It's called...LYING!-----Phil Jones discussing an apparent temperature decline in recent decades with his colleagues.

The correspondence shows two different data sets being combined, what Jones himself called a trick to create a preferred impression.  - The Randall Carlson
The manipulation wasn't just acknowledged in the emails, it was embedded in the actual coding instructions.
  • One line of code explicitly described how to adjust the output to hide the decline.
  • This wasn't interpretation or context, it was right there in the technical documentation.
  • He points out that when scientists are writing code to conceal inconvenient trends rather than explain them, something fundamental has shifted.
The question becomes whether this represents isolated poor judgment or a broader pattern of shaping data to fit predetermined conclusions.
