The argument I hear from Democrats about Trump firing the BLS head, Erika McEntarfer, is that this is what dictators and authoritarians do - and she is just in charge of the agency, she doesn't do the stats, and she only edits the text of the reports and makes sure everybody gets their paychecks.

I wanted her fired a long time ago, and I'm not an authoritarian or a dictator. - Michael Smith
This is why:
  • - For 2023, job growth was overestimated by 770,000 jobs, with the annual growth rate dropping from 2% to 1.5%.
  • - For the year ending March 2024, including monthly revisions, the Biden administration overstated job growth by 1.18 million jobs (36% of the 3.24 million initially claimed).
Now for the most recent:
  • - May 2025: Revised down by 125,000 jobs (from 144,000 to 19,000).
  • - June 2025: Revised down by 133,000 jobs (from 147,000 to 14,000).
Combined, these revisions reduced job growth by 258,000 jobs.
  • That is a 600% error in two months.
Are they rolling dice or throwing darts at a spreadsheet pinned to the wall?...
