Victory for the People: Tea Party Lawsuit Against Obama’s IRS Moves Forward in the Courts:
"This lawsuit demonstrates a truly terrifying view of government as the IRS had claimed that the people of America had no right to answers from their government. Judge Dlott disagreed and issued a status conference date to ensure that the case does not linger any longer than is necessary."

Soooo, aborting a baby cuz it's a black baby is OK. And you don't want no black baby! But banning an abortion based on race is RACIST?!!!!-----ACLU, NAACP file new lawsuit saying bill to prevent race-based abortions is racist

ACLU, NAACP file new lawsuit saying bill to prevent race-based abortions is racist | News | LifeSite:
The ACLU has asked a federal appeals court to throw out an Arizona law banning sex-selective and race-based abortions, claiming the law is itself racist.
Lawyers asked the San Francisco-based Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, one of the most overturned appeals courts in the nation, to reconsider the lawsuit filed on behalf of the NAACP and the National Asian-Pacific American Women's Forum.
Gov. Jan Brewer signed the “Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act of 2011,” making Arizona the first state to ban abortion based on racist or sexist discrimination
....But its opponents claim the law is based on racial stereotypes, and thus, a law to prevent racial discrimination is a form of discrimination.
Alexa Kolbi-Molinas of the ACLU said the state's black and Asian residents now “must endure the humiliation of living under a government that views them as a threat to American values simply by virtue of alleged character flaws possessed by persons of their race.”

Police as high-paid garbage men?-------Blight fight: Muskegon police spearhead effort to haul trash from alleys, abandoned homes

Meebee we got too many cops and not enough garbage men?
Blight fight: Muskegon police spearhead effort to haul trash from alleys, abandoned homes | MLive.com:
"The clean-up effort was a partnership between the city's police and public works departments and the Department of Corrections. Two probationers joined nearly a dozen police officers to clear 80 yards of trash from 20 city-owned properties.
Among the junk they hauled away were 79 tires, toilets, mattresses and nine junk vehicles that were located in a two-block area between Webster and Muskegon avenues.
"It doesn't take long to figure out blight and crime are connected," said Muskegon Police Chief Jeffrey Lewis.
The effort started with neighborhood police officers surveying 500 city-owned properties, including alleys, street ends, empty lots and abandoned homes that had reverted to city ownership. They ranked the properties in terms of the condition they were in, and those in the worst shape were targeted for the first round of clean-up.
As Muskegon Police Detective Capt. Shawn Bride said, it's hard to expect others to clean up their property when you're not cleaning up your own."

Justice Department Officials Can’t Answer Basic Questions About Border Crisis, IRS Investigation | TheBlaze.com

Justice Department Officials Can’t Answer Basic Questions About Border Crisis, IRS Investigation | TheBlaze.com:
"Officials from the Obama administration’s Department of Justice on Thursday struggled to answer seemingly simple questions from Republicans about the immigration crisis on the southern U.S. border and the investigation into the IRS targeting scandal.
In the Senate, the Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing to assess the situation at the border. One of the questions that worries Republicans is how many of the roughly 60,000 children who have crossed this year might eventually gain asylum in the United States."

In Detroit speech, Biden urges help for immigrants, expanding gay rights | The Detroit News:
The vice president then pivoted to his conference speech, voicing sympathy for undocumented immigrants who face deportation after entering the country illegally.
...Biden used the interruption in his speech as part of a larger message that President Barack Obama’s agenda is not complete with two-and-a-half years remaining in the administration’s second term.
“Ladies and gentlemen, there’s so much unfinished business,” he said.
Biden’s speech kicked off the four-day gathering.
....Biden began his speech by reflecting on his push inside the Obama administration to get the president to fully back marriage rights for gays and lesbians.

I'm thinkin' the frequent flier miles won't be used later on-------Woman loses relatives in 2 Malaysia air disasters

My Way News - Woman loses relatives in 2 Malaysia air disasters:
SYDNEY (AP) — In an almost incomprehensible twist of fate, an Australian woman who lost her brother in the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 learned on Friday that her stepdaughter was on the plane shot down over Ukraine.
Kaylene Mann's brother Rod Burrows and sister-in-law Mary Burrows were on board Flight 370 when it vanished in March. On Friday, Mann found out that her stepdaughter, Maree Rizk, was killed along with 297 others on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, which U.S. intelligence authorities believe was shot down by a surface-to-air missile.
"It's just brought everyone, everything back," said Greg Burrows, Mann's brother. "It's just ... ripped our guts again."
Burrows said his family was struggling to understand how they could be struck by such horrible luck on two separate occasions with the same airline.

Nasty GOPers don't get that reducing spending on democrat favorites is WAR!!!!---------Susan J. Demas: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz declares new war against America's national parks

Susan J. Demas: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz declares new war against America's national parks | MLive.com:
But sadly, our public lands are under attack -- and by members of Roosevelt's own party.
Last year, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) penned a report blasting Michigan's Isle Royale National Park and others as exemplifying the "more egregious, wasteful or otherwise questionable expenses."
The sequestration's budget cuts cost the national parks almost $200 million -- which meant closed restrooms and campsites.
And Republicans scapegoated park rangers when they shut down the government last fall, thus closing national parks and monuments like the hallowed World War II memorial in Washington, D.C.
This year, the GOP-controlled House passed a bill gutting the Antiquities Act -- one of Roosevelt's signature achievements -- which paved the way for Olympic National Park, the Grand Canyon and other gems.
Now presidential hopeful U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is on the warpath against the national parks.
This month, he slipped in a little-known amendment to the Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act that would ban the federal government from owning more than 50 percent of any land in a state. The land would be transferred to the state -- or sold "to the highest bidder," as the liberal media watchdog group Think Progress puts it.
That could devastate parks, forests and monuments in Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska.

