Political debates can seem a long way away when you’re in a room alone with your credit card bill, but commonsense policy reforms at every level of government could save Americans money.
I looked at dozens of studies and did some math of my own, and I found that just 12 important reforms could save the average American household $4,440 every year.
Some of those savings would come from lower prices on everyday purchases, such as food and gas; some would come on big-ticket items, such as cars and houses.
Two federal reforms could lower the price of gas by 31 cents per gallon.
Repealing the 1975 crude oil export ban would allow U.S. oil to be shipped to the refineries that are best equipped to turn it into gasoline for American travelers, thus lowering the price.
Congress recently passed a bill that would lift the ban, but President Barack Obama has threatened to veto it.
The second reform that would save Americans money on gas is to end the failed experiment with corn-based ethanol.
The ethanol mandate, officially known as the Renewable Fuel Standard, dilutes gasoline with ethanol, which is less efficient and costs more.
Not only would repeal of the ethanol mandate lower the price of gas by 19 cents a gallon, but it would also save the average household $1.65 a week on groceries by letting farms do what they do best: grow food.
Two other reforms would lower the cost of a new car by $5,750...."

It is simply false to declare that jihadists represent the “tiny few extremists” who sully the reputation of an otherwise peace-loving and tolerant Muslim faith.
In reality, the truth is far more troubling — that jihadists represent the natural and inevitable outgrowth of a faith that is given over to hate on a massive scale, with hundreds of millions of believers holding views that Americans would rightly find revolting.
Not all Muslims are hateful, of course, but so many are that it’s not remotely surprising that the world is wracked by wave after wave of jihadist violence.
To understand the Muslim edifice of hate, imagine it as a pyramid — with broadly-shared bigotry at the bottom, followed by stair steps of escalating radicalism — culminating in jihadist armies that in some instances represent a greater share of their respective populations than does the active-duty military in the United States.
The base of the pyramid, the most broadly held hatred in the Islamic world, is anti-Semitism, with staggering numbers of Muslims expressing anti-Jewish views.
In 2014, the Anti-Defamation League released the results of polling 53,100 people in 102 countries for evidence of anti-Semitic attitudes and beliefs.
The numbers from the majority-Muslim world are difficult to believe for those steeped in politically correct rhetoric about Islam.
A full 74 percent of North African and Middle Eastern residents registered anti-Semitic beliefs, including 92 percent of Iraqis, a whopping 69 percent of relatively secular Turks, and 74 percent of Saudis.
...The latest polling data show that while a majority of Muslims reject ISIS, extrapolating from the populations of polled countries alone shows that roughly 50 million people express sympathy for a terrorist army that burns prisoners alive, throws gay men from buildings, and beheads political opponents.
In Pakistan a horrifying 72 percent couldn’t bring themselves to express an unfavorable view of ISIS.

The message touches on recent terrorist attacks and condemns politically correct politicians that he believes enables terrorists to repeatedly attack and kill innocent people.
Ivey encourages decision makers to talk straight with the public, to confront terrorists, and asks the public to prepare for the possibility of violent confrontations by arming themselves with weapons and knowledge.

“The purpose of this … is to tell our citizens that if a terrorist attack or active shooter scenario can happen in California, Texas, South Carolina, or Paris, it can happen right here in our own back yard,”
“Now, more than ever before is the time for law enforcement and our citizens to be fully prepared to immediately respond to an attack or active shooter scenario with the right tools to eliminate, or at the very least disrupt the attack.

A woman calls 911 because her ex boyfriend is outside her home trying to break in.

The dispatcher basically says "can you call a friend, there aren't any police available".
A few hours later the woman was beaten and raped.

"ATLANTA/SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (Reuters) - At a gun range in Atlanta on Sunday, four days after the deadliest Islamic State-inspired attack on American soil, Brandon Langley practiced firing his AR-15 semiautomatic assault rifle.
“If people were armed, it would have changed the outcome totally,” Langley said of Wednesday’s assault by a heavily armed husband and wife that killed 14 people and wounded 21 in San Bernardino, California.
“Instead of 14 victims, there would have been zero, except for those two (attackers).”
Many Americans agree and are stocking up on weapons after the country’s worst mass shooting in three years.
Gun retailers are reporting surging sales, with customers saying they want to keep handguns and rifles at hand for self-defense in the event of another attack.
“Everyone is reporting up, every store, every salesman, every distributor,” said Ray Peters, manager of Range, Guns & Safes, a company that sells firearms and safes in Atlanta with an indoor firing range.
“People are more aware of the need to protect themselves.”
Peters usually carries a pistol with him.
But since last week’s shooting, he says he’s added a Ruger semiautomatic rifle..."
