As the granddaughter of Cuban immigrants...

As the granddaughter of Cuban immigrants,... - Hayes Family Alaska | Facebook - Hayes Family Alaska
I have heard the stories my whole life.
  • Not textbook stories.
  • Family stories.
  • Real stories.
Stories of people fleeing the only country they ever knew because communism did not show up wearing a monster mask.
  • It showed up making promises. Promises of fairness. Promises of equality.
Promises that the government would take care of everyone.
  • And then came the hunger.
  • The control.
  • The fear.
  • The silence.
  • The suffering.
My great aunt in Cuba often skips meals so she can feed her dog her portion.
Sit with that for a minute.
  • So when I hear politicians in America smiling on camera and selling socialism like it is some shiny new idea, I want to scream...
