Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini is sounding the alarm about non-citizens in the states jury pools and voter registration database, exposing serious weaknesses in Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s office.
“Non-citizens are coming through at an alarming rate,” Forlini, a Republican vying to replace Benson in 2026, said at a press conference on Monday. “Our jury service summons are based on random draws from the driver’s license bank. Frequently non-citizens slip through because citizenship was not flagged in the Secretary of State database.”
The issue came to light during routine reviews of prospective jurors for Macomb County’s 16th Judicial Circuit Court, which are are generated through random selections from the Secretary of State’s driver’s license database.
