• almost billion dollar budget deficit, 
• bonds rated at junk status or below, 
• numerous extremely costly legal judgments, 
• a shrinking tax base, and 
• unfunded public pension liabilities to the tune of an astonishing $42 billion.

Other than that, it's a great place to live.

The state of Illinois has its own financial troubles, so the city can expect little or no help there. 

...The shrinking tax base is clear proof that citizens are already over taxed. 
And since it's Democrats in charge, there won't be much cutting of city services.

The only option for Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the city council is restructuring the city's massive debts. 

In other words: bankruptcy...

Requiring “universal background checks” on private sales, according to the National Institute of Justice, involves one additional step: “effectiveness depends on ... requiring gun registration.” So that’s the necessary next step. But don’t hold your breath waiting for criminals and crazies to do background checks on each other.
As for “assault weapons”—the propagandistic euphemism for common semiautomatic rifles possessed by millions of Americans—President Bill Clinton signed a law in 1994 banning them; it expired 10 years later. The law was not renewed when the data showed it had no effect on crime. Since it did nothing, why not enact yet another useless version?

He almost certainly doesn’t realize it, but Beto O’Rourke is likely to be the worst thing to happen to the gun-control movement in decades — and, if he continues in this mode, he may turn out to be the worst thing to happen to the Democratic party in a long time, too. In Houston last night, O’Rourke abandoned his cloying euphemisms (“mandatory buybacks”) and delivered a deliberate, carefully scripted endorsement of gun confiscation, which, within minutes, his campaign began to sell on t-shirts. “Hell yes,” Beto said, “we’re going to take your AR-15.”

​​​​Thus, upon the instant, did two decades’ worth of Democratic rhetoric go up in a puff of smoke.

“’That clip will be played for years at Second Amendment rallies,’ said Dem Sen. Chris Coons to CNN this morning of O’Rourke’s vow to confiscate assault weapons.”
Add that the Democrats’ “ban all the things” rhetoric at the CNN “climate change town hall” from last week, and it begs the question: what’s left that they don’t want to ban? "More than 1.2 million American households moved to above $50,000 in annual income between 2016 and 2018, according to Census Bureau data released on Sept. 10, a sign of a growing middle class.
While in 2016, some 58.5 percent of households enjoyed more than $50,000 in total money income, the share rose to more than 60 percent in 2018. 
The median household income, meanwhile, rose by nearly 2.3 percent—with all figures adjusted for inflation.
...The progress has been even more apparent for black Americans, whose unemployment rate dropped below 7 percent for the first time in December 2017 and in May 2018 fell further to 5.9 percent. 
That record held for more than a year until it was also shattered in August as the rate hit 5.5 percent..."
