"GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Four Grand Rapids Public Schools employee labor groups, including the teachers union, will get salary and step increases in December under a deal announced Thursday, Oct. 30.
"The Board of Education and I are very pleased to be able to make this investment in our talented educators and support staff," said Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal, about the $5 million agreement that affects 2,210 employees, which she intends to extend to the other three unions.
"They have earned it, they deserve it, and this is completely in line with the goals of the GRPS Transformation Plan.
In order for GRPS to be competitive in this new educational marketplace, we need to retain and attract the top educational talent...
