They won't cover the left-wing mobs, but they'll cover Republicans' reaction

They won't cover the left-wing mobs, but they'll cover Republicans' reaction
"Whenever there’s a story that could make Democratic lawmakers and their supporters look insane or unworthy of voters’ trust, some major newsroom rushes to make the real story about how conservatives are exploiting the moment.
It’s the “Republicans pounce” or the “ Republicans seize” trope, and it has become more predictable over time.

  • Left-wing agitators have recently chased Republican lawmakers and White House officials from restaurants.
  • Left-wing demonstrators also came out in force last week during the fight to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
  • They have disrupted hearings and floor proceedings and intimidated lawmakers. Two protesters notably cornered Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., in an elevator, berating him for roughly 10 minutes over his decision to support the judge.
  • Other lawmakers, including Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, were also followed and scolded by teams of angry demonstrators.
  • On Saturday, as the U.S. Senate prepared to vote to confirm Kavanaugh, police in the nation’s capital arrested more than 100 protesters, many of whom had broken past barricades set up around the Capitol building.

Republicans, including President Trump himself, have referred to these bands of irate, screaming individuals as a “mob.”
"You don't hand matches to an arsonist, and you don't give power to an angry left-wing mob. Democrats have become too EXTREME and TOO DANGEROUS to govern," the president tweeted Saturday.
"Republicans believe in the rule of law - not the rule of the mob. VOTE REPUBLICAN!"
In a normal world, this wouldn’t be that controversial.
Indeed, as anyone who remembers as far back as 2009 can attest, using the word “mob” to refer to groups of angry political protesters is not exactly breaking new ground.
But we’re not in normal times, and certain newsrooms need to find ways to make the story of Republicans being targeted by angry demonstrators about ... how Republicans are exploiting the story.
Enter NPR, which ran a story this week titled, “ Republicans Seize On 'Angry Mob' Mantra To Keep Their Midterm Base Fired Up.” They even used the very phrase "Republicans Seize"!...

Wayne County Pensions Underwater; Union Sues To Preserve ‘13th Check’

‘A ridiculous practice’; pension fund is 43 percent short of amount needed to pay regular benefits

"...The union had sued to retain the benefit, which the county halted in 2015.
The county began paying the “13th check,” a pension boost to retirees, back in the in the 1980s, in the name of compensating them for inflation. Pensioners ordinarily get one check a month, or 12 checks a year.
The 13th check is a bonus.
...Michigan’s 83 counties had promised to pay out $2.55 billion more in pension benefits than they had set aside for retirees as Aug. 2016.
Only two counties didn’t have pension debt in 2016: Bay and Kalamazoo. Further, as of 2016, the average city in Michigan only had the assets necessary to cover 67 percent of promised pension benefits — with an underfunding total of more than $5.4 billion."

Brett Kavanaugh Fight: Black Men Supported Justice Because They Understood Stakes | National Review
"...Last September Emily Yoffe wrote a troubling essay (also in The Atlantic) detailing how preliminary evidence indicates that campus courts are disproportionately punishing black men.
See the source imageThese tribunals, animated by the very “believe survivors” ideology of Kavanaugh’s opponents, are imposing terrible consequences on young African-Americans, often stemming from morning-after regret amplified by racial differences.
Yoffe quotes Harvard Law professor Janet Halley:
“American racial history is laced with vendetta-like scandals in which black men are accused of sexually assaulting white women,” followed eventually by the revelation “that the accused men were not wrongdoers at all.”
She writes that “morning-after remorse can make sex that seemed like a good idea at the time look really alarming in retrospect; and the general social disadvantage that black men continue to carry in our culture can make it easier for everyone in the adjudicative process to put the blame on them.”...
...The bottom line is that opponents of Kavanaugh didn’t just want to stop Kavanaugh, they wanted to create a cultural moment that many black men are very wise to be wary of.
“Believe survivors” is a slogan that resonates far beyond one single judicial confirmation.
It’s the slogan of campus “justice” that all too often echoes the injustice of America’s racist past..."

See the source image"James Hodgkinson seems to have slipped down the memory hole.

