Roger Pielke Jr. even told the Los Angeles Times in October that other Democrats, specifically California’s Governor Brown, is engaging in “noble-cause corruption” to make a political, rather than scientific, case against global warming. Pielke goes on to say that attempts to attribute recent wildfires to climate changes goes against the findings of scientists.

This morning, Klein Oak High School held what it called a Unity meeting. Some parents say they're upset because only African-American students were allowed to attend.

Rhodes is not happy that Klein Oaks would hold a Unity meeting solely for African-American students, a meeting she knew nothing about until our reports this morning.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Amanda Blackburn, a pregnant pastor's wife shot in her home Tuesday morning during an apparent robbery, was removed from a ventilator Thursday and has died, officials said.

The Marion County Coroner's office confirmed Blackburn, 28, was moved from the hospital and pronounced dead after her organs were donated. An autopsy will be performed.

The church founder and young mother was critically injured in the shooting around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Her imminent death spurred a surge of sympathy and prayers on social media Tuesday and Wednesday as friends, family members and strangers mourned with public posts. Blackburn had been shot in the head, officials said.

Blackburn and her husband Davey Blackburn moved to Indianapolis in 2012 from South Carolina to start the independent Resonate Church on the city's north side. They have a toddler son, Weston.

The Christian family was growing, as the couple had just announced Amanda Blackburn was 12 weeks pregnant with her second child.

"My wife was such a beautiful, gracious, loving woman of God. I have not only lost my ministry partner and support but also my very best friend," Davey Blackburn said in a statement Wednesday. "There is no way to prepare yourself for circumstances like these. As deeply as I am hurting I am hopeful and confident that good things will come of this."

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police detectives are investigating the shooting as a robbery, but police have revealed few details about the attack. No suspect information has been released to the public.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Sgt. Kendale Adams said detectives are "following up on several leads."

New studies flip climate-change notions upside down

The sun will go into "hibernation" mode around 2030, and it has already started to get sleepy. At the Royal Astronomical Society's annual meeting in July, Professor Valentina Zharkova of Northumbria University in the UK confirmed it - the sun will begin its Maunder Minimum (Grand Solar Minimum) in 15 years. Other scientists had suggested years ago that this change was imminent, but Zharkova's model is said to have near-perfect accuracy.

So what is a "solar minimum"?

Our sun doesn't maintain a constant intensity. Instead, it cycles in spans of approximately 11 years. When it's at its maximum, it has the highest number of sunspots on its surface in that particular cycle. When it's at its minimum, it has almost none. When there are more sunspots, the sun is brighter. When there are fewer, the sun radiates less heat toward Earth.

But that's not the only cooling effect of a solar minimum. A dim sun doesn't deflect cosmic rays away from Earth as efficiently as a bright sun. So, when these rays enter our atmosphere, they seed clouds, which in turn cool our planet even more and increase precipitation in the form of rain, snow and hail.

Since the early 1800s we have enjoyed healthy solar cycles and the rich agriculture and mild northern temperatures that they guarantee. During the Middle Ages, however, Earth felt the impact of four solar minimums over the course of 400 years.

The last Maunder Minimum and its accompanying mini-Ice Age saw the most consistent cold, continuing into the early 1800s.

"We need to activate the Tennessee National Guard and stop them from coming in to the state by whatever means we can," said House GOP Caucus Chairman Glen Casada, R-Franklin, referencing refugees.

"I’m not worried about what a bureaucrat in D.C. or an unelected judge thinks. ... We need to gather (Syrian refugees) up and politely take them back to the ICE center and say, 'They’re not coming to Tennessee, they’re yours.' "

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 17% favor such prosecutions.

The Young America’s Foundation “exclusively obtained a private message from students at the University of Missouri” advising peers to “arm themselves with tasers and pepper spray.” Also, TheBlaze reported that black students are being advised by peers and on social media to get weapons, presumably to protect themselves against vague, unsubstantiated hate crimes.

As pointed out at theBlaze, “Students and supporters on social media have also called for black students to arm themselves while on campus.”  But the incidents that have led up to the insanity are highly questionable. Back in September, University of Missouri Student Body President Payton Head “reported that people shouted racial slurs at him from a passing pickup truck, galvanizing the protest movement.” There was also a completely unsubstantiated account of a feces swastika.  Today, it was reported that Payton Head further posted about the Ku Klux Klan being on campus, then deleted the post:

"A Novi-based news site has discovered that two cities in southeast Michigan are paying the same man to be their full-time finance directors, and as a result, he is collecting two salaries that come to $205,000 a year.
Novi.org reported that the city of Novi’s finance director Carl Johnson is also collecting a salary to be the full-time finance director for the city of Oak Park.
Novi hired Johnson in January 2014.
Before that, he was a partner at the accounting firm Plante Moran, PLLC.
Novi City Manager Pete Auger says he is aware that Johnson is also a full-time director at Oak Park and thinks he can do both jobs.
Oak Park City Manager Erik Tungate said he was aware of Johnson’s position with Novi when Johnson was hired in July 2015.
“I have the utmost faith, and Carl has thus far proven, that he can fulfill the job requirements I have set forth for finance director for the city of Oak Park,” Tungate said in an email.
“In addition, given Carl’s previous status as a partner at Plante & Moran handling several jurisdictions’ finance departments, I consider it a benefit for us to have him focused almost entirely on ours. …
If his status changes, or his performance becomes an issue, he is aware that I will track in a new direction.”
Tungate added:
“We are a very financially stable community with a cumulative general fund balance ranging near 15 percent.
During my three years as city manager, I have reformed this local government from top to bottom.
I have also hired a good number of department heads who are top performers.
Carl is no exception.”
Novi.org reported that Johnson makes $90,000 a year at Oak Park and $115,000 a year at Novi.
“It makes me wonder if both cities really need a full-time salaried director,” said Leon Drolet, chair of the Michigan Taxpayers Alliance.
“One would think that two cities that share a manager would coordinate and share the costs.”
Johnson didn’t respond to an email seeking comment."

A short time after protesters trampled and tried to burn the American flag, police officers Joel Rossman, Jedidiah Thompson and Jutiki X recovered it.
The Milwaukee Police Department posted several photos, as well as a video, showing the officers picking it up, folding it properly and saluting it.
Police said protesters circulated rumors than officers had deployed tear gas when in reality, they had used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
According to the Facebook posting, officers held a “conducted a small, dignified ceremony” for the flag, folding it and taking it “to be inventoried for possible charges against the protester.”