U.S. Amb. Blames 'Climate Change' for Hotel That Collapsed 12 Yrs Ago on African Beach

U.S. Amb. Blames 'Climate Change' for Hotel That Collapsed 12 Yrs Ago on African Beach | CNS News: "U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power posted photos on Twitter Wednesday to illustrate the purported effects of climate change on a West African nation’s coastline, but the pictures show a hotel that collapsed into the sea 12 years ago, the victim of erosion blamed largely on years of illegal mining of coastal sand.
“Had sobering meeting with Benin’s U.N. Ambassador, who described the devastating effects of climate change on his coastal country,” she tweeted. “Showed me chilling photos of eroding coastline, said ‘that’s climate change – a daily life of falling in the sea.’”
Although not identified by Power, the two photos posted with the tweet are of the remains of the Palm Hotel in Cotonou, the largest city in Benin, a small, narrow country tucked between Nigeria and Togo. The building collapsed in 2002, 20 years after it was built."

"On Wednesday, it was reported that BCFS, the Baptist Child and Family Services, was awarded a $50 million grant by Obama to purchase and convert the 7 acre Palm Aire Hotel, located in Texas, into a facility to house illegal alien youth.

Lots of stink wafting from the Muskegon county building----More from the "comments"----Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler facing criminal investigation for alleged misuse of charity funds

Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler facing criminal investigation for alleged misuse of charity funds | MLive.com:
 Lance 7 hours ago
@Fruitport1  Live questions, Fruitport1.
If it wasn't a 501(c)(3), then what the heck was it?
Were the people who spent on/donated to the golf outing deducting those donation(s) on their taxes, under the impression that it was a legit charity?
Was it an official Muskegon County entity/function/department?
If it was the latter, I suppose that explains why somebody with the records went ahead and responded to a FOIA request.
(If it wasn't a "county" account, then it wouldn't ordinarily fall under state FOIA laws).
But if this thing didn't have the 501 paperwork/trimmings, and if it wasn't an official county department/fund/function, then it has all the earmarks of a common "slush fund."
What wipes me out is this: Muskegon County has legal counsel, whose job it (presumably) would be to do the 501 paperwork if the county wanted to administer a charitable fund.
Who decided it was cool to let this go un-filed for years?
From the story it looks like they were advised to have counsel square things up -- who decided "no?"
The guy using the money for his kids' college and gas money?"

From the comments. VERY interesting!-----Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler facing criminal investigation for alleged misuse of charity funds

Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler facing criminal investigation for alleged misuse of charity funds | MLive.com:

Well, would-ja check this out -- I can't vouch for its authenticity, but it looks like it speaks to my question posted below; question being, if this wasn't an official "county" thing, why the heck would it turn over anything - at all - to somebody filing a FOIA request?

[I wouldn't call this first-class legal work, by the way.  There are only two proper answers to a FOIA request -- a) turn over everything the law requires, if 's a qualifying public entity that's being queried; or  b) don't turn anything over, if it isn't.  Turning over some documents, and not others, is the "worst of all worlds," so to speak.]

Anyhow, if the letter at that link is to be believed, it looks like various people on the county's payroll believed it was a "county" thing -- some may have used official letterhead, worked on it while on payroll, blah blah.  But then when the county was sued under FOIA for records (again, if this letter is to be believed), why, then, here comes the county, with "muchos affidavitos" about how it's not an official "county" thing.

Here's why it's relevant: allegedly taking money from a charity is one thing.  Allegedly taking money from an official county fund (whether charitable or not) is quite another.  Allegedly (or, admittedly) using county resources to raise money for an arguably-private charity (if the county doesn't approve/maintain/sponsor it) is yet a third thing.

But allegedly using the mail and/or the telephones to raise money in the county's name, if it's not, in fact, a "county" deal, would be not just a fourth thing -- it could be a "federal" thing (tax implications aside).

Oh, and the second-worst piece of lawyering on full display here?  Letting your client talk directly to the cops.  However this goes, I do hope Mr. Roesler considers trying to get his fees back for that "oops."

Oh, mannnn...  sometimes I almost wish I didn't have a J.D., so I wouldn't know what to look for in a purported letter like this: http://www.johnjayjurkas.com/righttoknow/Documents/letter1.pdf

If this claimed letter is real (who knows, right?) and if it was either mailed or faxed, there could be some Muskegon-based cars spending some time in downtown Grand Rapids pretty soon.  Oy, vey...

FLASHBACK: Presidents Reagan & Obama Address America on Russians Shooting Down Passenger Airliners

FLASHBACK: Presidents Reagan & Obama Address America on Russians Shooting Down Passenger Airliners:(video at link)
September 5th, 1983, then President Ronald Reagan addressed the American public after the Soviets shot down Korean airliner KAL 007.
“My fellow Americans, I’m coming before you tonight about a Korean airline massacre. The attack by the Soviet Union against 269 innocent men, women, and children aboard an unarmed Korean passenger plane. This crime against humanity must never be forgotten.”
Compare the former president’s strong response to the current president’s line about the Malaysian airliner MH17 reportedly shot down by the Russians, believed to have killed 280 passengers and 15 crew:

“It is wonderful to be back in Delaware. Before I begin, obviously the world is watching reports of a downed passenger jet near the Russia-Ukraine border. It looks like it may be a terrible tragedy. Right now we’re working to determine whether there were American citizens on board. That is our first priority.”
President Obama then returned to his prepared statement on pitching more shovel-ready jobs to Americans. The contrast couldn’t be anymore clear."

By that time, it had been reported that 23 Americans had indeed perished in that crash.
It was then on to jokes and the chastising of Republicans for not approving of his constant efforts to circumvent Congress."