  • Hodgkinson was the left-wing activist who accused Donald Trump and Mike Pence of treason and — “fueled by rage against Republican legislators,” as the Virginia attorney general put it — attempted to massacre a group of Republican congressmen practicing for a baseball game.
  • He shot Representative Steve Scalise, along with a Capitol Police officer and two others, and very likely would have murdered a goodly chunk of the GOP caucus if not for the police assigned to protect Scalise, the majority whip.
  • Senator Rand Paul was there, too, and escaped injury — that time: A few months later, he was attacked while mowing his lawn, suffering six broken ribs. The man who attacked him, Rene Boucher, is a left-wing Chomskyite social-media rage-artist who wrote about his desire to see someone “fry Trump’s gonads.”
  • In 2013, a gunman attacked the conservative Family Research Council.
  • In 2016, Micah Xavier Johnson massacred police officers in Dallas.
  • Before that, five men associated with the Occupy movement made plans to blow up a bridge in Ohio.

As Trump nears the two-year mark of his historic election and conducts political rallies around the country, during which he talks up his wins in hopes it will energize Republican voters, the administration has counted up 289 accomplishments in 18 categories, capped by the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court..."

Economic Growth
  • 4.2 percent growth in the second quarter of 2018.
  • For the first time in more than a decade, growth is projected to exceed 3 percent over the calendar year.

  • 4 million new jobs have been created since the election, and more than 3.5 million since Trump took office.

ME, A WEEK AGO ON WHAT TO EXPECT POST-KAVANAUGH

OCTOBER 13, 2018--ME, A WEEK AGO ON WHAT TO EXPECT POST-KAVANAUGH:
►Strange new respect for judicial minimalism. As Harvard Law professor Adrian Vermeule remarked, “Law review editors: brace for a tidal wave of legal academic theories supporting judicial minimalism, Thayerianism, and strong — very strong — theories of precedent. Above all: the Court must do nothing without bipartisan agreement, otherwise it is illegitimate.” The past half-century’s enthusiasm for judicial activism will vanish, as legal academia turns on a dime to promote theories that will constrain the court until a left-leaning majority returns, at which point they’ll turn on a dime again.

►New disrespect for the court: . . . If the court shifts right as expected, you can also expect legal academia and the news media, both of which lean very heavily to the left, to shift quite rapidly from near worship of the court to nonstop denigration. Some on the left are already talking openly of packing the court with additional seats, as Roosevelt tried to, if they get back in power. Others are talking about impeaching Kavanaugh, because, well, of course.

Washington Post Perspectives: Last night I told my husband 'I hate all men and wish all men were dead'

"Now for something completely different.
The Washington Post has a “Post Everything” section where it posts opinion pieces from people who aren’t regular writers for the paper.
Today, the Post published a piece that really seemed out there.
It’s titled, “Thanks for not raping us, all you ‘good men.’ But it’s not enough.”
If you guessed from the title that this is not going to be a carefully reasoned piece, you guessed right.
It opens with author Victoria Bissell Brown, a retired history professor, screaming at her husband over something she admits was a very trivial comment:
I yelled at my husband last night. Not pick-up-your-socks yell. Not how-could-you-ignore-that-red-light yell. This was real yelling. This was 30 minutes of from-the-gut yelling. Triggered by a small, thoughtless, dismissive, annoyed, patronizing comment. Really small. A micro-wave that triggered a hurricane. I blew. Hard and fast. And it terrified me. I’m still terrified by what I felt and what I said. I am almost 70 years old. I am a grandmother. Yet in that roiling moment, screaming at my husband as if he represented every clueless male on the planet (and I every angry woman of 2018), I announced that I hate all men and wish all men were dead...

Facebook Cleans House - Purges Several Top Conservative Pages FOUR WEEKS BEFORE ELECTION
"On Thursday Facbeook announced the company took action on 559 Pages and 251 accounts that violated their “spam” and coordinated “inauthentic behavior” policies.
Facebook said most of those affected were political pages....

And now, several hours later, we are hearing that most of the purged political pages were on the right.

Facebook purged several conservative sites just four weeks before the election and without warning.
Facebook took down Right Wing News – a conservative page with over 3 million followers.
Brian Kolfage at Right Wing News reported:
I have been managing the Right Wing News Facebook page, and have been involved with the brand for many years.
And just today, Facebook took down our Facebook page, cutting off all contact we had with the millions of people who signed up to follow us, the millions of people who liked what we were sharing online.
I took over managing the page when John Hawkins decided to step aside to pursue other endeavors. John and I have a great relationship and I was honored to have the torch passed down to me. We had a coveted, verified blue check mark 3.5 Million fans, and I invested over $300,000 in ads at Facebook’s own request, nearly begging us to spend spend spend just to reach our fans … whom they kept making more difficult to reach with every passing year.

...No one from Facebook has reached out to any of these Facebook page owners to discuss their concerns..."
